Joyful Noise Sound Therapy

Deep relaxation through sound and vibration.

23/04/2024

Hello friends!

It's dawned on me that I haven't shared some important news here. I am taking a pause from sound therapy until December 2024 or January 2025. I am excited and honored to announce that my good friend and colleague Betsy Coffia has asked me to be her Campaign Manager as she runs for re-election to the 103rd State House District.

I met Betsy back in 2017, and from the instant I met her, I knew that this was a person that would never stop working to affect positive change in our community. She’s all the things I want to see in a leader: determined, honest, trustworthy, a listener, kind, empathetic, eager to learn, and growth minded. When I moved to Traverse City in late 2018 I was happy to find out that I moved into her district as she served as a County Commissioner. I attended commission meetings when I could, and it was at those meetings I saw the dedication, passion and fire Betsy has for the community.

I am incredibly proud to work alongside Betsy as she continues to bring change to our Northern Michigan communities. Betsy has consistently shown up for Northern Michiganders, and I am grateful for the opportunity to help Betsy continue her crucial work for the people of Northern Michigan.

See you on the campaign trail,

Courtney

Y'all this is serious. I ask you, with all the might in my heart, to please donate. This is life or death - no cliche about this. Breana is currently being transferred to a facility that she's previously been to before and upon discharge she is worse off then when she was admitted. What most people may not know is that when you are taken to the hospital for mental health concerns and the hospital can't receive you on their mental health floor they send packets to other facilities with patient information. The facilities look over the sent history and decide if they 1) have room and 2) feel willing to take on the patient. It's random as to where someone will end up.

The facilities vary greatly in their environments. The one that Breana is currently being transferred to is one that leaves her feeling worse than when she was initially admitted. Myself, Allison and Susi are trying to find ways to get Breana to a more suitable facility. This is a short term solution for keeping Breana safe.

We need your help now in securing finances for a longer term humanizing form of mental health care. Please, please, please share far and wide.

Breana's life is such an important light to have in this world. We would like to see her thrive.

I have seen far too many people recently post of friends losing their friends due to su***de.

This is su***de prevention.

This is su***de prevention.

This is su***de prevention.

We are desperately trying to make sure our friend survives. Please help.

Next Wednesday, January 24th from 2-4pm, please join Summer and I for a grief gathering. We will be honoring all types and forms of grief. We will be co-creating this space with all that want to come together and explore rituals, releasing and other methods of being in community with grief.

Grief is often thought of in relation to losing someone that was impactful in our lives, but we encounter grief over lost relationships - platonic and/or romantic, moving, all types of transitions, and so many other everyday interactions. Even events that are deemed "joyful" - a promotion, weddings or births, for example, can have an element of grief mixed in as folx move from one way of being into a new way of being.

We hope to cultivate a space to talk openly about grief in its many forms.

We will be offering this space every other Wednesday at the same time and in the same location.

Super short notice, but my beautiful friend has offered me the use of her studio time this Thursday, November 30th from 6-7pm as a way to help me with costs I have incurred from the previous custody hearing. (I'm also bouncing back from time I took away from work for medical issues.)

I will be giving a sound bath that is donation based during this time with a focus on peace. This world, my world and perhaps even yours is in need of peace. Deep peace. A peace you can feel deep in your bones.

Please email [email protected] to register and cash donations at the door. πŸ™πŸΎπŸ’œβœ¨

This past week was FILLED with beautiful sound!

Last Saturday I was honored to be part of a grief retreat at , alongside and . What a beautiful space to express grief through creativity! I am still processing the magic that space contained!

Monday I gave a sound bath to a couple for their anniversary. It was such a beautiful thing to watch them hold hands and tune into themselves together.

Wednesday I had the opportunity to go back to to provide a sound bath for students and faculty. So cool that the college wants to provide an opportunity for folks to reconnect to their mind/body/spirit!

This past Thursday was Yin+Reiki+Sound Immersion with the lovely at - we do this class the third Thursday of the month. This past Thursday was absolutely magical! You can join us for the next one April 20th from 6-7:30pm.

Whether it's sound baths or personal sessions, I am so grateful for the ability to be in relationship with sound and vibration as a resource for relaxation, self-discovery, rebalancing, grounding, centering and nourishing the senses.

May the sights, sounds and hope of peace be with you. This day and all the days.

A self reminder:

Let's be clear. Healing is not putting aside what has happened in the past. True healing involves diving deep into what caused the harm, processing what happened, and tapping into our experience to find ways to work through our feelings and grow in constructive ways. Healing is work. It is deep rooted, not surface level. Healing involves trust, compassion, love, and an understanding that it's not going to be rainbows and puppies. It's ugly and beautiful separately and simultaneously.

If you want healing, please buckle your seatbelts and be prepared for a bumpy ride. This ain't easy work, but the destination is worth taking the ride.

It's in the noticing.
Trying to take a moment each day to truly SEE.
To drink in even the most mundane.
To just notice the bends, the fine details, the feel, the smell, maybe even the taste.
Taking in the sounds surrounding us.
It's in the noticing that we truly see.

Grateful to live not too far from any number of beaches. It is a privilege I don't take for granted. Lifting up praise for this land, these waters, this air. I hope you can find a little piece of peace, today.

Almost midnight meditation. I was sent a chime from .zaphir out of the blue. It was a total surprise to receive this beauty in the mail. The sound is quite lovely and I am so excited to add this to my sound therapy practice!

Took the bowls to the beach yesterday to do a session on the water with a client. It wasn't supposed to rain, I thought. I was able to provide a grounding session before the storm came in. Felt good to have the rain wash over everything. A fresh start to a fresh start. I am accepting clients once again. Have bowls, will travel! πŸ™πŸ’œ

If nothing else, this time of quarantine has provided me with the opportunity for internal growth. Facing some things about myself that I previously (knowingly and unknowingly) avoided because I felt like I didn't have time to process them. At the time, that may have been true. I made choices that worked at the time, but haven't served me in the long run. This strange period in our human history has allowed me to take a step back and survey my internal workings. I am working through some baggage. It isn't easy and my work isn't done, but I am on my way. Shedding my skin like the beloved cicada, once more. Hope this time period has allowed you some personal growth, and if not - you might be right where you need to be at this time. There is no judgement here. Only love. Wishing you all inner peace and love with whatever you may be experiencing at this time. Be gentle with yourself. πŸ™πŸŒ±β˜€
