New Year, New Us!

Dear Community,

We have decided to rebrand to be more inclusive of surrounding AAPI neighborhoods and communities.

2021: ReviveSFChinatown has brought people back into Chinatown by patronizing the businesses during the pandemic. We’ve developed strong ties with each other, the business owners, the locals and Chinatown leaders and activists. It’s safe to say we’ve left our mark in this historical space. We will continue to be present in Chinatown and strengthen our relationship with the community.

2022: We’re committed to the growth of our movement and hope to bring our energy to the SUNSET, the RICHMOND, VISITACION VALLEY and Ocean Ave.

“Dear Community” is a letter to our beloved AAPI family. It represents our dreams, hopes and visions for our community. We are taking charge of our own narrative and you can be a part of this story.

Sincerely,
Dear Community Family

We can’t do this without you- Follow our new ig page, come to an event and tell a friend!
(we will still be responding to dms and comments on the ReviveSFChinatown account and gmail in the upcoming month)

Dear Community,

To keep everyone safe from Omicron, we decided that it’s best to cancel this event. However, businesses are suffering from the lack of holiday traffic combined with the new variant. If you can do so safely, we’d encourage you to stop by a Chinatown bar with one or two friends and help them keep their doors open. ♥️ Stay tuned for an announcement from us on the 1st of 2022- Happy New Year! 🎊

Teaser trailer of Chinatown Supper Together 3 💗

It’s raining 🌧 in San Francisco right now.

Chinatown Supper Together 3

On this day we braved the rain and anticipated the worst- that no one would show up and we’d have to eat 30+ people’s worth of food split between our 10 person person team (ok, maybe that would’ve been the the silver lining)

But we still hoped for the best and showed up early at Reds in high spirits. Then the emails of cancellation came trickling in. We got nervous, but the pre-event excitement still rang through. Then one by one, the attendees started coming in, shaking off the rain and smiling because they were happy to finally be indoors.

We spent the day walking through the brewing storm from stop to stop and huddling in the various spaces of Chinatown. Did you know that laughter warms you up? The energy, genuine curiosity and positive attitude made this Chinatown Supper Together one of our best yet. What a superstar group of attendees and volunteers. 10/24- the day community prevailed! Take that, rain.

Agenda

- Painted Peking opera masks at reds with spring rolls from Golden Star
- Presentation and Magic Girl showroom tour at Clarion followed accompanied by mochi balls from Broadway Dim Sum and tea from Vital Tea
- Dinner at Hunan House
- Performance by Hennessy Williams

Thank you for coming out just for us. Thank you, Reds, for continuously being our saving grace- rain or shine 💗

And Chinatown? 我爱你❤️

Excited fo share with everyone our next event with Chinese Historical Society of America. Founded in 1963, CHSA’s mission is to preserve and share Chinese American history through public exhibitions and educational programs.

Program description:

CHSA presents Vinyl from the Vault, a virtual audio tour of our archival collection of vinyl records that explore the ways in which racism saturates every aspect of American life, including popular music. Sound is a powerful visual medium in how we contextualize, understand, and engage with others, and we often forget how it impacts us. But through this racialized landscape, Chinese Americans have had to figure out ways to create spaces to challenge those types of stereotypes by literally being on the stage, singing, dancing, and performing in ways that subvert the racial politics of the time. We will be examining early-20th century Orientalist music and the roots of the creation of otherness in American popular culture.

Join us for an online listening party streamed via Twitch, on Fault Radio's channel, with a live presentation by Krystyn R. Moon, author of Yellowface: Creating the Chinese in American Popular Music and Performance, 1850s-1920s. Afterward, there will be music played by a live DJ, turning our listening party into a virtual dance party!

Program schedule:
6-7pm talk with author Krystyn R. Moon
7-9pm happy hour with music from DJ Microtone of KALX FM

To tune in to this free event, please email or DM us for the Twitch link.

This program is a collaboration with Fault Radio and in partnership with Revive SF Chinatown.

Asian Political Club Mixer from last night hosted by Brian Quan of CADC.

“The Chinese American Democratic Club is committing to rebuilding an AAPI coalition to advance AAPI issues, equity, and access in SF.”

Thank you Chinese American Democratic Club for giving us a chance to share and spread the word about our movement and mission on how to revitalize SF Chinatown.

It was an honor to meet members Ed Lee Democratic Club, Rose Pak Democratic Club, Richmond District Democratic Club, and SWANA (South West Asian North African) Democratic Club and learn about what these young activists are working on to combat AAPI hate.
