How long does it take a rooster to empty out?
Scientifically 5-12 hours depending on all sorts of factors, Mike Ratliff always taught to the best of my memory point would engage 4-5 hours after his last dropping and that gave you a four hour window then you had to hold point every 2 hours to keep them from going over
"According to Browne's report, oats fed when the crop is empty appear in the f***s within 5 to 6 hours, the time varying usually not more than an hour. The crop filled with oats empties within 18 to 20 hours. An entire meal of oats is passed within 27 to 28 hours. In two experi- ments in which birds were killed 20 and 10 minutes after they had begim to eat oats, a few oat grains were found in the gizzard. Re- tention of feed in the crop varies with the amount consumed, the more fluid portions passing out first. Liquids do not pass entirely through at once, although some portion passes immediately into the intestine. Liquids are not retained in the gizzard."
I'd like to point out some facts about this, in almost all circumstances if the bird is feed an appropriate amount based on size and being feed 2 times a day you stop feeding ruffly 24 hours before the show. Now there are many factors and exceptions, I have read thousands of scientific studies and reports on this over the years to make sure what I do and tell people is right. Some such exceptions are as follows:
1) a bird over feed or feed one time a days system will not work right and can take 24-48 hours to get empty depending on many factors
2) a bird over wet will dump faster when feed the right amount based on body weight and feed type but retain a lot of moster and not point
3) a bird to dry will empty slow and may take as long as an over feed bird, when such a bird cuts he will hit with the bottom of his feed, you see this alot with people doing American style and go to a drag with neither bird severely touched.
4) high or low humidity can speed it or slow it but effects your moster and point. One needs to learn how to work with the humidity which is always trial and error
5) feed mixes and sodium have higher impacts then you would think, grains come out slower then pellets
6) birds that don't have a proper granite grite prose's grains slower then one with a proper grit
7) all the science studies I have read is of only healthy birds so desis parrisites and other things effect this as well
8) I know there stuff I have missed or don't know about, hope this helps someone
