About this Natural processed coffee from Uganda:
The Rwenzoris are known for producing naturals, but much of Uganda’s Arabica green coffee used to be made up of “drugar” (dried Ugandan Arabica) grade beans that were inconsistent and often of poor quality. As a result, farmers struggled to earn much cash from these harvests. Now, new receiving stations enable great coffee to be delivered and processed into high-quality lots of natural and washed Uganda green coffee, including experimental micro-lots. This coffee was collected via the receiving stations, where farmers are paid double what they’re used to getting for “drugars” (dried Ugandan Arabica).

The sale of coffee from this region helps pay for essentials like sending children to school.

This month’s Roaster’s choice was a Super Duper banger. Seriously, I loved roasting this one. Major fruit aromas, right in my face when I opened the bag before roasting. It carried through the roast, too, all light and tropical. Brewing was no different, it’s amazing what coffee can be depending on where it was grown and how it was processed. What makes this batch so special? If you have a subscription, you already know from the included info card. This bean was grown in Colombia on the La Aurora farm where the ripest coffee cherries were picked and anaerobically fermented for 72 hours to enhance their natural sweetness. They were then dried naturally in the sun on raised drying beds with the fruit intact to preserve this coffee’s natural sweetness.
I went with a little lighter roast here, starting with higher heat and lowering through the curve to help slowly caramelizar those sugars.
Seriously stoked how this came out.

Super duper thankful for people like Kevin Hershock doing wonderful work with his non-profit Be A Number. Kevin brought a Super Duper pouch all the way to Uganda! Congratulations are in order as they were recently able to raise $10k that was matched in double by an anonymous donor. A lot of their work and fundraising goes to support a local, tribal organization on the ground in Uganda, to empower young mothers and children in post-war regions through vocational centers and more.

These beans were grown by women farmers in the Southern Chiapas State of Mexico, united in their efforts to eliminate gender inequality and expand economic opportunities for women in Mexico. Grown in a humid and tropical environment, fermented in small tanks, then sundried. Café de Mujer’s offers warm nuttiness, dried fruit sweetness with a tea-like body. This one roasted real nice, perfect for a pour over or drip brew.

This coffee reeks of bourbon, with a super pleasant roasty bourbon flavor throughout this super smooth coffee.
