Pura Vida ! Caza de Pato !!!!

I finally got the lighting installed on the two ducks that I am most proud of.
Although they might look to be prime specimens , these Red Head drakes are the most special in my lifetime. I’ve probably taken well into the thousands of these.
The left duck flying right is one of two taken on 12/28/2022 with a very special guest. Jack was a very special guest that day and many times I would watch him and do everything in my power to control my emotions . You see Jack was blind and his blindness was only a part of his situation. The blindness was caused by a rare and terminal disease called Battens Disease that is fatal.
We hunted with no success in one of our best blinds prior but on the afternoon hunt, we moved to another blind. The first wave of ducks came in on our right side coming in front of us and then hooked back landing in the opening in the decoys that we set up purposely to hope they’d land right in front of Jack and I. Perfect setup and we had around 30 ducks sitting in front of us interacting with the decoys . I whispered in Jacks ear that we had a lot in front of us and to get ready. He said ok as I helped him position his hand on the trigger of the Beretta A400. I told him when I say pull, you squeeze off the shot. I was Jacks eyes and sight man. I had a big Drake lined up for him right out front . I told him “pull” and watched as that big Drake was rolled over backwards from the hit. I was elated, I had what I had set out to do, that one duck was the reward . I watched as the others took flight and still had Jack in position when I decided to take a chance and swing with this kid on the trigger . I swung, told him pull and to my amazement , the second Drake fell.
In all of my experience , I knew that something this perfect had a higher power involved . This just doesn’t happen. I looked at the duck, looked to the sky and said “Thank you lord”!
So I made a deal with Jack, one mounted for him and one mounted for me so I could look at it each day and remember one of the most spectacular hunts of my life.

The duck on the right was taken by my wife and was her first duck. Being traumatized by a gun that had knocked her down at a young age, she wouldn’t pick up a gun. I never pressured her to hunt but then this very sweet special guest from Tennessee came rolling in one morning and began to talk with Crystal . The words were “If I can do it, you can do it”. That day Cheyenne Pistel made a change in the way Crystal Costello-Mallon was thinking . She picked up a shotgun and began once again after many years, to shoot again. She got her first and it’s on the wall along with her first Pintail Drake also. These days she enjoys the trips and getting in the mix when the ducks come in. She’s now right in there with her own son, grandchildren and friends out there making some of the best memories. And a big thanks to a beautiful woman in a wheelchair that changed it all for her.

Back in 2019 I bought a post from a roadside vendor in San Fernando Mexico. The posts are sold each spring for building fences and other things. The tree is Ebanos or Mexican Ebony . It’s one of the hardest and heaviest woods I’ve ever seen with tight growth rings and slow growth. This is sought after for making things such as Bows, Pool Cues, and Duck Calls etc. We cut them down to smaller pieces and peeled all of them in order to get them into USA through customs. I gave some to several people that had requested it. Saturday, a package came in the mail from Haydel's Game Calls . I had given Rod Haydel a few pieces and he had them turned into some beautiful duck calls. Thanks so much Rod, they turned out beautiful with the H2 Logo and Cajun Cutter engraving. These are going to my grandsons along with the story of their journey. I know they will cherish them.

I wouldn't wish this on anyone but those of you that think you can do as you please better remember you're a nobody in Mexico and nobody is exempt. Anyone that has ever promoted this operation either doesn't know it very well or is just as big a lowlife .
