It’s always fun to see what you can turn an old railroad spike into. This was my first split cross forged out of a single railroad spike.
A forged rose and magnetic base. The stem is the spring from my garage door that broke, leaves are 1/2” square bar from , and the flower sheet metal pieces are from . Might try to make 1 or 2 more in between my other orders for Valentine’s Day. If you’re interested in one, shoot me a DM.
Forged rose and magnetic base. The stem is the spring from my garage door that broke, leaves are 1/2” square bar from Online Metals and the flower sheet metal pieces are from Blacksmiths Depot. Might try to make a couple in between my other orders before Valentine’s Day, if you’re interested in one, drop me a DM.
A Christmas present for my brother in law. Forged Indiana railroad spikes mounted to a piece of bourbon barrel wood from .
Always fun to see my knives out being used and enjoyed! A K tip chefs knife I made my mom a few years ago for Christmas. 440c stainless steel, stabilized blood wood handle, brass and black g10 liners, and some decorative firework on the spine.
Love seeing the glow on Lisa Jane’s face as she checks out her new blade! So excited to see this knife put to work this hunting season. check out the video and give her YouTube channel some love.

I might be in Paris, but I got a new (to me) tool delivered to the garage today! So looking forward to finally having a kiln! Thanks for helping me out and hooking me up!
I can’t wait to get back in the shop to start making knives again! Hoping to buy some new tools in the next month or two to ever increase the speed and quality of my bladesmithing. Here’s a look at the I made for myself for the Dua Lipa . Ball bearing canister Damascus. Im digging the shape and I’m pretty happy with the heat treat…Sorry for the nasty hand pics.
Came home from tour and had 24 hrs to make a secret Santa present for my mom. She’s already received two knives so I went for something different.
A rail road spike rose- The leaves are made from leftover canister Damascus, the flower is sheet metal, and the stem is an old rail road spike.
I’m super happy with how it came out and I learned a ton. Can’t wait to make some more that will hopefully be for sale!
Finished this knife quite awhile back as it was used to develop my process for working with and finishing the stabilized bourbon barrel wood that will be used for a larger project. I finally got around to making the sheath and sharpening it just in time so it could travel to its forever home in California.
The American Tacoma XL: 1095 steel, stabilized Heavens Hill bourbon barrel wood, red, white, and blue g10 + brass liners, decorative file work with black dyed epoxy with brass powder sprinkled in. 2 brass pins, and 9mm casings for a decorative pin. A custom made Legend leather sheath equipped with an awesome give it protection and retention.
Im really happy with how this one came out. Fortunately I now have the right tool to make sure the bullet casing decorative pin comes out cleaner next time. Always learning and striving for perfection to create the best possible blade for you.
🔪
Super excited to have made my first canister Damascus blade! The canister was filled with cable and 1085+2% nickel powdered steel and was forge welded and drawn out with a hand hammer (but I can’t wait to get a press).
Im looking forward to wearing and testing this guy out on the road this next month as I head out on a Christmas tour. No matter how busy I get, I try to design a new knife that forces me to try a new skill in the making process every new tour that comes my way. This not only gives me a GREAT tool that I constantly use, but it allows me to test and refine new ideas.
All and all I learned a ton, got a good workout, and came out with a pretty sweet knife with a cool pattern. Hopefully I’ll be able to start making more and have them available for you to buy.
I love getting photos like this from legend blade owners giving their knife a workout this hunting season! I aim to not only create something beautiful, but something functional that will last forever.
I can’t wait to wait to get back in my shop this week and push some projects forward!
🔪
I have been grinding daily on a large custom order, trying to figure some stuff out and create the best possible knives I can for this group of guys. It’s been frustrating since I didn’t think they would take this long…being a perfectionist is a true curse.
I could feel my excitement to get in the garage and work each morning slowly subsiding and being replaced with doubt, frustration, and anger.
It had been far to long since i worked on anything else just for fun. So the last couple days I decided it was time to try my making my first Damascus. So After work hours, i got to work and here is the result!
Starting From 5 pieces of 1084/15n20, I forged welded them (my first ever forge weld, no flux) and drew them out by hand, cleaned and cut them in to 4 pieces. I stacked and forge welded them together (no flux again). I got too ambitious and tried to cut in a ladder pattern but screwed it up. After drawing the 20 layer billet out, I had to go back with my small wheel attachment and grind out the cold shuts i created and flatten it. That didn’t leave me with enough steel for a knife so I cut the thin billet in half and will get this engraved and turn it into a luggage tag. I took the other half and split it and forge welded it to a scrap piece of 1095 to make a little Damascus San mai neck knife/two finger knife for myself.
If you are feeling burned out, take a break from your task and create something new and for fun. Challenge yourself. The energy, confidence, and joy it has given me to slay this custom order I’m working on is incredible.
Huge thanks to for the little pointers he gave me about making Damascus at his hammer in. I’m excited to get another billet going in the future so i can actually make a knife.
Having “fun” is SO important to living your best life! I was reminded again about this after spending the day hanging out at hammer in yesterday, one of the most fun things I’ve done in a LONG time! From learning/watching Bob make a Damascus billet, to trying out the plethora of hammers on-site (which are absolutely amazing tools) to forge my own knife while getting tips and pointers from the other talented bladesmiths, to enjoying the delicious food and drinks and just getting to hang out with people who are as obsessed with knives as I am. It was amazing!
I left tired with a big smile on my face and couldn’t sleep when I got home because I was so filled up. This morning I woke up just as energized, so I fired up the forge to finish straightening the knife I forged out yesterday (pics to come), and decided to finish this railroad spike slingshot project I started but never finished because it kept getting pushed to the back burner. I’ll definitely refine my process for the next one, but I’m looking forward to setting up some targets around my yard to see how she shoots!
Are you burning out? Looking for an energy boost? Go find a way to have fun and make it priority in your life! I’m more pumped than ever to keep learning, creating and to continue working on this big batch of custom knives that Are currently on my work bench. Thanks Bob for organizing and hosting such a fun day! Already looking forward to the next one!
Excited to get this prototype tacoma XL into Choose Legends hands and out into the field (in front of the camera) for some testing. Also wanted to mention two products that will be available on our website VERY soon! I use Axe Wax on every blade and sheath I make as well as its killer on your wood cutting boards! ULTICLIP is the standard clip that comes on a Legend Blades sheath as it provides unparalleled retention and is as high quality and durable as they come.
This blade was made using 1095 high carbon steel, with Kentucky bourbon barrel wood that I stabilized and hit with a torch to bring back the char, brass pins, orange g10 liners, and some decorative file work on the spine.
Super excited to finish up this beautiful custom steak knife for the best mama in the world! It’s so fun to be able to finally make her something she can use and enjoy for years to come! Happy Mother’s Day mom!!
The steak knife is made with 154cm stainless steel with blood wood that I stabilized accompanied by a brass liner, pins, and decorative file work on the spine that is filled with black epoxy. Housing the knife is a leather sheath with my first attempt at a hand stamped pattern. A classy, elegant, timeless design with a razor sharp edge that slices through a steak with no effort (she tested it on a juicy 🥩 tonight). Also whipped her up a delicious batch of fleur de sel salted carmel ice cream and a fleur de sel carmel sauce, soo good!
Shoot me a DM if you’re interested in a custom steak knife, it’d make a great Father’s Day gift!

Just wrapped up a leather sheath for one of our railroad spike knives. Excited to get this back in the hands of the owner so she can get back to being a knife instead of an Instagram model.
So excited to finally share these finished San mai Tacoma knives with you! One of these was a birthday present for the old man, and the other was a special thank you knife for a friend.
These knives are made from an amazing San mai steel billet made by the incredible Gambler Custom. These have a 1095 core with 410 stainless steel forge welded on either side. The handles scales are alternating layers of g10 (composite material) and rubber, so when these handles get wet they actually get gripper. Super helpful when your hands are covered in animal blood while field dressing. The pins are corby bolts, which have a male and female components so there is a true mechanical connection between the scales and the tang. Between the scales and tang there is a colored piece of g10 to provide extra strength and a pop of color. To fill in all the voids and provide a permanent bond, i used blade bond extreme epoxy which is an aerospace grade adhesive. Once the blade was hand sanded and finished, I etched it in ferric chloride and then let it soak in an instant coffee bath.
These knives are beautiful, tough, and razor freaking sharp! Can’t wait to see these guys in action!
Thanks to the Knife Talk - podcast guys for the knowledge they drop every week. Go check out and follow Maumasi Fire Arts Feder Knivesand at Chop Knives to see some truly incredible work!

The first batch of railroad spike knives are finished! If you’re interested in getting one, shoot me a dm and I’ll send you pics of the knives that are still available.
Each knife is unique and hand forged out of a recycled high carbon railroad spike. High carbon RR spikes still don’t qualify as true knife making steel cause it only has about 50% of the carbon carbides that good high carbon knife making steel does. To get the hardest knife possible I use a “super quench” solution which helps achieve a higher Rockwell rating than just a cold water quench.
These knives come sharpened and also include free lifetime sharpening, you just have to get the knife to and from me. 🔪
This is an early video of one of the first railroad spike knives legend blades made with a twisted handle. After the twist we round the edges to make it more comfortable in the hand.
Got a batch of rail road spike knives being finished today. Want to come see one and pick one out? Leave a comment or send me a message.
The price on these knives are $35 and come with free lifetime sharpening.
Railroad train spikes aren’t great knife making material due to the low amount of carbon in the steel, BUT that doesn’t mean they won’t get sharp and function as a tool for you. Just consider them the harbor freight of forged knives.
I have a batch of railroad spike knives about to be finished up. If you want to get your hands on one to play around with or to use as a decoration/talking piece, shoot me a message. Once finished each Person who sends a message will get first choice before I make them available to everyone.

What better way to spend this lovely Friday night than pounding out my first couple railroad spike knives!
Big things coming! So excited to be working on a special bourbon inspired hunting knife. Just got this barrel wood that is currently drying and will be stabilized and used for the handle.
Came home from seeing friends and dropping off some custom blades in Nashville, and found this in the mail.
I’m so excited to start this journey, build new friendships, learn a ton, and make some amazing knives! I’ve got some big goals for this decade, but up first is the road to become a journeyman bladesmith.
My latest batch of knives called “the fighter”. Can’t wait to get these into the hands of their new owners!
Made out of 1095 steel, the pins in the handle are the lowest notes from an upright piano, the handles are my first multi piece handles (12 pieces) using wenge, paduk, PurpleHeart, and canary wood (thanks ) with white and black g10 spacers. 🔪
Ever spilled a brand new bottle of leather pro dye? I have... it’s not fun... and it will end up being an expensive mistake.
Working on the sheath design for these three getting finished this week while the garage warms up.
