HOLIDAY ELECTRICITY SAVINGS TIPS:

Tip Five: Heat it up by turning it down

While it may seem counter-intuitive to turn down the heat in winter, it’s good for holiday energy savings.

Adjusting your thermostat 10 to 15 degrees down for eight hours per day while you’re out and about or sleeping under your warmest blankets can save you 10 percent.

Also, consider that having family and friends over for dinners and parties means the body heat emanating from your guests will automatically increase the temperature in your home.

That small adjustment to the heat will most likely be a welcomed one.

HOLIDAY ELECTRICITY SAVINGS TIP

Savings Tip Four: Use small kitchen appliances

Making hot chocolate, need to melt mints or make quick work of a stiff stick of butter?

Instead of firing up the stove, choose your microwave for smaller kitchen tasks. Your larger appliances will use more watts than the smaller ones.

In the mornings, fire up your toaster or toaster oven to brown your bagels, or crisp your waffles. Make use of your ice chests and coolers to chill canned, bottled and boxed beverages and keep your refrigerator from overworking due to overcrowding.

During the holidays, you’re probably spending a bit more time in the kitchen so using these little shortcuts can help you see significant holiday energy savings.

How many of you utilized smaller appliances during Thanksgiving as well?

Day Three: Comforting Candles

When you’re setting a scene, candles are a fun way to add color, texture, and mood to a room.

Of course, you need to be smart, and having an open flame near your faux-snow batting may not be the best idea.

Consider adding a number of battery-powered candles to your holiday decor. There are many styles to choose from, some even feature a partially-melted look! These will give you a safe, energy-efficient glow.

HOLIDAY ELECTRONIC SAVINGS TIPS!

Tip Two: Limit overhead light use

You may hear this in your mother’s voice, and as much as it may hurt to admit, she was right. You’ve designed a masterpiece of a winter wonderland, and if you’ve decked your halls and walls with lights, let those shine on your path.

How many of you are guilty of leaving on the overhead lights while also having all the decorations lit up?

HOLIDAY ELECTRICITY SAVINGS TIPS!

Tip One:

LED light up your life – LED (light-emitting diode) lights have grown in popularity over the past decade. They use up to 80 percent less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs and present a bright glow.

Many popular styles of lights, from mini-bulbs to icicle and twinkling varieties, have LED equivalents. While LED lights cost more to purchase, the energy savings will pay for themselves over the course of the season, even if you celebrate with Griswold-esque enthusiasm. For families with larger homes, LEDS are an especially great way to achieve holiday electricity savings.

GREEN CLEANING

Thanksgiving is over and Christmas is just a few short weeks away. That means the majority of us are in cleaning mode (whether we like it or not) preparing for family and friends to join us in celebration. However, with all the cleaning we can get overexposed to harsh chemicals when there are truly plenty of other options out there without breaking the bank.

So what are the alternative options?

One of the least expensive ways that you can reduce toxins and chemicals in your home is to switch to plant, essential oil, or oil-based cleaners.

Some awesome companies include Method, Seventh Generation and Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day all which clean and disinfect without the toxic chemicals floating in the area. These products leave no smell, no harsh chlorine filled chemicals in the air, and leave you with a clean environment that doesn't affect your health!

& Don't forget to turn off those lights after you finish cleaning one room and move to the next!

When is the best time to purchase new appliances?

As homeowners, we are all aware that the time will come when we have to replace our appliances, but the question generally comes down to when is the right time to do so.

Imagine how different things would be without a washing machine to do your laundry in?

Imagine how your summers would look with no air conditioning or the luxury of showering with hot water?

Major appliances within our home make our lives easier, but when they break it can be incredibly costly to replace them as well as inconvenient.

As many of you might know, your homeowner's insurance does not cover the normal wear and tear of appliances so opting into an appliance warranty when purchasing can be a smart way to ensure coverage on these appliances.

A home appliance warranty generally covers multiple devices in your home. For example, Ambit's surge protection plan protects appliances in your house from lightning strikes or power surges to things such as your air conditioner. Additionally, our AC/Heat Shield offering covers repairs, replacement, and even the necessary tune-ups for your homes heating and cooling systems.

There's a rule you can follow when it comes to knowing whether or not to buy new or repair and that is if the repair costs close to 50% of what the new device is then you purchase new.

Are you curious as to how efficient your appliances are and if you do in fact need repair?

One great way to solve this question to review your electric bill. If you see a spike in your consumption then it's time to start figuring out what is causing this.

Regardless, whether you choose a manufacturers warranty or a home appliance warranty its important that you have coverage.

So when is the best time to purchase new home appliances?

The answer is THE FALL with the exception of refrigerators which tend to be best to purchase in the spring. With all the Holiday shopping between Veterans Day and Black Friday and so many companies looking to meet their quotas you can generally find the best deals of the season on the majority of your home appliances!

If it is time to replace your appliances this is the time of year to do so!
