Have your petition set with a fixed, dressed, blessed light on my St. Cyprian altar for a nine-day novena, chaplet, and community altar service for the Cyprianic Holy Days, September 17-25, 2024. During the work, I will construct and consecrate a custom paket for each participant booking the continuous vigil option (meaning you have lights set and burning 24/7 for the duration of the nine-day service)....

I got behind on gift boxes for monthly Platinum supporters through Ko-fi, but I spent the weekend getting caught up, and those are going out tomorrow today. If you've been a Platinum supporter for a few months, you'll be getting a larger than usual box since you'll be getting several gifts at once. Sorry about the delay - I absolutely did not forget about y'all 🙂...

I could tell you about how much trouble so many of our native flora and fauna are in. I could even tailor the discussion to my audience by focusing on the trade in herbs and curios that is integral to the practice of modern-day hoodoo rootwork. I've certainly gotten a much deeper (and more somber) picture of that trouble since the pandemic, when I made it my "quarantine mission" to learn every plant I could on the ten acres I named Seraphin Station and began assembling the skeleton of the…...

The creation of, and move to, my own space has been going agonizingly slowly, but I’m officially in the "acute need to downsize" segment. I also need to ship *several* bins of packages, to which end my cashflow needs a shot in the arm. No codes needed for discounts - eligible items either have a "sale" label on them or the discount will appear in your shopping cart once the items are in there (buy 3, get 1)....

St. Peter is an enormously popular saint who is called on for all kinds of things. He was appointed by Christ as the first pope of the church, and the keys signify his authority as its first prelate and the authority of the church to bind and loose -- basically to open and close the gates of heaven. This is essentially what gives the church the authority to administer the sacrament of reconciliation and thus forgive sins, opening the gates to heaven for the penitent....

This is called stinging nettle in some regions, but it isn't the same plant you'll usually find labeled stinging nettle in a shop - that one is Urtica dioica. This one is Cnidoscolus urens, aka bull nettle, spurge nettle, or devil nettle. Plants in the genus Cnidoscolus are used to strengthen a man's nature, either alone or in combination with greenbrier (Smilax laurifolia) soaked in whiskey. It's also used medicinally in many of the same ways as Urtica dioica, often as a counter-irritant.
Supposedly the seeds and roots are edible, but it seems like an awful lot of trouble (on account of the fact that this plant will raise welts just like stinging nettle), so I've never tried to eat it.
Look what hitched a ride from Louisiana with the irises 😄
Work will begin and lights will be set the night of Tuesday, May 7th. There is definitely wiggle room and you can book late if you still see slots open. This New Moon is in Ta**us, and it has a lot of company for the first half of May. The New Moon forms a stellium (a conjunction but with extra guests) with Venus, Jupiter, and Uranus, activating the energy from the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction at a more personal level (especially if we have significant natal chart placements around 22* of Ta**us)....

Summary: Yes, it took me a couple of months to write two sentences in an article on smilax. Upside: being a grammar and philology geek who falls down research rabbit holes has paid off with some fascinating info about magical uses of smilax that I seriously doubt has ever appeared in print before, at least not in English. I'm finishing that article this weekend, God willing. More info on my Ko-fi page.

Spoonleaf everlasting

- I can sum this up in a single sentence: play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
- But isn't there--
- No.
- Ok, but what about--
- No.
- But couldn't we--
- Nope.
- What if--
- Not a chance.
- But you always say this isn't destiny set in stone!
- I'm not saying any different about destiny now. You have free will. You are free to keep playing this game if you want. You might even win. But you are *not* gonna like the prizes.
Spoonleaf everlasting, aka purple cudw**d, catfoot, chafe w**d (Gamochaeta purpurea). In some regions, catfoot is a different plant (Antennaria neglecta), and the everlasting used in hoodoo and medicine is often a Gnaphalium rather than a Gamochaeta. I won't speak to the medicinal angles without doing more research, but magically, I don't split hairs about all these - everlasting is everlasting, you know it when you see it, it's all over the place, the old folks probably drank it in a tea when they were little, and I believe all these used to be classified as Gnaphalium anyway and it's only been fairly recently that spoonleaf everlasting and its kin got renamed as members of Gamochaeta. (All of these that I've mentioned are in the daisy family, Asteraceae.)
In any case, this particular type of everlasting/cudw**d was and is used in Louisiana and elsewhere to ward off and treat colds and fever, and the spiritual uses extend accordingly: use it for health and a long life.
