💾 SAVE & SHARE

Passive communication only suppresses your opinions and emotions so you can avoid conflict or confrontation with someone.

By doing this, you only increase your frustration, resentment, fears, and disappointment. Instead, try this:

📍Practice Assertiveness

Use “I” statements such as “I feel” and “I need”

📍Use Different Language

Use statements that focus on the solution rather than the problem

📍Take Small Steps

Start by practicing assertiveness in low-stakes situations and gradually apply to more challenging interactions

When we slow down, we create space for self-reflection, which is essential for personal growth and beginning to make conscious choices that align with our true desires. Here's how to start.

Interesting perspective

High-quality listening occurs when we offer someone our attention, understanding, and care. But a range of other conversation habits can easily disrupt connection and cause upset, starting with these.

.
Children frequently experience emotional outbursts, yet it’s important to recognize that adults can also have tantrums.

At times, it can be difficult for anyone to manage emotions especially when caused by frustration or anger.

If you are engaging with someone who is having a tantrum, try doing this:

📍if they’re beyond the point of reason, don’t engage
Engaging could worsen the situation. Walk off if possible.

📍use a calm tone when having the conversation
Matching their anger could worsen the situation

📍offer empathy:
“I see why that upset you so much. How can we solve the problem together?”

📍set boundaries:
“I’m happy to talk things through, but we can’t find a solution when you shout
and throw things. Let’s have a conversation when you feel calmer.”

🤔 What are some other tantrums you have seen from adults? How did you handle it?
