Singing in a choir has been proven by research to be "good for you" and mental health. A mother's voice calms a baby. Singing along to a good song on the radio can improve your mood.

Music itself has healing properties AND is the ONLY subject that students participate in school that uses BOTH sides of your brain, the logical and emotional sides. This is important evidence as to why the students that graduate top of their class, on average, are also musicians.

There is a mountain of scientific evidence as well that ALL of the fine and performing arts help to develop well rounded children and is what is the best part of what makes us human. But it is the performance of music in a group that connects us like nothing else.

We are the ONLY species on the planet that sing for pleasure. Whales and frogs and other creatures sing for connection and communication but for humans singing feeds our soul. Brain scans show that participation in making music can actually heal the brain and develop new neurological pathways.

Busy families often say they don't have time for "one more thing". But the question might be "Can we really afford to miss out on the benefits of singing in a choir?" Perhaps we CAN make time for what's most important by making adjustments in other areas.

Choir may not be for everyone. But our choir is a great option for those that might like to give it a try. We hope your 3rd-6th grader will join us for auditions next Monday, September 9th. Register today!

Meet **Kyle**, one of our singers in the NHCC who often impresses us with his singing voice! But little did we know, he is also a swimmer, plays soccer, and piano!

Meet **Vik** and **Nyra**, a talented brother and sister duo. They not only sing with NHCC, but Nyra plays the cello and piano and swims, and Vik plays piano, the recorder, and plays tennis.

Nyra is also a two year State Honor Choir participant! We couldn't be more proud to have these two as committed multi year members of NHCC.

They do BOTH, and YOU can too!

We had an INCREDIBLE day of fun down at NRG Stadium with the Houston Texans !!! We took so many pictures from our great experience that it took a bit to edit! THANK YOU TEXANS for this fun and rewarding opportunity.

A HUGE THANK YOU to Six J Marketing for their generous donation, the wonderful gift bags for the students, the use of their suite for the directors, and sharing your talented daughter with us 🎶 🎉 We the directors are forever grateful for your continuous support!!!

The kids...AMAZING!!! We are in awe of their talent and professionalism. From the ride down on the charter bus, to the logistics getting into the stadium, to the waiting, to the practicing of how to walk on the field multiple times, to the sound check, to the breakfast provided, to the meet and greets with the cheerleaders and other personel, to the long walk back and forth several times, to more waiting, to the walk onto the field AND PERFORMANCE, they were absolute PROS. We received so many compliments about these children. SOOOOOOO MANY!!!! Impressive.

Some other notes from the day:
One of the cheerleaders was in Mrs. Riddle's choir when she was younger, and we got to pose with some of the cheerleaders. We also had to "entertain" the kids for about an hour of waiting after the sound check and when they got restless we played a few games in the holding room. Which reminded us how much fun kids can have with rock, paper, scissors, and no electronics. 🤣

Thank you parents for sharing your REMARKABLE singers with us. We couldn't be more honored to GET TO direct and lead them. What a privilege! Thank you!!! This will forever be a wonderful memory for all of us.

The student members pay an annual fee of $300 to participate in NHCC which includes almost all of their expenses for the year like uniform shirts, rehearsal space rental, bus transportation to major events, and more!

BUT it is a goal of the directors to NOT let an inability to pay EXCLUDE a student from participating. We don't want limited funds to be an obstacle to providing positive musical experiences to talented kids in the North Houston area, who in turn bless our community in so many ways.

Our NHCC students have multiple talents and so do our directors! Mrs. Harrington just received her Masters Degree that she earned while she was teaching music and directing our choir! Today was an AMAZING day! What an incredible performance by our EIGHT NHCC members that performed with the TCDA State Honor Choir. It was truly magical to hear their angelic voices!

These students have grown so much in just a few days of working with the clinicians but WOW they have grown as musicians too. We can't wait to work with our repeating members again and will miss terribly our upcoming 7th graders, moving on to incredible choir programs.

Not only are these kids talented, but they are beautiful inside and out, and these pics prove that we like to have some fun too 🎶🎉😁
