Although the situation in Ukraine is fluid, the scenarios outlined here offer four plausible ways in which the conflict might end. Even the rosiest of these possibilities—which we’ve dubbed the “Miracle on the Dnipro”—is fraught with danger. The United States, its transatlantic allies and partners, and indeed the entire world now likely face a difficult period of sustained contestation with Russia.

11C Infantry Soldiers specifically supervise or operate as a member of a mortar squad, section or platoon.
Mortars are suppressive indirect fire weapons. They can be employed to neutralize or destroy area or point targets, screen large areas with smoke, and provide illumination or coordinated high-explosive/illumination.

Maj. Gen. Timothy McGuire, deputy commanding general of U.S. Army Europe, visited the 40th Infantry Division's Higher Control (HICON) operations center Oct. 4, 2016, at 7th Army Training Command's Hohenfeld's Training Center, Germany.
