WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S IN PANORA SEPT. 21 — For the fourth year in a row, Panora will host the Raccoon River Valley Walk to End Alzheimer’s. This year’s walk is Saturday, Sept. 21. These fundraising events are held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide and constitute the world’s largest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. There are 19 walks scheduled in Iowa this fall, with the Panora walk being the smallest town to host one. Another 30 participated in July. Young people ages 5 to 17 are eligible to attend the annual school, held on three Wednesdays each session. LPN WOMEN’S LEAGUE RAISES $7,500 FOR TORI’S ANGELS — For the seventh year in a row, the Lake Panorama National women’s league held a fundraiser to provide financial support for the Tori’s Angels Foundation. The Panora Garden Club held a fundraiser on the evening of June 19 that offered pontoon tours of Lake Panorama. Five time slots were available between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. to more than 180 participants. The tour lasted about two hours with each pontoon captain making one trip around the lake. PANORAMA WEST 2-GAL TOURNAMENT HOSTS 72 PLAYERS

The Panorama West women’s golf league hosted a two-gal best-shot tournament Tuesday, June 11. A total of 36 teams participated with 14 teams made up of local players and 22 teams from surrounding communities. The tournament theme was “Peace, Love and Golf.” Participants were encouraged to dress in clothing from the “hippie” era of the 1960s into the mid-1970s. There was a best dressed prize, with two teams tying for this honor. DOUBLE HOLE-IN-ONE MAGIC AT PANORAMA WEST

Each year, those who get a hole-in-one at the Panorama West golf course have their name added to a sign in the pro shop and receive a handmade plaque in recognition of their achievement. Since all nine holes on the course offer par three tees, there generally are several hole-in-ones recognized each season. The first hole-in-one of the 2024 season happened June 7. Randy Vyhnalek of Omaha accomplished this feat on the fifth hole, using a 9-iron to cover the 144-yard distance between the par-3 tee and green.
