We had some serious flying today! National Model Aviation Day was a success!
Maurice and his Stenson!
Success!
Showtime, folks! Nice weather, no wind, let's take to the skies! Double feature flying high today. Those HV servos were a real test, but now they're bringing the magic with some serious agility. Post-rebuild and upgrade, she's flying like a charm, ready for action! But honestly, maiden flights always make me a little anxious. Wheels up!
Geeking out a bit here! Went to take the trash out and witnessed a launch.... from Cali! Pics in the comments!
And now, some chase cam footage and 3 musical numbers related to the flight! Had a lot of fun! Too hot out here though!
Vern and Mustang Sally After the long awaited! I get to fly!! Me and Vern meetup and took to the sky with his new and moded P51! He put a DJI air unit in it for Vid and was testing...
I am thrilled to be on my fourth flight with the remarkable Tuskegee Airmen Miss Kentucky (Bunnie) P-51 Mustang. This iconic aircraft has a storied history and it's an honor to be piloting it today. The feeling of soaring through the skies is so therapeutic, providing a sense of calmness that's hard to match.
Soon I'll share some cockpit in flight video!
Gotta love this landing!
Well, we finally got the P-51 Mustang maiden completed! Lots of extra effort to get rhebvideo camera in the cockpit to work with this setup but the maiden flight (x3) was a success! Nice and scale! A little tweaking and it will be just right!
Well, this Spitfire story ain't exactly a soaring success. Bought the used plane, put in plenty of dough, but it never quite took flight (sigh). Last flight's engine cutout was the final blow. Gave it a grand Viking sendoff, but now what? Back to the drawing board? Another Spitfire? Bigger, better, faster, stronger? Or maybe I should try my hand at an AXIS aircraft. Stay tuned, folks, this story's just getting started!
The Holloman Airshow was awesome! Took as many good pics as I could with 13 year old gear! The Thunderbirds are a real treat! Looking forward to the next one!
Done editing tonight, but I wanted to share this one. Their dad was on point today taking care of them and making sure they had fun. Snapped this one in the moment. Either he's learning a new maneuver or his sister is telling him why he got it wrong! But a cute memory nonetheless!
Video #2
Video from the two test flights of the NMSU scratch build!
Congratulations to the NMSU team on their airplane build! They worked very hard to design and build this aircraft. And, after extensive work, placed 48th out of a 107 entries nationwide! Well done! Glad to be of assistance! Both flight videos will be posted next!
Got invited to a local middle school for a career day. Not for my actual job... but to talk about RC planes and helis!
Control checks and walk-around...
Assembled! Powered up and minus the canopy, it's ready to go! Old scheme out, new scheme in! High voltage servos are lightning quick! The matte tiger stripes are a fun addition.
One canopy from a test flight!
Power!
The P-51 is assembled and looking good! The final wiring and load tests/taxi will be this weekend. Flight MAYBE Mon or Tues!
Upgrades all around! Spitfire needed a new spinner. So aluminum it is! loading!
My favorite aeronautical inspirations, the Tuskegee Airmen, made me jump into this one. Programming almost done. Gotta fix a few "quality" issues for crisp response but I'll be absolutely right before I fly it! Video soon!
Test run! Big thanks to my coworker D. Ross for the work on printing these parts!
Got a custom 3D Printed interface mount with fan shroud for the build! Now the full install can begin!
Sorry... but the pilot had to go (for now) might bring him back later.
It's time!
