Dear Editor,
Subject: “Independent Candidate”
Is there such a thing as an Independent Candidate anymore? I believe this is more misinformation than a statement of fact.
Our local government is our last line of defense against the institutions we used to trust. That said - the following are questions all candidates need to answer before they get our vote.
1. What conservative/Republican agenda items do you oppose, which ones do you support and what actions will you use to implement your beliefs.
2. What liberal/Democrat agenda items do you oppose, which ones do you support and what actions will you use to implement your beliefs.
3. Since 2020 the Covid19 agenda has been a campaign that has thrown the Constitution and Rule of Law under the bus. Free speech, HIPA, Mask mandates. Forced closing of businesses and schools all based more on a political agenda were the norm. What are your plans to combat this overreach in King William? What sources will you use to verify the accuracy of information you base your decisions on after looking at both sides of the discussion?
4. FOIA requests to our county should be posted on the county website with the answers. In fact, if there is a FOIA request you should start asking “Why is this information not on the King William County Website?”. I was told by one candidate the information for most questions can be found on other sources – hence – Why is it not on the county website? Transparency is the tool that keeps corruption and incompetence in check. What changes to the website will you insist on?
5. Parental Rights have been under attack. In March and April of this year at the Public Comment Period during the Board of Supervisors Meetings many citizens requested that the books be age rated with a quick visual guide for parents whose children check out the books, like the ratings movies carry. Mr. Tom Shepley (Pamunkey Regional Library Director) told the BOS rating is not done at the local level and rated at the provider level. This request for age rating the books was turned down by the current Board. What are your plans to support and address the weakening of Parental Rights on this issue and school policies that conflict with parental rights?
6. When a Commonwealth Attorney chooses to stop doing their job as we have seen in other areas of our state – How do you plan on addressing this?
I hope this gives you some ideas on the type of questions you might like to ask. The freedoms you save may be your own.
Sincerely,
Paul Jamerson

Dear Editor,
Subject: “Pamunkey Regional Library”
The “Pamunkey Regional Library” seems to be in trouble. At two different “King William Board of Supervisors’ Regular Meetings” (March and April it was a topic)
In the March meeting local citizens expressed a concern felt by a majority of the citizens in the counties that make up and use the Pamunkey Regional Library locations - their concerns were not being address. The library provides their service to all ages. The opinions represented were for the books to be age rated with a quick visual guide for parents whose children check out the books. (Like the ratings movies carry) Mr. Tom Shepley (Pamunkey Regional Library Director) told the BOS rating is not done at the local level and rated at the provider level.
In the April meeting the King and Queen County Administer and a BOS member told the KW BOS they were pulling out of the “Pamunkey Regional Library “system and giving notice. The main take away was they had a better use for the money and building currently in use.
I have been told the county is planning on spending $4,000,000.00 for a new library building. The question I have is just how much use would the new library get and where would it be located?
At the Website - Library Technology Guides (https://librarytechnology.org/libraries/imls/6592) there is a table that shows from 2006 to 2020 the population of the usage area of the 10 Branches going up and the registered borrowers going down.
Register Borrowers decreased 39% (from 101,671 in 2011 to 61,577 in 2020)
The visits decreased 54% (from 881,126 in 2010 to 403,039 in 2020)
The above numbers do not show any growth or new need.
In 2020 Atlantic Broadband (Breezeline now) starting building a high-speed fiber network in the county and it is still growing. Cell phone Companies are moving or have moved to 5G networks. Both have options the library used to fill. What is the level of use the 2 libraries (Central Garage and West Point) have today compared to 2019?
I think a much better use of money and personnel would be to leave the “Pamunkey Regional Library” system and expand the digital library services we now have or create it using the libraries that are in our school system.
If found practical - another option would be to create a library based on local need as shown from past use - using the existing county facilities.
This should give the county local control on content and provide a way to have age rated material with a quick visual guide for parents whose children check out books. (Digital or hard copy)
When was the last time You walked into the library, or did you go online?
Sincerely,
Paul Jamerson

FOIA Research Uncovers the Board Acts and Believes They are Above the Law
King William, Virginia; February 24, 2023 - FOIA research has been conducted in response to concerns raised by King William County business and community leaders over actions taken by the current King William Board of Supervisors (KW BOS) and their administration. An assessment of this research found the Board and their Administration have created a lack of transparency to cover up their failed policies and continue to mismanage county operations.
The KW BOS and their administration violated the law governing FOIA by ignoring statutory deadlines, failing to respond completely to requests and making the decision to hide information from public scrutiny. The FOIA research also shows the covert attempt of a hostile takeover of certain Constitutional Offices. The KW BOS and its Administration have created an inhospitable work environment and unneeded turnover in offices critical to the needs of the taxpayers of King William County. The actions of this Board have resulted in 3 County Administrators, 4 Treasurers, and 2 Commissioners of the Revenue in the past 4 years.
More troubling are the responses to FOIA requests by the KW BOS and its Administration regarding the finances of King William County. The research shows the inability to properly reconcile the books in the financial software even while staffers make public statements to the contrary.
The attacks on the constitutional offices by the KW BOS are clearly shown by their efforts to circumvent the defined process in the Code of Virginia and requesting a Judge to break his Constitutional Oath and not follow the law against the advice of their County Attorney. When this effort failed, they began a punitive process to remove resources from the interim Treasurer’s office resulting in a breach of their fiduciary duty to their constituents.
The consistent themes of mismanagement and the lack of transparency in the operation of King William County create a detriment to the taxpayers. Each of these board members took an oath to uphold the Constitution and laws of Virginia and the people of King William deserve representatives to be held accountable for their actions.
The request to make a public presentation of these findings was denied by the KW BOS in their continued efforts to try and silence the citizens. Therefore, on Monday, February 27, at the regular meeting of KW BOS, several King William County business and community leaders will be providing details in support of these findings in the public comment section of the meeting.

I have been the elected chairman of the local TEA Party since the Fall of 2022. We are greatly concerned with the direction our country/county is heading, hence my involvement with this honorable group of concerned citizens.
We as Americans have lost our vision and sense of pride. This great nation was founded upon the Holy Scriptures and the implementation throughout the lives of its citizens. We are like a great ship that has lost its rudder….. set adrift from our mooring.
John Adams, the second president of our United States stated, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” Until we accept, embrace, and return to our founding we will fail. We must be brave enough to speak the truth in love to correct the direction of our country/county. Facts not feelings will lead us.
Come and hear from our guest speaker Ken Peterson:
Ken is fast becoming a trusted advisor who cast a brave vision for Goochland County over 10 years ago and revolutionized its local government. We will be using Ken’s successful vision as outlined in his published work, “The Goochland Revolution” here in King William. It is a vision of fiscal and personal responsibility that necessitates the involvement of all in this county that are fed up with the status quo. We cannot accomplish this without your grassroots involvement. Come and be prepared to get involved to enact positive change this November 2023 election. This is a multi-year vision. We cannot do this without your help. We are your servant leaders.

The story behind the Christmas movie "It's a Wonderful Life" begins with one Philip Van Doren Stern, who worked for years on a tale called “The Greatest Gift.” Like many writers, Stern couldn’t find a publisher, so he decided to publish it himself in 1943 and sent it to 200 friends as a Christmas card in 1943.
Turns out one of those friends knew someone at RKO pictures, and the following year, he offered Stern $10,000 for the movie rights. Two years later, "The Greatest Gift" hit the big screen as "It's a Wonderful Life."
But it wasn't until 2012 that the original manuscript turned up in a collection of Stern’s papers held in Special Collections and University Archives at the University of Oregon. Manuscripts Librarian Linda Long found drafts of the Stern's original story among thousands of pages of other writings, according to the University of Oregon library blog.
“The many drafts of ‘The Greatest Gift’ illustrate how hard writers have to work to craft their material,” Long says. “Even then, it was Stern’s story line, rather than the writing itself, that won him eventual success. The manuscript demonstrates how well-known movies often have obscure literary sources that aren’t themselves commercial successes, which makes cinema history all the more interesting.”
The manuscript might have gone undiscovered had it not been for a grant the UO Libraries received from the NHPRC to assist seven colleges in Oregon and Washington with archival program development and to make their collections known to researchers through the Northwest Digital Archives.
