Joel Gonzalez- BUHS School Board
I am running for Brawley Union High School board of Trustees.
To Our BUHSD Community.
It is with sadness that we confirm a tragic accident occurred early this morning involving four individuals in the vicinity of the Cattle Call arena. We have been in close contact with local law enforcement throughout the day. At this time, the identities of those involved have not been officially released. We will work to assist our students and staff through this trying time and will proactively employ a grief support team to aid those who may be in need of assistance. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends who may have been impacted by this tragedy.
Thank you.
Mr. Cervantes received the CTSO Scholarship for his classroom! Congratulations! These funds will go to support the work of talented students in their competitions.
Great to see our Admin staff helping out during the lunch hour for our kids on campus. Thank you for all you do even during your own lunch hour.
You really think I wasnβt gonna support our Wildcats, we bleed Blue and Gold.

Great time at High School Madness. BUHS did awesome.
Our program today was Ruben O. Niebla who is the pitching coach for the San Diego Padres. He told us that he is a Calexico native, having graduated from Calexico High School. He played in minor league baseball as a pitcher from 1995 to 2000 with the Montreal Expos and the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was with the Cleveland Indians for 21 years in multiple roles, most recently as the pitching coordinator for 7 years. He had great success with many players who made their way on to major league level. During the time that he was the assistant pitching coach for the Cleveland Indians, he knew his name was βgetting out thereβ. He heard that the San Diego Padres had fired their pitching coach and he realized that would be his dream job. He lives in El Centro on the off season and his family is here. He contacted his agent, who contacted the Padres immediately and was told that they already knew about him. As soon as the season was over, they start making contact. 3 days after the season was over, San Diego contacted Cleveland and wanted to hire him. He was so excited but waited for the interview. After the interview, they contacted him and told him he had the job. His daughter attends SDSU and was happy theyβd be roommates. Although he was able to tell his wife and immediate family, he couldnβt tell anyone else. Once the Padres hired Bob Melvin as manager, the story was leaked and he was able to tell people. As a pitching coach, he oversees the entire staff and the pitch plan attack, and heβs also in the dugout making decisions with the manager. Just last week, the Padres signed Jake Sanchez, who attended Brawley Union High School. Thank you, Ruben, for speaking with us today!
BESD would like to welcome School Resource Officer, Ralph Espinoza, to our family. Officer Espinoza will be stationed at Barbara Worth Junior High. We are excited to have him join us, and want to thank Chief Duran and Commander Blackstone from Brawley Police Department for working with us to secure an SRO
We are so proud of our Competition Cheer Team who competed this weekend! 3rd place π₯ Your hard work paid off with a clean routine and lots of funβΌοΈ
This afternoon I sat in on Senior presentations at DVHS. Great hearing these seniors and goals they have after they graduate. One kid really stood out to me and told us he wants to become a Barber and a Real estate agent. This kid didnβt want to be at home, he wanted to work. So this evening after dinner, I went to his place of employment and got a hair cut. Yes I cheated on my barber. But seeing this kids face when I walked was priceless. keep up the good work Angel, youβre going places
