Wow

So about last night...

This is just a quick edit, but the Northern Lights were out in style late last night (or early this morning). I spent a few hours in the Flint Hills capturing a few locations. This is one of my favorites, as I got lucky with a Lyrid meteor that photo bombed the left side of the photo. The last time I shot the aurora in Kansas, I couldn't actually see them with my eyes, but the camera picked up the faint glow to the north. This time, I could faintly see the pillars of light, especially where the greens were. There was a definitive glow on the horizon. I even shot a small fire with the auroa behind it as some leftover burns were finishing up. I'll post more in a day or two when I have time to edit them. Hopefully some of you made it out to witness this!

Our hearts go out to the families afflicted and communities devasted by this morning’s floods. Because, out here, we’re all affected one way or another — and because we want our local talent to have every chance to participate in our logo contest — we are extending our contest deadline by one day!

Monday around 10pm is the final deadline to submit initial sketches at 99designs.com. Then we will select several finalists to move forward with their work. So, sign up and jump into the fray —

Trail Hike at Plainville Township Lake is coming up in a couple days. If you click on the event and let us know if you’re coming or even interested, it helps greatly with sponsorship and planning other events!

A few people have asked where the Shawnee Scout Camp is located. It’s on the north side of the lake, and it’s the eastern-most pull in on the north side.

— after crossing Lake Road, go east another couple hundred yards, until you see the goats on the north. It’s the small enclosed area on the south.

You should see other vehicles and other hikers signing in and getting coffee and snacks.

Weather is supposed to be warm, and critters may be active. I advise closed-toe shoes at minimum.

See you there!
