Tackling the Serious Problem of He**in & Opioid Addiction in South Side Chicago

The Southside He**in/Opioid Task Force is comprised of community-based agencies (CBO), health care providers, and governmental agencies to address the opioid epidemic facing men, women, and children on the south side of Chicago, resulting in increased deaths. We're here to ensure that the south side region of Chicago works together to help reduce opioid and he**in addiction, prevent overdose deaths and improve the quality of life in our community.

He**in / opioid task force ‘launches’ on South Side 01/09/2022

CHICAGO – State Senator Mattie Hunter is hosting a press conference on International Opioid Awareness Day to announce the launch of the South Side He**in/Opioid Task Force, which she is the convener of.

Florence Mason, Director of the South Side He**in/Opioid Task Force, Walonza Lee, Program Director Office of Substance Use Chicago Department of Public Health, and Livia VerklanMcinnes, GIS Analyst for the Chicago Department of Public Health, and La Shaun Rickman, Executive Director of Brighter, Behavior, Choices Inc., will join Hunter as speakers.

“Our goal with this task force is to make treatment and other resources available for those struggling with substance abuse more accessible,” said Hunter (D-Chicago). “We want to provide support for those dealing with substance use and their loved ones with tangible resources to combat this crisis and let them know that overdose is avoidable when help is available.”

Fentanyl At Music Festivals Raises Concerns 09/08/2022

Public health officials in Chicago are urging would-be Lollapalooza-goers to test their drugs for Fentanyl, citing concerns of potential overdoses during the four-day music festival. The festival, which was held over the weekend, saw nearly 400,000 people flood the city’s Grant Park, many of which were believed to be partaking in illicit drug use.

“There’s going to be people walking around with backpacks at Lollapalooza, that are going to be selling pills that are going to be laced with Fentanyl. There’s not a doubt in my mind,” said a spokesperson for the Chicago Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) in the days leading up to the festival. Read more...
