Thin Gold Line Leathers
Handcrafted leather accessories and Renaissance Rescues
Kearney Renaissance Faire Here we are, feverishly restocking our most popular belt pouch designs to make sure our shelves are full for the final faire of the season!
First sneak peak, a fresh stack of Rob Roy or Outlander style sporrans. I dug deep into Leather Mountain to find fun leathers for this batch. In addition to embossed cow and nubuck, there’s bison, elk, and moose! The pouches you see are the pouches that will be on the rack!

Opening up for the closing weekend at ! We are thrilled to be here! Come find us next to the carousel!
And the restocking (recovery) effort is now official showing progress ! Here’s a stack of my most popular pouch design (nicknamed the wing pouch for the little wing shaped detail on the front) finished and ready for closing weekend next month! Some utility leathers, some gorgeous bison pieces, and some really fun embossed leathers! These beauties who’ll be on the rack at NorCal but remember what you see is what I’ve got. We are a literal mom and pop operation, everything is handmade in house!

Following an amazing and triumphant return of the , we are so low on stock that we are going to have to skip the Folsom Renaissance Faire to make stock. You will be able to catch us at the final weekend of the 20rh season of , October 19-20, and maybe at the Kearney Park Faire in Fresno in November. We have a lot of work to do.
So: first photo is what a creative meeting looks like around here - by which I mean my wife telling me what colors I’m gonna combine for a run of belt pouches. Second photo is the stack of pouches that are underway. We got almost cleaned out of pouches at Valhalla and are gonna have to focus on them to get ready for NorCal. Final photo is because I needed a break before I found out if it’s possible to need carpal tunnel surgery a second time.

Valhalla Renaissance Faire returns after three-year hiatus (Gallery) SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – After a three-year hiatus, the Valhalla Renaissance Faire made its triumphant return for the 2024 season. Attendees stepped back in time and immersed themselves in a world of chivalry, enchantment,...
Well there’s nothing like a deadline to improve the workflow, right? Five new pouches off the workbench in one day. The kidney pouch is a maybe slightly more historically accurate design, even if my leather selections aren’t. I love this pattern because it gives me a chance to use some of the really cool soft leathers I’ve accumulated. Four of these guys will be ready for you when we open the gates at Valhalla Faire next weekend. The fifth snakeskin one was a custom job and is on the hip of a local vet tech.

How about another sneak peak Valhalla Faire ? How about a big stack of hand stitched leather Rob Roy style sporrans? Literally finished stringing them a few minutes ago and they’ll be ready for your belt when Faire opens in a few days.
Also a late rescue arrival, pewter mugs by Wilton with a logo you may or may not recognize. It’s a deer. Whatever else it may or may not be a logo for is your own issue. It’s a deer.
See you in - what - 10 days as we welcome Valhalla Faire back!

How about a sneak peak of some of our latest Renaissance Rescues! We strive to keep our beloved faire goods from ending up in bad places and bring them back to where they belong. We recently intercepted these beautiful horn mugs and drinking horns on their way to the last roundup , and they’ll be at Valhalla Faire in a couple weeks looking for new homes!
And this is what the work table looks like a three weeks before we open Valhalla Faire! Stacks and stacks of pouches (and other goodies, what do you suppose the rainbow and skull print leathers are gonna become?) waiting their turn to be assembled. Wing pouches, kidney pouches, Rob Roy sporrans, and a surprise I hope to get done in time.

Let’s keep the sneak peaks rolling Valhalla Faire! We’re sewing like mad to have plenty of belt pouches ready! Here’s the first batch, a design I call my Wing Pouch (for the little wing detail on the front. ) half a dozen done and half a dozen still on the workbench. And stacks of other pouch designs in line behind them…

Okay Valhalla Renaissance Faire, as we enter the final countdown to opening, it’s time to start sharing some of the amazing leather goodies we will be bringing! It’s sneak preview time!
First up is possibly my favorite new pattern. A bandolier of three smaller pouches with a larger bag that hangs at the hip. Looks right at gone on any pirate, steampunk, or more fantasy rpg garb. Each bag is removable. Smaller pouches close with a button stud, main bag has a strap and buckle. Have a couple that hang to the right side and I didn’t forget about you southpaws, I did a couple left handed ones too.
Forgive the photos of the left handed ones. The amazing lady who normally does my photography is out of country and left me to my own devices.

Found elsewhere. Freaking brilliant! Too good to not share

Well I’m taking a brief break from belt pouches and tricorne hats to do some fun projects! Couple of pouch bandoliers perfect for lots of different types of garb, from long ago to a certain galaxy far far away and all points in time and space in between. These pieces are ready to ship and one of a kind (because I used up my stock of some of the leather colors)

Thank you so much for a fantastic weekend to open our season! Lots of pouches and Renaissance Rescues found new homes, as did some pirate hats and that bandolier we finished right before we drove down! A lot of rosette and shield pins found new homes with new and long time fairegoers alike! We appreciate the invite back for more weekends later in the run but our mundane jobs won’t permit the additional time off at the moment…
Last sneak peak before we open
This bandolier with three small pouches and larger hip bag, we literally just finished this morning before we got on the road. Maybe in addition to a rennie you’re also a Batuu Bounder? IYKYK I guess… we used some scarred and branded bits of leather so this one is going to be one of a kind.

Here’s a sneak peak at the Renaissance Rescues we’re bringing to opening weekend at ! We have extensive contacts among the usual bandits, raiders, Vikings, and rag-and-bone men, making sure these misplaced unnecessary necessities find their way back to the faire community that loves them best. From simple Wilton and Sheffield pewter to vintage treasures like a set of Lemil Smyth goblets, we have all your faire drinkware needs! Ale, wine, and/or mead not included…
It’s five days til we open wide the gates at Renaissance Pleasure Faire!! Huzzah! And we have some new items to share that will be debuting this weekend! More huzzah! First up, some kidney shaped pouches that gave me an opportunity to really use leathers that are too soft for my other usual pouch designs. Also a larger version of the standard drawstring pouch - this time with a belt loop- joins our rack of entry level pouches, and the antler closure pouches are back with some interesting leather flaps.

So in addition to the handcrafted leather goods, we also do a little business in what we like to call ‘Renaissance Rescues’, goods from our little community that have lost their way and we rescue them and bring them back to our beloved Faire Folk. Occasionally we find something truly special out there in the wild that we are thrilled to bring back to the community.
Recently we rescued these 1980s era LeMil Smyth pewter goblets - these are from even before my time as a faire goer - but apparently the artisan was a contemporary and competitor of Fellowship Foundry, their alleged equal in quality although nowhere near as big a company. We also found these beautiful fish handled Sheffield pewter mugs. I’ve rescued a lot of British pewter and this is the first time I’ve seen this design. I’m Not sure how many of these will escape the grasp of my booth minions and make it to a faire for sale!
Okay everyone, it’s just a month til we open the gates at Renaissance Pleasure Faire! We are guest vending opening weekend and we’re sewing our fingers raw to make sure we have the best assortment of leather goods ready to go! Here’s another stack of best selling ‘wing’ pouch (that’s the in house name because of the little wing shaped details) , and a new pattern this season, a kidney shaped pouch, sure to fit in with several hundred years worth of garb options. There’s a stack of the new kidney pouches on the workbench waiting to be assembled, and with luck some other surprises!

The holidays are over and the leather shop is back - it timeshares its space with a Christmas tree - and we’re busy stocking up for what we hope is gonna be an awesome season! Starting with our usual designs - the Wing Pouch, Book Pouch, Mjolnir pouch, and a stack of Rob Roy sporrans.
Our hopeful schedule for the year (subject to change)
Southern California Faire April 6-7
Central Coast Faire July 20-21
Valhalla Faire at Tahoe August 24-25
Folsom Renaissance Faire September
Northern California Faire October
Kearney Park Fresno Faire November
So here’s hoping for a busy year!
Sometimes you need a young shop dog with enthusiasm… other times you have to bring in a more experienced shop dog who knows what he’s doing! Meet Lobo, the newest member of the canine crew! He’s a 12 year old rescue Swedish vallhund who came to us from Southern California where he was facing the possibility of ending up at a shelter. We couldn’t let that happen to such a distinguished old fellow, so he’s now one of us, adding an element of experience and dignity that Dresden the younger shop dog may or may not have been lacking …
Well it’s been a busy while hasn’t it! Real life got in the way of important leatherwork. Fresh off the workbench, Here’s a roll top backpack we just finished. It will be up for adoption at the Pacifica Elf Market next weekend.

Don't miss this event.
Next weekend! We’ll be there with… everything we have left after the amazing crowds at Folsom! This is likely to be our last big event for the year, then we’ll lock ourselves in the workshop and start prepping for a guest spot at SoCal Ren Faire in the spring!
