About me:
Hi! If youāre new here, my name is Dr. Drew and Iām physical therapist specializing in dizziness and neck pain.
Five years ago, I had a massive flare up of dizziness that made my life pretty rough. It was scary and I couldnāt get clear answers on what was causing it until I found a PT who was able to accurately diagnose me and help me get my life back.
Now, my goal is to give people going through this what I would have wanted from the start: Clear answers, a clear plan, daily guidance, and emotional support.
Thank you all ššš
Itās been an amazing year.
Iāll still be around posting, but the schedule will be closed until 2024
[neck pain, cervicogenic dizziness, migraines, vestibular dizziness, pppd, migraine, visual vertigo, visual dependence, anxiety]
š Helping people gives my life purpose - but it takes timeā¦
When I meet people, they are often dealing with scary and challenging things. They give me their trust to help guide them āout of the dark woodsā and back to āfeeling normalā..
I take the responsibility seriously (I know how hard dealing with this can be). I wouldnāt be able to look myself in the mirror if I didnāt give my best for each person.
That takes timeā¦ I wish I could talk with everyone. I wish I could help everyone who needed it, right now, right away.
At some point though, it would take away from how much I have to give the people Iām already working with.
For this reason Iām going to close my schedule for a bit. Hopefully iāll open it back up in early August! If this post is pinned to the top, the schedule is closed for a bit.
BUTā¦ Please reach out and I can add you to my email list. Iāll make sure to email you when I open it back up so we can find a time to talk.
Thank you all for your trust, for your willingness to let me share information, and my story. Iāll keep doing my best to add value here even when the schedule is closed.
Best,
Dr. Drew
āWhy?ā Can be a tough questionā¦ š¤
I ask people I work with a ton of questions about the future they want. What they want to be doing, with who, any specific activities or trips.
BUTā¦ the harder question is the next one. Why is that important to you
Not an easy thing to answer. Trips like this past week help me remember my why.
Iām blessed to have the best family, and amazing friends. As well as a partner to share it and enjoy it all with.
Being able to spend time with them, to have fun, to support them. Thatās my why. Always has been.
I can lose sight of those things. I think we all can. Hereās to the people who give you your why.
This year has been amazing š„³ Itās crazy to see a vision become a realityā¦
The vision was pretty simple - Give people what I would have wanted when I was going through this.
Executing on that visionā¦ not so simple š
Dealing with pain and dizziness is scary. Itās hard. Itās not fun and it can make you feel like āsomeone elseā. It can feel like being lost in the woods at dark, wandering around not sure what to do.
Being able to connect with and go on that journey with so many awesome people has given purpose to my life that I truly underestimated the impact of. In a selfish way that has been my gift.
Seeing people be able to drive, go to the store, play with their kids, travel, get back in the gymā¦For the first time in months or years. Itās amazing.
But more importantly, knowing how much these things mean to us. To our happiness, to our sense of self.
To be the parent, the friend, the spouse, the co worker, the person we want to be.
Thatās what I wanted when I was going through this. Being able to help others on their journey is truly special.
Treating it can be complicated. It takes time, patience, and a willingness to spend the time required to figure out what has probably been misdiagnosed/undiagnosed for a long time.
In order to do that at the standard I expect of myself, I need to close my calendar to new patient calls for now.. If you have a consultation call booked already, no worries, we are good to go and I will be there!
Iāll open back up the schedule the first week of January. Thank you all for supporting the vision and the mission. For having trust in me to share this information and my story.
Much love to all my fellow Alignites,
Dr. Drew
š Hello! The page has grown quite a bit, and in the hope of clarifying some of the basicsā¦
Iām Dr. Drew, a Physical Therapist and business owner.
šAt this point in my career, I only treat a few thingsā¦
Mainly, Cervicogenic Dizziness (along with the neck pain, cervicogenic headaches, and PPPD it so often causes).
Why? Thereās a few reasons but the biggest is I truly feel a responsibility for helping people going through it.
šFive years ago, I had a massive flare up in dizziness that made life pretty rough. It was scary, and I couldnāt get clear answers on what was causing it.
Going through this caused a ton of fear, anxiety, and in general for 18 months it really sucked.
I finally found a PT who accurately diagnosed it as Cervicogenic Dizziness and visual dependence (Basically PPPD). She put together a plan, helped guide me through it, andā¦
I āgot my life backā. It sounds dramatic, but if you've been there, you know what I mean. Being dizzy can make you feel like someone completely different.
šNow, my goal is to give people going through this what I would have wanted. Clear answers, a clear plan, daily guidance, and honestly, emotional support.
The people who find me are usually frustrated by being blown off by every medical provider theyāve talked to, had all the tests and have been told āeverythings normalā. Theyāre trying to get back to their old livesā¦
Exercising, driving, playing with their kids, working, traveling with their spouse, being able to cook and take care of themselvesā¦ Without feeling terrible.
šIf that sounds like you, a great next step would be checking out the free webinar I made called āRoot Causeā.
In it I talk in much more depth about how your neck can cause dizziness, PPPD, anxiety, and go through a framework of how you get your life back.
If you made it here, thanks for checking out the page. I truly wish you the best in your journey, and hope you can start to consider me to be a trusted guide along the way š
How does your neck help you feel balanced?
This week we will go through the basics of how our cervical proprioception fits into our balance systems.
Make sure you download the guide in my bio to learn more tips!
Why is my neck causing pain and dizziness?
Itās a great question!
Often it comes down to movement impairment syndromesā¦
Thatās a fancy way of saying the normal function of your neck has been alertedšØ-often due to changes in surrounding muscles and joints.
When movement is not happening as your brain expects it to, the mismatch of information is thought to lead to cervicogenic dizziness.
šš¼Download my free cervicogenic dizziness training to learn more!
Holding neutral throughout a movement is TOUGHā¦ Holding it while doing the movement with a lot of weight is REALLY tough.
We all underestimate (me included lol) our ability to maintain good form when we add weight.
We assume, yea this weight will be harder but it will be largely the same.
Reality is increased load/weight will quickly ruin the quality of the motion unless you have the awareness, strength, mobility, etc to prevent it.
Download my free cervicogenic dizziness training- link in bio!
Find neutral, hold it while you move, load the movement. Thatās the key to getting stronger with pain or dizziness
Notice what is firstā¦ You have to be able to find a neutral spine position.
Made it home in one piece ā
Such an awesome trip. 240 miles and 7 nights down the Grand Canyon.
Best part was sharing it with family and meeting new friends along the way.
Stoked to get back at it and sorry if I was slow to get back to you over the past week!! (Meant to make it more clear Iād be gone)
When is the last time you had a āgood weekā?
Dealing with long term pain and dizziness can make it hard to remember a time when you felt good for that long.
Itās important to keep track of and celebrate those small steps on the journey to recovery. Celebrating and acknowledging progress makes the process more fun butā¦
It also helps to look back on what your wrote down when you are in a ādown weekā, when it seems all your work has been pointless.
If you need someone to talk to during those weeks, I am always here for that š
Can your Atlas get stuck? What would you do to fix it?
I wanted to sit down and create a longer format video for this often controversial and important topic.
Hearing that one of your vertebrates is āshiftedā or āstuckā can cause a lot of fear. It creates this visual of a rogue bone out of place within your body causing all sorts of issues.
Can this happen? What does the literature say about it? How would you fix it?
Sit down, grab some popcorn and enjoy my Mini TedTalk on the subject.

Have you ever closed your eyes and felt dizzy? Like you are swaying or floatingā¦ š
You are not alone, itās hard for a lot of people to close their eyes, or to go into busy stores/busy places.
Being able to bring awareness to our other balance systems can really help you deal with this.
One basic example is bringing awareness to how your feet feel on the ground, this technique is called āgroundingā.
Itās also something thatās done in every yoga class in its own way!
Annie was kind enough to set aside some time to talk about the power of Co**se Pose/Shavasana.
I wanted to ask her why being mindful of our bodies is so important in yoga and explain how it could help you heal š
Tune in at 1PM Central Time on this Wednesday the 16th!
Let me know in the comments if youāve ever been dizzy with your eyes closed š
Getting answers is the hardest partā¦ Especially for headaches/migraines and dizziness.
With so many different possible causes, understanding whatās going on is crucial to fixing it.
This is a chance to get some!! š
I am stoked to have Dr. Nidhi join us for an IG live to talk about Vestibular Migraines.
She specializes in helping people with vestibular disorders and will be a great resource to bounce some questions and ideas off.
This Wednesday the 9th at 4pm Pacific Time, we will be talking about Vestibular Migraines and Cervicogenic Headaches/Dizziness to try and provide some clarity in the muddy water of headaches and dizziness.
What questions do you have? Comment below and I'll make sure to ask her!
