Flower Club, Week 1
Today we learned about a few mechanics of arranging fresh flowers. We used floral tape to guide us, space stems and give our bouquet some support & dimension.
All contents of the arrangements are thoughtfully planned to enhance our senses. Today, the dill and apple mint provided our scent with a fun thrill. Nate thought the dill looked like an umbrella that smelt like a pickle. Lana was reminded of a firework from the dill.
Join us for our next Flower Club next Tuesday, 7/30 at 9am at Otsego Prairie Center.
Tag a friend to join you. All ages and abilities welcome! Kids and adults too! ☺️

First big harvest of tulips for the season at Twin Root.
Tulips have always been one of my favorite flowers; maybe because they usually bloom in May & it’s also my birthday month.
They are the first bright and colorful reminder of the beauty to come in the summer.
Here at Twin Root the majority of our tulips are ‘not your grocery store tulips’ they are fancy. My favorite, therefore we grow the most, are the double tulip variety. They almost look like a peony when fully opened.
Do you have a favorite color or variety of tulips? 🌷
🌷🌷🌷 Mother’s Day tulip bouquets are available on the website now! I am sure that our fancy tulips are sure to bring a smile and so much JOY to a special person! Choose from two sizes, standard or deluxe, & a wrapped bouquet or add on a vase. 🌷🌷🌷

Dahlias.
Oh how they capture my heart. Oh how they are yet also an art I have yet to perfect. I am learning, but have so much yet to learn.
The first year I grew 10-15 plants and they captured my love. I failed at winter tuber storage & they all froze & ended yup in the compost.
The second year I made a new garden plot for them & they didn’t produce well at all as the field was not full sun. My tubers also froze over the winter.
The third year I grew them in full sun, watered often, fed with bone meal, cut deep and thankfully for a late fall frost I had beautiful dahlias. The verdict is still out if my tubers will make it through the winter.
I am still in love with these dahlias even though they require a lot of work. Plant, water, feed, harvest, dig, clean, divide and store tubers.
Do you love dahlias?
Hello & thanks for following along on our journey here at Twin Root Farm. I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself & our farm if you’re new here.
👩🌾 I’m Ellie, the farmer here. I’m often not harvesting zinnias in a dress. I’m more often out with my headlamp harvesting early in the morning or late at night. 😆
👨👩👦👧👦 My family is very much apart of running the farm also. My husband helps fix all the things, encourages me to keep dreaming and chasing them & he is my muscles. My oldest son loves to help with anything that invloves an engine. He does the mowing, w**d whipping, hauling compost or soil, moving the farm stand, he also helps babysit his siblings at times. My daughter loves to help with the seed starting, she helps process flowers by stripping, sorting, bunching and is beginning to help with arrangements. My youngest son helps entertain me in the garden, and is always thinking up a new business idea. Together we make up Twin Root Farm staff. ☺️

In the month of March I am going to share more about of farm, our business and our dreams. I’d love for you to follow along!
Today was a beautiful sunny afternoon to enjoy an enrichment class with 6 wonderful ladies at Guardian Angels Care Center in Elk River.
For each enrichment workshop I carefully choose a variety of foliage, filler and focal flowers that will add textures, scents, colors to enhance the workshop. Often I use herbs and many different textures of flowers.
Flower enrichment classes allow senior residents to experience the smells, textures and beauty that the flowers offer. All while allowing independence & choice with design and color choices.
I love how the same set of flowers can look so different in each person’s bouquet. Most of all I love the joy that each resident experiences through the workshop.
Today we used:
- baby blue eucalyptus
- cress
- rosemary
- feverfew
- scabosia
- pom button
- snapdragon
- carnation
- tulip
And just like in this photo, when I have extra flowers I make sure to drop off a bouquet to Ramona. ❤️

December flower enrichment at Guardian Angels senior resident living.
I absolutely love the joy, peace and comfort that flowers can bring. I want to share a story from this afternoon residents from only one wing were able to join. Our group was a little smaller then usual & there was one new gentleman who joined us. He was hesitant to join, but his daughter was visiting and encouraged him to give it a try. He wasn’t excited about it and rolled his eyes at her. As we got started he wanted to hold the white pine sprigs, smell the eucalyptus & each flower he added to his bouquet. By the end of the session his body was calmed down and his hands full of the pine scraps that he just loved the smell of. His daughter told a story about the hundreds and likely even thousands of pine trees that her dad had planted over the years on his property.
Oh the JOY that these blooms brought today! 🎄
