2020 vs 1970 Porsche 911 Rear Michelin Tyre. 50 Years of Evolution.
The rear tyre of the Porsche 911 have evolved significantly over the years to accommodate the increasing power and performance of the car. In the early models, rear tyres were relatively narrow, typically around 165 mm wide. Porsche’s early 1964–1967 911 fitted 165 VR 15 tyres.
Today, the rear tyres of the Porsche 911 are much wider, typically around 305 mm wide for the Carrera models and even wider for high-performance variants like the GT3 and Turbo models.

Difference between classic Porsche 911 LWB and SWB (Long wheelbase vs short wheelbase)
In 1969 the Porsche 911 and 912 the wheelbase was lengthened from 2211mm (SWB) to 2268mm (LWB) increasing it by 57mm. The engine and rear suspension stayed in the same position but the suspension trailing arms were lengthened. The lengthened wheelbase improved handling and decreased oversteer.
It’s easier to find parts for LWB models as SWBs are rarer and if restored worth more. Most people probably wouldn’t feel a different driving experience. The ‘67 SWBs originate form the old 356 and are a bit more original and primal with fewer amenities and luxuries. But in the end, it’s about driving.

1956 Cobra team Grand Prix transport truck Fiat Series 306/2 built by Carrozzeria Bartoletti
It is believed that there were six transportation trucks to support the Shelby Cobra team. The transporter seen in the pictures is a 1956 Fiat Series 306/2 Grand Prix Transporter. Except for Cobras, it also transported Maseratis, Scarabs, Carroll Shelby’s Cobra Daytona coupes, Lotuses, GT40s and more across its wild motorsport career.
It was commissioned by Maserati to haul Formula One cars and gear around Europe during the ’57 and ’58 seasons and was the machine that carried the Maserati 250F, which Juan Manuel Fangio drove to win the ’57 title. Lance Reventlow clearly enjoyed its presence in the Formula One paddock and bought it to serve as Scarab’s Grand Prix transporter for ’60 and ’61.
Its career continued in 1962 when Carroll Shelby bought it to haul his Shelby American team of Cobra Daytona coupes around Europe for the Sports Car World Championship. From there, it worked for Lotus, David Piper and Alan Mann.
In 1970 it was featured alongside Steve McQueen in Le Mans as the team transporter for Ferrari, Renault/Mirage, and Porsche.
After decades of hard use, it needed an overhaul, and the current owner completely restored it to its former glory. Eight thousand man-hours, and two years later, it was returned to its authentic condition.
The truck was recently auctioned off by RM Sothebys in 2012 for almost $1M USD.
Porsche 917 Kurzheck vs Longtail. (“Kurz” in German for short)
The Texaco Doodlebug (also called the Diamond T Doodlebug) was a streamlined, futuristic American tanker truck of the 1930s.
The vehicles were streamlined and highly aerodynamic. The first model was publicly displayed in January 1933. The Texaco Doodlebug featured a rear-mounted Hercules L-head six-cylinder engine. A microphone in the engine compartment connected to a speaker in the driver’s position allowed the driver to hear the engine, so he would know when to shift.
The Doodlebugs were part of an overall project by Texaco to modernize its brand look and its tanker fleet. This project produced the Texaco star-T logo still used today. Not many Doodlebugs were produced and some sources say six but the actual number may be lost to history.
Early in the 1930s, a large proportion of the American population was using coal to heat their homes. This was a very dirty and greasy product to handle and use. The oil industry was keen to encourage American consumers to change over to oil as the primary home heating fuel. Texaco decided to produce a visually desirable, clean tank truck to deliver oil and gasoline.

Cassette Tape Adapter - Who remembers these?
With this adapter you could play music from your MP3 player on your classic car cassette stereo.
While compact cassettes hold two connected spools of magnetic tape for audio, car cassette adapters contain magnetic inductors that fool tape decks into thinking they are cassettes.
When the audio jack is connected to an audio source, the signal is sent to the inductor inside the cassette tape adapter. The inductor, which functions much like a recording head, generates a magnetic field that corresponds to the signal from the audio device.
Tape adapters include a series of gears and some type of wheel component to simulate a continuously running tape.
Unfortunately the audio quality was only mediocre at best.

The Woman that invented Fashion: Coco Chanel on an Autoped Scooter in Paris
Chanel’s new powered two-wheeler made it easier for walking and riding on a completely new mode of transportation.
Gabrielle Bonheur “Coco” Chanel was a French fashion designer and businesswoman. As the founder of the Chanel brand, she popularised a sporty, casual chic feminine standard of style. Chanel focused on women’s ready-to-wear clothes, luxury goods and accessories. Coco Chanel catered to women’s taste for elegance of simple design that replaced the opulent, over-designed, and constrictive clothes and accessories of 19th-century fashion.
The Autoped Scooter was an early motor scooter manufactured by the Autoped Company of Long Island City, New York from 1915 - 1922. The Autoped went out of production in the USA in 1921, but was manufactured by Krupp in Germany from 1919 to 1922.
The engine was an air-cooled, 4-stroke, 155 cc engine over the front wheel. The bike came even with a toolbox. Developed during wartime and gasoline rationing, it was quite efficient but was not widely distributed.

This Mexican mechanic saved the Ferrari 375 at the 1954 La Carrera Panamericana which was one of the most demanding endurance races in history.
Umberto Maglioli was leading the fourth stage of the race in his Ferrari 375 before his engine started to leak oil through the crankcase. He had to stop in the middle of nowhere without any technical support for his car. His chances of finishing the race were near-zero.
Maglioli was lucky enough to stop beside a small workshop called “El Milagro” where he met Mexican mechanic Renato Martinez. Renato confirmed the oil leak and was able to provide Maglioli with a temporary solution:
He grabbed a bucket and a big bar of soap while he gave Maglioli three bottles of Coke and said “While you drink your Coke I will repair your car.”
Martinez started to rub the bar of soap onto the crankcase. The soap melted and created a paste that sealed the leak hole. Soap cuts through the oil film and adheres to the metal in the crankcase.
Amazed by Martinez ingenuity Maglioli pulls out a small Rolleiflex camera to capture the moment and to immortalise Renato and his “El Milagro” garage. Umberto Maglioli finished the race in the first place.
After the race, Martinez was mailed the photograph Maglioli had taken and it read “Renato, The Mexican Miracle that helped Ferrari.” signed by a man named Enzo Ferrari.

In March 1991, a BMW super-sports car shone out from the glitz and glamour of the Geneva Motor Show to steal the headlines in spectacular style. The Nazca M12 was the debut creation of Fabrizio Giugiaro, son of Italdesign founder and celebrated designer Giorgetto Giugiaro. Fabrizio was a paltry 26 years old when he conjured up the breathtaking form of this stunning prototype.
There was a clue to the car’s means of propulsion in its “M12” nameplate. Lurking below the Nazca’s rakish carbon-fiber finery was the 300 hp five-liter 12-cylinder engine from BMW’s 750i and 850i production cars. The company’s legendary V12 was mounted midships in a longitudinal configuration and had the tools to catapult this featherweight bullet car (it tipped the scales at just 1.1 tonnes) over the world’s roads and race tracks at awesome speed.
Even without turning a wheel, the BMW Nazca M12 made quite a statement. The smooth-surfaced bodywork inspired by Formula 1 and Group C machines ensured the 4.37-meter long, 1.99-meter wide speed merchant was slippery-fast. Standing just 1.10 m off the ground, its Cd of 0.26 was game-changing stuff at the time. Jaw-dropping features abounded, not least the gullwing side windows rising from conventionally hinged doors. And a glass roof structure gave the supercar’s driver and his or her passenger an unhindered, panoramic view.

Commendatore 112i by
This is the 90's Unicorn supercar you never heard of: Isdera Commendatore 112i.
The 112i was a concept car designed and developed by the German low-volume automobile manufacturer Isdera. Introduced at the 1993 Frankfurt Motor Show, the 112i had a compact and sleek aerodynamic bodywork and was to be a successor to the Imperator 108i, but the lack of financial reserves led the company into bankruptcy, and only one prototype was completed.
The car was named in honor of Enzo Ferrari because he was awarded the title Commendatore. Commendatore means Knight Commander in the Italian language.
The engine was a 6.0L Mercedes-Benz M120 V12 unit which was first used in the Mercedes-Benz C112 and later also in the Mercedes-Benz SL600 AMG and the Pagani Zonda S. The 112i was claimed to accelerate to 100 kph (62 mph) in 4.7 seconds and has a top speed of 341 kph (212 mph).
Isdera made the body from glass fiber and mounted it on a web-like tubular chassis to keep the weight down. For suspension, they turned to the Porsche 928, modifying the standard setup by making it a speed-sensitive system that dropped the car by three inches to reduce drag. As for the headlamps, a pair of Porsche 968 lights were used, while the single wiper that cleared the rain from the massive aircraft-stye windscreen came from a Japanese bullet train.
The Commendatore's owner allowed it to be featured in 1997's Need for Speed II PlayStation game. Some time afterward, he offered it for sale on eBay with an asking price of €1.5M, but it failed to sell. It was then bought back by the regrouped Isdera company in late 2016. In February 2021, it was then sold once more at for € 1.1M.

There are many concept cars by coachbuilder Bertone, but the Navajo is definitely one that is on the extreme side and shows a lot of Sci-Fi design. The Navajo was based on the 33 Stradale, but this concept car features aggressive lines and sharp edges, and there were no beautiful, elegant curves to be seen. The Navajo looks oddly similar to the Citroen BX, which is no coincidence. Gandini also made the design of the Citroën BX in the same year.
1976 Alfa Romeo partnered with Bertone to produce this outstanding concept. The Navajo was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show the same year and featured a 2.0L V8 boasting 230HP.
The Navajo came equipped with many cool features, including pop-up headlights mounted on the side of the front bumper. The cabin was as futuristic as the exterior, with a sci-fi-inspired instrument cluster and red trim everywhere.
The Navajo was a one-off build by Bertone, and the body was entirely built with fiberglass, which allowed it to keep its total weight at only 870 kilos.
