LifeWise Home Lesson for April 19, 2024 (Week 20)
Joshua and Caleb – Numbers 13:1-14:38
Big Picture Question: Who can keep God’s law perfectly?
Caleb and Joshua knew God’s promise to provide land and trusted God to provide the way for them to confidently move into Canaan. Joshua was not perfect, but his faithfulness reminds us of Jesus, who is perfect. Jesus obeyed the Father and trusted his promise to save people from their sins. When we have faith in Jesus, we too can move confidently in God’s promise to guide, provide, and save us.
READ TOGETHER: Numbers 13:1-14:38
Before God rescued his people from slavery in Egypt, he promised to bring the Israelites back to the land he had given to Abraham (Exod 3:8). The Israelites had crossed the wilderness and were just ready to enter the promised land. God instructed Moses to send twelve men (one from each tribe) into the land to “spy” on the area.
Most of the people who went into Canaan saw the bounty the land had to offer, but they also noticed the people living there were big and strong, and the cities were well fortified. They had serious doubts about their ability to overtake the land.
Two spies, Joshua and Caleb, understood how God was with the people and that with God’s help they could do anything, especially something God had already told them to do. “We must go up and take possession of the land because we can certainly conquer it,” Caleb announced. But the other ten scouts spread their fear around the entire community. In utter despair, people were plotting to overthrow Moses and elect a leader who would take them back to Egypt!
God was not happy with Israel. After all God had done for them, how could they not trust him to do what he said he would do? God was ready to strike down the people he had chosen, but Moses interceded on their behalf. Instead, God prevented a whole generation from entering the good place he had for them. Joshua and Caleb were the only ones who got to enter the promised land 40 years later.
LIFEWISE QUALITY: Confidence – Trusting in God’s goodness and character no matter what.
DISCUSS TOGETHER
Confidence is often a matter of where we place our focus. Joshua and Caleb focused on God’s promises. The other ten focused on their own sense of what could, and mostly what could not be done. Consider these scenarios. Are these examples of a focus that builds confidence or hurts it?
• Comparing ourselves to how popular or smart someone else is.
• Trusting that God has a plan when someone else gets the role you wanted in the school play.
• Spending hours reading online comments on a viral video.
• Memorizing Bible verses such as Hebrews 13:5: “He himself has said, I will never leave your or forsake you.”
Family Activity: Trust Walk
One person should wear a blindfold while a parent leads them along a path, guiding them away from obstacles.
Talk about how it can be scary to walk when you can’t see where you are going. You must trust the person who is leading you to keep you on the right path. How is this exercise like learning to trust parents? How is like learning to trust God?
MEMORY VERSE
But as the one who called you is holy, you also are to be holy in all your conduct; for it is written, “Be holy, because I am holy.”
I Peter 1:15-16 (CSB)
PRAY TOGETHER
God Almighty, over and over again, you show us that you are faithful. Even when the Israelites did not trust you, you kept your promise to give the land of Canaan to Abraham’s family. Thank you for sending your son, Jesus, to rescue us from sin. We know we can trust you to take care of us in every way because you are faithful. We love you. Amen.
Join us THIS SATURDAY for a delicious 4-course meal and help support the LifeWise Crestview program. Our teachers and director will also be treating us to a mini-lesson, so you'll get to experience a LifeWise class and a trip on the LifeWise bus.
LifeWise Home Lesson for April 12, 2024 (Week 19)
The Tabernacle is Built – Exodus 35:4-40:38.
Big Picture Question: Who can keep God’s law?
Answer: No one can keep God’s law perfectly except Jesus.
The word “tabernacle” means dwelling place. God gave Moses explicit instructions about how to build a place for God. Every part of the design illustrated that God lived among them. The rooms and furnishings showed the people how to worship God.
The tabernacle, and the Temple that would eventually replace it, were temporary representations of God’s presence until Jesus Christ came (John 1:14; Rev 21:3). Like the tabernacle, Jesus shows us God’s desire to be with his people and his plan to bring people back to himself.
READ TOGETHER: Exodus 40:1-38
Before you read the passage take some time to skim (or read if time allows) the instructions for the building of the tabernacle (Ex 35-39). They’re very detailed!
God was not trying to burden his people. He was trying to show them his holiness and absolute authority. The people joyfully made offerings of gold, silver, and cloth for building materials. Many offered their skills and craftmanship. And when the work was complete, God’s glory moved in as a cloud by day and fire by night.
The tabernacle was a visual picture of God dwelling with the people. It was a copy of the true tabernacle, Heaven (Hebrews 8:5), where believers will be able to fully worship God and he will be fully present with them.
DISCUSS TOGETHER
Read Ex 35:30-35. Bezalel and Oholiab were craftsman and given charge over others to help construct the tabernacle.
• What skills do you have (or would like to learn) to be able to help build God’s kingdom in our world today?
Read Ex 36:1-6. The people brought so many offerings to build the tabernacle, Moses had to ask them to stop.
• If you were asked to give something to bring God’s presence to someone, what do you have to offer?
LIFEWISE QUALITY: Wholeheartedness – Complete dedication in everything I do.
Family Activity: Home Sweet Home
Being wholehearted doesn’t mean we have to love every single minute of completing a boring or regular job. It does mean that we keep in mind why we’re doing something (as if to serve God) and always do our best work (because we work for him).
Together, as a family, draw a floorplan of your house.
• Talk about the function of each of the rooms.
• Go over the rules and responsibilities each member has in each room.
• Allow each member a chance to talk about how they feel in that room.
• Ask one another how much you are aware of God’s presence with you in your home.
• Take time to be grateful for your family, home, and God’s promise to always be with you.
MEMORY VERSE
But as the one who called you is holy, you also are to be holy in all your conduct; for it is written, “Be holy, because I am holy.”
Romans 10:9 (CSB)
Note: Holy means to be “set apart for a special purpose.” Try saying the verse with this phrase in mind.
PRAY TOGETHER
Father God, thank you for choosing to dwell with the people you created. Thank you for the tabernacle and for how it reminds us of your great love and desire to be near us. We are so grateful that you send your Holy Spirit through faith in Jesus and for his ability to save us from sin. Amen

LifeWise Home Lesson for March 22, 2024 (Week 18)
Jesus Dies and Rises – Matthew 26:36-28:10; John 18:1-20:18
Big Picture Question: Who can save us from sin?
We deserve to die because of our sin, but Jesus died in our place. He was the blood sacrifice made once and for all the forgiveness of sin. Jesus’ blood satisfied the need for justice. Jesus’ mercy on our behalf shows God’s profound love. God’s power to bring Jesus back to life shows us that eternal life with God is possible.
Only God, through Jesus Christ, can meet all these needs. Jesus arms are open wide to receive us. Will we receive him?
READ TOGETHER: Holy Week Devotional
If your family is not already involved in an Easter devotional, consider spending some time together this Holy Week to read and discuss the following passages. Begin on Palm Sunday (3/24).

Day 2: (3/25) Mt 26:36-56, The Garden
Day 3: (3.26) Mt 26:57-68, The Arrest
Day 4: (3/27) Mt 26:69-27:2, The Denial
Day 5: (3/28) Mt 27:11-31, The Trial
Note: Mt 27:3-10 concerns Judas’ su***de. Use this material at your discretion.
Day 6: (Good Friday) Mt 27:32-61, The Crucifixion
Day 7: (Holy Saturday) Mt 27:62-66, The Tomb
Day 8: (EASTER SUNDAY) Mt 28:1-10, The Resurrection
DISCUSS TOGETHER
As you read each day, consider discussing these questions:
• What does this passage say about Jesus?
• What does this passage say about people?
• What does this passage say about the relationship between Jesus and people?
• What does this story mean for each of us?
LIFEWISE QUALITY: Love – choosing to support and care for others whether or not they deserve it.
Family Activity: How can I show love?
Talk about how to put love into action. Choose an activity to do sometime throughout the week to support and care for someone. You could:
• Share a meal with someone who is sick.
• Visit someone who is shut-in.
• Send a card or letter to someone who is sad.
• Show kindness to one another in your family.
MEMORY VERSE
If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 10:9 (CSB)
PRAY TOGETHER
Loving God, you are so faithful. Thank you for your Word so we can know about your perfect plan to save people from sin. Thank you for sending Jesus to rescue us and bring us back to fellowship with you. Please help us to change our hearts to love you more. Amen.
LifeWise Families...will you join us in the Easter Break Challenge?
We hope you can join us...all are welcome! Event will take place rain or shine.
We want to say a special thank you to Miss Linda for sharing a great example of how others show love to us! LifeWise students…since there is no school (and no LifeWise) tomorrow, could you take a few minutes to make a card or two for the service men and women in our community?
LifeWise Home Lesson for March 8, 2024 (Week 17)
Jesus Prepares for the Cross – Matthew 21:1-17, 26:17-30; John 13:1-15
The Big Picture Question LifeWise students will think about this week is truly a big question: Why did Jesus die?
The answer? Sin separates us from God. Jesus shows us that God loves us and saves us from sin by paying the price with the life of his own son. We can now have a relationship with our Father God who not only loves but leads us in the right way.
READ TOGETHER: Matthew 21:1-17, 26:17-30; John 13:1-15
Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem riding on a lowly donkey. Still, the people laid branches and their robes on the ground and welcomed him as the promised Messiah. The next day, Jesus went to the Temple and turned over the tables of those selling goods there. He also healed the blind and the lame. A bit later, the priests heard the children in the temple worshiping Jesus. Jesus gladly received their praise, but the priests were hot with anger.
The disciples prepared for the Passover Feast. Jesus washed his disciples’ feet as if he were a mere servant. Then as they ate the Passover meal, Jesus broke the bread and shared the cup and told his friends that these things represented his body and blood. He told them that God was making a new covenant (promise). As the Lamb of God, Jesus would bring salvation to the world.
Jesus’ actions were not like a worldly king, but he was fulfilling what God’s Word said. (See Zechariah 9:9; Isaiah 35:4-6; 56:7; Psalm 8:2; John 13:15.)
LIFEWISE QUALITY: Love – choosing to support and care for others whether or not they deserve it.
DISCUSS TOGETHER
Love is much more than a feeling. Love is action, and when we choose to do what is best for others it shows love. Consider how to show love in these situations.
• A classmate is upset on the playground.
• Your sibling’s best friend is moving away.
• Your parents are nervous about an upcoming job interview.
• Name a situation that you know about that needs love to be put into action.
Family Activity: Who Saves?
True love isn’t about candy and flowers, heart emojis and glittery cards. It is about living our lives like Jesus did. In the final week of Jesus’ life, he showed love in lots of ways. He taught people about God; he made space in the temple for people to worship God; he washed his friends’ feet; he shared Passover with one who would betray him; and he did all this knowing he was going to die on the cross.
Think of first responders in your community (firefighters, doctors/nurses/EMT’s; military persons or veterans; law enforcement, etc.) Try to come up with ways you can show appreciation to people who put their lives on the line to keep us healthy and safe. Make a personal visit to them or write a letter of appreciation. Maybe your family could volunteer at a local shelter or agency to perform some needed tasks.
Jesus showed love through action. Think of a way you can show love each day.
MEMORY VERSE
If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. -Romans 10:9 (CSB)
PRAY TOGETHER
Lord God, Hosana! Only you can truly save us. Thank you for coming into the world to rescue us from sin and death. You love us so much. Help us to live in a way that brings glory to you. Help us to pay attention to the way you love us every day. Amen.
