An ode to my tiny Valentine! She's 13 now, which is so wild to comprehend that I actually burst into tears when a little girl happily waved to me from her preschool line this morning, and it struck me how BIG my little girl has become 🫠😭 I designed this room for her 10 years ago, while I was pregnant with her brother. It marks her transition from crib to big girl bed, and a very happy time in my life. I was exhausted beyond belief but soaking up all the amazing moments with my kids. These walls were covered in footprints (ahem, gymnastics), school art, crayon, and even sharpie at some point...until she looked at me one day many years later and said "Mom, I'm just not a pink person...I really love neutrals, with a little sage green and lots of plants mixed in" 🪴🤍 So began another phase of this bedroom. Rooms evolve with their occupants, but one thing remains the same...it's the people in the rooms that make them come alive and have meaning. Rooms are just backgrounds for making memories, and I'm so grateful I get to help create those backdrops for the families I work with. ALL 👏🏼 OF 👏🏼 THIS👏🏼 sprouted up from a scraggly, sad backyard with nothing but concrete and a dilapidated single car garage! ADUs (Accessory Dwelling Units) are a great way to create extra living space on property you already own. Here we created a 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath home with a full kitchen, living + dining area, laundry room, multipurpose loft, and storage attic - 800 sqft of additional living space! Introducing the #peachADU! New builds aren't really a thing in Alameda. Our island is packed with beautiful historic homes, and there's little space for new construction *unless* you're building an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) in the backyard! I partnered with my client and the architect from the initial planning phase through construction, and I couldn't be more proud of the finished product: ~800sqft, 15' cathedral ceilings, 2 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, full kitchen, living + dining space, laundry room, multipurpose loft, and a large hidden storage area in the attic.
