At one time in my career, I was Mary Poppins at a Theme Park for a summer. Always loving the fairytale stories and delighting kids. This fun shot was taken during a photo shoot that got snowed on. Might as well play, right? And now I’ve floated into Aspen in much of the same fairytale manner. Life should be fun! ❄️

Creating in the Cracks of Life

Sometimes, life is hard. It can stretch and pull us to our core. As creators, it’s easy to lay aside our gifts and talents to “tend” to life’s priorities that continue to surface over and over again.

It’s easy to say; I’ll create when I feel good, I’ll create when life isn’t so hectic, I’ll create when the pain goes away. However, these are the cracks in our life that make our creativity authentic, unique and resonate with others. Life is messy. Sometimes our art needs to be messy too.

Writing, painting, composing and being creative is not just a means of communication or a creative outlet; it can also serve as a powerful tool for self-expression, healing, and personal growth - especially during times of crisis and stress. In fact, tapping into our creative abilities and expressing ourselves through the arts can play a pivotal role in navigating these challenging periods. By putting our thoughts and emotions into words, we can gain a deeper understanding of our own experiences, find solace, and even inspire others who may be going through similar struggles.

During times of crisis, such as the recent global pandemic, wars or personal hardships, we often experience overwhelming emotions that can be difficult to process. Bottling up these emotions can lead to increased stress, anxiety, and even physical health problems. However, when we engage in the act of writing and creating, we give ourselves permission to release these inner tensions and worries onto a tangible medium.

Through creating art, we can unload the weight of our troubles, allowing our minds to experience a sense of relief and clarity. Journaling, for instance, can provide an opportunity to express raw and unfiltered emotions. This process enables us to address our fears, worries, and frustrations, helping to alleviate stress and anxiety. In turn, this practice can promote a healthier state of mind and strengthen our ability to cope with adversity.

In addition to self-reflection, writing and creating during times of crisis can also provide us with an opportunity to explore our innermost thoughts and desires. This process of introspection can lead not only to a better understanding of ourselves but also to the discovery of previously unknown passions, strengths, and aspirations. By delving deep into our thoughts and feelings, we tap into our creativity and unlock parts of ourselves that had been dormant or overlooked.

Furthermore, creating during times of crisis can act as a channel for positive transformation and inspire others who may be going through similar difficulties. Whether it is sharing our personal experiences, offering insights, or providing practical tips for overcoming challenges, creating gives us a platform to connect with others on a deeper level. It allows us to uplift and empower others by showing them that they are not alone and that there is a way forward. It is a well known fact, that during war and pandemics, people turn to arts and entertainment for escape, solace, and much needed laughter. We all need light during dark times.

You have a unique gift as a creative to not only use your gifts to maneuver through difficult times, but to lift others up as well. Your voice matters, your art inspires, and your talents are needed to keep our eyes lifted up to the light.

Create a great day in the cracks of your life!

I believe dogs go to heaven … or rather bring a little bit of heaven to us. Jack 💔 You left us too soon buddy. We will always love you. Timothy Ramirez

Little facts about Jack: He was a Cobber Dog: bred to be an emotional support animal. We bonded ( all three of us ) and he became our loving lil’ shadow. He did his job well. One time he climbed on a man’s lap on the beach. The man was crying and must of had a loss. Jack knew his job was to comfort him. They probably sat together for an hour.
When I had voice students over he choose some that needed extra Jack Love to get over their nerves and would rest his head on their laps.
He wouldn’t leave the room if one of the grandkids was sleeping. But sit there and guard them until they woke.
I got him to be my emotional support animal after some a very traumatic year. He did his job well! He was absolutely terrified of sounds as a puppy ( the tv, a plane overhead ) I had to climb into his kennel many times to hold him. A very very sensitive soul he was! That was part of his gift to us. His sensitivity caused us to calm him and in turn we became more grounded, and we were in service many times to him. I used to joke that I was his service dog. Of course Tim and Jack became best buddies. Two kindhearted souls watching over each other and me.
The hole he leaves is quite expansive; but the love he left in the hole was an amazing gift. We are beyond grateful for our Jack. I’m sure he’s still watching over us, and those of you that were able to experience his gifts of love and support.

My song, Never Let It Happen Again is the background music in this scene 🎬 of The Intervention movie. Interesting fact… they only used the instrumental version of my song for ambiance.
