Dear Doctor,
During my recent annual exam at my OB/GYN they asked me to come back for an “endometrial biopsy.” I have always had normal results and was never asked to return for any sort of follow-up appointment, and I am worried. What is an endometrial biopsy? Why do I need to have one? How do I prepare? Will it hurt? I don’t know what a biopsy is. I am worried–why are they asking me to come back? What happens during an endometrial biopsy? Will it hurt?

The menstrual cycle is a complex process involving several distinct phases, each crucial to your reproductive health. Your cycle lasts from the first day of your period to the day before your next period. The length of time can vary from person to person, but on average, it’s between 25-30 days, with a median cycle length of 28 days. There are three phases of a menstrual cycle:
*The Follicular or Proliferative Phase * Ovulation * The Luteal or Secretory Phase

More people recognize the importance of a strong pelvic floor for overall health. The pelvic floor muscles support vital organs like the bladder, uterus, and re**um while contributing to core stability, urinary continence, and s*xual health. If pelvic floor dysfunction is left unaddressed, it can cause a range of issues, from mild discomfort to significant and potentially embarrassing disruptions in daily life. Additionally, a strong pelvic floor enhances s*xual health and satisfaction and can help alleviate pain or discomfort during in*******se. For many women, especially those who are pregnant, postpartum, or entering menopause, strengthening the pelvic floor is vital for long-term health and comfort. Learn more on our Blog Page:

Pregnancy ultrasounds are a large part of women’s obstetrics healthcare. Ultrasounds have been used since the 1970s to track babies’ and mothers’ development and health conditions. Your provider at Genesis OBGYN will perform the ultrasounds you need as part of your pregnancy journey. An ultrasound is a type of test that uses sound waves to create an image of your baby while it’s still in the womb.
Why Are Ultrasounds Important During Pregnancy?
Ultrasounds are one of the tools that help your provider monitor your fetus’s growth and overall health. Routine prenatal ultrasounds allow your provider to examine:
Your baby’s heart
Your baby’s head and brain
Your baby’s s*x
Placenta and umbilical cord placement
Fetal ultrasounds can also serve as a diagnostic tool. Your provider can detect potential complications or medical conditions during an ultrasound. If your provider notices anything that needs additional attention, they will let you know and schedule follow-up tests or a 3D ultrasound. We are here to help you manage potential health conditions for you and your child.
If you are pregnant, you can schedule regular ultrasounds at Genesis OBGYN. Our providers will tell you what to expect and how to prepare for your ultrasound appointment. Contact us today.
Pregnancy causes many changes in your body, including aches and pains–some we’re prepared for and others not. While we often hear about lower back pain, coccyx pain during pregnancy is also pretty common. The coccyx is the medical term for your tailbone, which starts at the base of your spine and ends right above your buttock. Tailbone pain is called Coccydynia, and a few physical changes during pregnancy can ramp up that pain.
There are a few things you can do to relieve tailbone pain:
Stretch or try yoga: Even without the added pressure of the growing baby, sitting for long periods can cause the coccyx to get tight. A daily stretching or yoga practice can be a great way to get some relief
Use ice or heat: You can use either heat or ice as a topical treatment to dull the pain
Use a special pillow: Pregnancy or body pillows are just this purpose–they can help reposition your body to take some pressure off of your tailbone.
f you have further questions about pregnancy aches or pains, contact your Genesis OB/GYN and request an appointment today.
All Genesis OBGYN care centers will be closed on July 4th, 2024. Have a great holiday and be safe!
When you can start working out after giving birth depends on a few factors, including how your labor and delivery experience went and whether or not you feel up to it.
If you had a vaginal birth with little to no complications, as long as you have the green light from your doctor and you feel physically up to exercising, you can engage in light postnatal exercises immediately after giving birth. I wouldn’t recommend anything too strenuous, such as heavy weight lifting or long-distance running right off the bat–give yourself time to increase intensity and duration based on how you feel.
If you had a vaginal birth with complications like vaginal tearing, depending on the severity of the tearing, you may need a few weeks to heal properly. Do NOT try to return to exercise or any other physical activity until your doctor says it is OK; you do not want to risk further injury.
Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to exercise postpartum if you had a c-section–in fact, walking a day or two after delivery can help boost circulation. But you shouldn’t attempt anything beyond walking until at least six weeks after your c-section.
The most important thing to remember is to speak with your healthcare provider before attempting any physical activity. Also, give yourself proper time to rest, heal, and enjoy your new family addition. Giving birth isn’t easy, so don’t try to force yourself to return to exercise too soon–what matters most is how you feel.
We are excited to announce: Harmony Genesis OBGYN will be moving on 7/1/2024 to a new location at 6452 E Carondelet Dr, Ste 100. It is located right accross the street from our current location.
While your annual well-woman exam may seem like just another task on your endless to-do list, you must make time for this doctor’s visit for many reasons.
You may be surprised to learn that a well-woman visit entails more than a pap smear (though that is an essential component). Think of this as a preventative measure. During the visit, your healthcare provider will check your breasts, ask questions about your menstrual cycle, and recommend what screenings you should get based on your personal and family medical history. This is critical because prevention and early detection of anything will provide the best outcomes. By attending your annual exam, you are advocating for your health.

Irregular periods, hot flashes and irritability–we often associate these uncomfortable symptoms with menopause, but they can also indicate that you have entered the perimenopausal stage.
Although menopause may be a few years away, perimenopause is a part of the transition and often has the same symptoms as menopause, as they both signify a change in your body’s hormones. Additionally, because perimenopause isn’t as well-defined as menopause, you might not be aware that the physical and emotional changes you’re experiencing may be related to this process. Knowing what to expect can help you identify and understand these changes, and a Genesis OBGYN provider can help you navigate this new phase in your life.

The celebration of Father’s Day reminds us of both the importance and the challenges of fatherhood. Fathers don’t always enjoy the glow of intimacy and admiration we give our mothers. Indeed, fathers have the cultural image of breadwinner, disciplinarian, authority figure. When you were growing up, how often did you hear your mother say, “just wait until your father gets home!” Traditionally, our culture has often put fathers into a very difficult role.
Celebrate your dads!
Give them all the LOVE!

Rainbows, remembrance, and reflection mark Pride Month. One of the most colorful celebrations in June, this recognition traces its roots to the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. A significant historical point in LGBTQ+ history, New York City marked the first anniversary with a Pride march. From there, “Gay Pride Day” became a week and then, in 1994, a month. Memorials are held this month to recognize members of the LGTBQ+ community lost to hate crimes and HIV/AIDS and celebrations are held to recognize community members’ impact on history.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.
Since its inception in 1949, Mental Health Awareness Month has been a cornerstone of addressing the challenges faced by millions of Americans living with mental health conditions. When you take care of your mental health, your physical and emotional health improves; you become more resilient; and it makes it easier to find ways to manage life stressors in a healthy and positive way. When it comes to mental wellness, small actions can have a big impact. During Mental Health Awareness Month, do something kind for others: hold the door open for someone; give a compliment; pay someone else’s kindness forward. See how these small acts boost your mental health and have the added bonus of likely making a positive impact on others.
A mother should be celebrated every day, not just one day a year. They’re our first teachers, who teach us valuable life lessons like kindness, unconditional love, and provide support, comfort, and guidance throughout our lives. No amount of gratitude can fully repay them for all they do. From cooking us delicious meals to wiping away our tears, mothers do it all. Your mom is perhaps the most pivotal person in your life. This Mother's Day show her love, honour her, and say a little “I love you” with a tight hug. If your mom is no longer with you but in a heavenly home think of all the good memories you have of her and how she loved you so dearly.
Happy Mother's Day to all the incredible Moms out there!
