11 blood & plasma donors saved my life this past summer. I had severe bleeding in childbirth, coded, and nearly died. Our baby didn't make it, but I did, and am alive for more adventures. Without those blood & plasma donors, I wouldn't be here today.

Would you consider donating blood this month? There is a critical shortage of blood right now in the US, as fewer people are donating now compared to pre-COIVD times. Save someones life, like those 11 donors saved mine

Graduated yesterday from University of Nevada Reno with my Doctorate of Nurse Practitioner. Grateful to everyone who supported me on this path of higher education. Honored to have Wilson give a beautiful opening prayer for the ceremony. Looking forward to taking the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) certification exam in a few months to become board certified in a second specialty. Love having the tools to expand access to quality healthcare to underserved and rural communities!

Healing the Pain of Separation

One of the deeper wounds from the COVID pandemic has been the pain of separation from our loved ones and our communities.

We all were born with an innate need and desire to connect and bond with others. This connection helps us heal and endure hard times. At the very time when the pandemic inflicted painful life changes and illness, we were asked to stay away from the ones who could have best supported us in our distress.

Gratefully social distancing decreased the spread of illness and death. It also opened wounds of separation and loneliness. I have noticed it is harder for me to be in large groups, and sometimes I withdraw from friends in ways I wouldn't have before.

The gift in this wound is an opportunity to re-connect with our friends, our families, and our community. Connection with our loved ones will weave our hearts back together.

The Fertile Darkness

Today is solstice, the darkest day of the year.

I imagine if I was a deciduous tree, my mental narrative right now would go something like, "all my leaves died and fell off! My sap has stopped flowing, and the ground is freezing my roots! Things are going terribly!"

Some days I feel like that tree, particularly when the daylight is short and the air is cold.

But then I imagine fertility in the darkness. I imagine my body and soul resting, preparing for germination, getting ready to sprout new life. I envision the beauty and fullness I am growing.

Creation is coming.

On Vulnerability

I love reading Brene Browns work on vulnerability and authenticity. Her philosophy has changed how I feel and show up in the world.
When I was a new grad, clients sometimes gave me feedback that my voice sounded "fake." I realized that I was presenting as the provider I thought I should be, instead of who I really was.

Now I show up with my whole heart. At first I was scared that clients would see me as a fraud, or incompetent, but on the contrary it helped them feel more vulnerable and authentic with me.

Part of being vulnerable for me is owning when I don't know the answer to a question. It also means approaching others with respect and curiosity, open to learning more about them. My goal is that others can feel my open heart, and know that I genuinely care about them.

Is there part of you life where you would like to show up more authentic and vulnerable?
