Palm Ghosts release cover of "Grey Cell Green" for charity - TGEFM Nashville's Palm Ghosts are finally putting their talents to good use. (I kid, I kid!) The band has released a cover of the Ned's Atomic Dustbin song “Grey Cell Green” on their Bandcamp page. The cover is available for $2 and, while that may seem a lot for one song, all proceeds will go to Be Th...
A few weeks ago, Nashville's Palm Ghosts came to Dayton for a show and crashed with me. The guitarist, Ben, was telling me about a friend with cerebral palsy that has a charity, Be The Big Spoon, that raises money for specialized spoons for people with disabilities. I'd seen the spoons before because one of my best friends, and my cousin, who has CP, use similar items.
During that same visit, the band played me an unreleased cover they'd done of Ned's Atomic Dustbin's "Grey Cell Green," a formative song for many Gen-Xers like me who remember the video from MTV in the '90s. I loved it.
I asked the band if they'd be willing to put the song up for a Bandcamp Friday to benefit the Be The Big Spoon charity. The only issue was that the song wasn't mastered. I talked to my friend Dan Coutant (of the band Spoils System) at Sun Room Mastering and he agreed to do it for free.
We plan to put it up on Friday, April 7 (Bandcamp Friday), with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the charity!
More on Be the Big Spoon:
"My mission is simple. If this device will improve your quality of life, you should have one, no matter your ability to afford one. As a man born with Cerebral Palsy, I know firsthand that life with a disability comes with added struggles and expenses. Also, as a guy who is so completely comfortable with having CP that I go by the nickname of “Shakes,” I can say that the first time to use this spoon was a life changing moment. I can't imagine how it would affect someone who isn't as comfortable with their own disability! These spoons, with accessories, cost around $300-$350, depending on the particular disability and, spoon handle needed. Items like these are not covered by Medicare, Medicaid or, majority of private insurance. Therefore, I search out people who would benefit from this technology and, simply give them one, along with the available accessories."
