“And how do you know that you're mad?
"To begin with," said the Cat, "a dog's not mad. You grant that?"
"I suppose so," said Alice.
"Well then," the Cat went on, "you see a dog growls when it's angry, and wags it's tail when it's pleased. Now I growl when I'm pleased, and wag my tail when I'm angry. Therefore I'm mad.”
― Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass
"Fantasy is a tool of the storyteller. It is a way of talking about things that are not, and cannot be, literally true. It is a way of making our metaphors concrete, and it shades into myth in one direction, allegory in another." ~Neil Gaiman

She'd been there for years and years, under the earth and waiting. Keeping herself quiet and curled wasn’t easy, all jagged fur and cruel teeth and half-open yellow eyes. She slept, and waited.
The night was thick and heavy, the dark pressed close at the carriage windows, and they looked out with fear in their hearts. She felt them rumbling along the road above, so close. She climbed, faster and faster, she smelt them, so close, delicious, delicious…
The carriage screamed to a halt, and they saw her on the road.
"Delicious, delicious… oh let me come in…”
