Remember that today (Tuesday, 1/9) is a special election for our next state senator. Sen. Frank Ruff resigned for health reasons. If you can do so safely, be sure to get out and vote today!

Stay safe and dry!

Fellow Crewetons,

As you've probably heard by now, Council has given me the incredible honor of serving as Crewe's next town manager. Consequently, I need to resign my position as mayor. I've done so, (effective 11:59pm tonight).

Serving as an elected official for the last decade+ has been an amazing experience. I look forward to being able to work full-time to make Crewe a better place.

Please join me in thanking Jay Scudder, or interim town manager for the last year and half, as well as Vice Mayor Anne Stinson, who will serve as Acting Mayor for the time being.

Attention Republicans in Frank Ruff's senate district: Please come out to the Mass Meeting today (Tuesday, 12/19) at the Drakes Branch Fire Department and vote for Lee Vogler to be our nominee for state senate!

Registration begins at 5pm. The meeting begins at 6:30. You must be in line by 6:30 in order to participate.

Let me know if you have any questions. If you live in Nottoway, let me know if you need a ride there!

🚨ELECTION UPDATE🚨

The Republican nomination for the 9th Senate District will be THIS Tuesday, December 19th, at the Drakes Branch Volunteer Fire Department. We need as many strong conservatives as possible to show up and make their voices heard.

Since becoming mayor, I rarely publicly endorse candidates for elected office--at the local level you need to be able to work with everyone, and (like I tell my students), there's no Democratic or Republican way to fill a pothole.

But occasionally a candidate comes along who is the absolute best person for the job, and I can't help but give them my full support. My friend Lee Vogler is one of those candidates. I first met him in the McDonnell campaign office in 2008 (he and I were 2 of the first 3 volunteers for Bob); he was finishing undergrad and I had just recently graduated. Since then Lee has gone on to serving his community--the City of Danville--as a member of council.

And the work he and his fellow council members have done is incredible. If you haven't been to Danville in the last decade, you'll be amazed at the vibrant city its becoming (the "comeback city", as Lee calls it). It seems like every time you look they have a new economic development deal in the works. And the land bank legislation Lee worked tirelessly to get passed is great tool for fighting blight (and something I'd like to get started in Crewe).

Senator Frank Ruff has been a good friend to Crewe, Nottoway, and the district. With his resignation for health reasons, we continue to pray for his swift recovery and wish him all the best in his retirement.

Looking to the future, Lee Vogler is the best man to step in and represent the 9th district. His focus on economic development, revitalizing Southside Virginia, and common sense policies are exactly what we need in the state legislature. Please join me in supporting my friend, Lee Vogler as our next state senator!

🚨️️ANNOUNCEMENT 🚨️️

After much prayer and consideration, I am proud to announce my candidacy for State Senate! I will be a leader in Richmond with the experience of creating good-paying jobs for our community and defending our Southside way of life.

PUBLIC NOTICE:

The Town of Crewe Public Works Department will begin flushing fire hydrants on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. Town staff will be on both east and west ends of town to start the flushing simultaneously. Water main flushing is an important preventative maintenance activity that verifies proper operation of the hydrant, removes mineral and sediment buildup from the water lines, and allows for delivery of the highest quality water possible.

When flushing is taking place, water clarity may temporarily be reduced. Using water for tasks such as dishwashing, laundry, or showering may result in the discoloration/staining of your clothes or household items. Please plan accordingly. Additionally, during the process you might experience a difference in water pressure as well as some discoloration in the water.

Once the hydrants in your area have completed their flushing, it shouldn't be long until your water is ready for normal use again. Turn your faucets on cold and let the water run for 5 minutes or so. It is recommended to allow up to 12 to 24 hours for all discoloration to subside. If you are still seeing discolored water or sediments in the water, continue running cold water on all your faucets until it is clear.

If you have any questions, please call the Town Office at 434-645-9453.

All items must be placed out by 7am Monday, so be sure to take the great weather this weekend to do a little cleaning!

Fellow Crewetons,

Governor Youngkin has declared a State of Emergency ahead of the storm expected to last tonight through tomorrow evening.

According to the 11am briefing, Nottoway County is split between the 2-4" and 3-6" of rain line. Watch out for potential flooding. Some strong winds tonight should taper off in the morning as the eye comes over VA, but then increase again tomorrow afternoon. The winds will be felt more strongly more east of here.

A very slight possibility of tornadic activity can't be ruled out for our area.

Be sure to charge your electronic devices and ensure your emergency preparedness kits are well-stocked. Heavy rain creates soft ground. Soft ground and strong winds bring down both limbs and trees, taking power lines with them.

Stay safe, and check on your elderly neighbors, especially if the power goes out.

08/09/2023

Fellow Crewetons,

Please consider calling or writing Governor Glenn Youngkin this morning at (804) 786-2211 or [email protected] and urging him to strike Item C-78(B) on page 629 of the budget.

While I was in the mountains of Vermont and couldn’t make it to today’s grand opening, I was supporting Crewe’s newest business, the “Straight Outta Philly” food truck in spirit. Everyone go out and get yourself a great meal and support local business!

Photos from Mayor Phil Miskovic's post 12/05/2023

The Town of Crewe is open for business!

Be sure to check out our newest business, the "Straight Outta Philly" food truck, across the street from Crewe Baptist Church! They've taken a vacant lot, set up picnic tables with umbrellas, co****le boards and other yard games, and attractive lighting for a great outdoor dining experience. An innovative way to use empty space for low-cost business and community development.

And the food is incredible! I had the "That's My Jam" burger. The fresh arugula, creamy goat cheese, smoky pork belly were the perfect combination, accentuated with the sweet and not-too-spicy kick from the habanero bacon jelly. A great experience!

Go see them!
