Maverick wrestling tribe- I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Steve Arnold and I am excited to be the new head coach for Maverick wrestling next year. I’ve included a shot of my mug so you can recognize me when we meet.

In my first act as coach, I’d like to recognize some athletes that went the extra mile this weekend. Bella Soto, Alex Little and Xavier Saffer went to Kansas this weekend for the Southern Plains Regional Championships. I promise you- being willing to leave the state to seek out tough competition is one of the things that builds greatness! I admire the grit of these three athletes. Good job.

Wrestling is on Tuesday, May 14th at 4:30 pm.

TONIGHT AND TOMORROW NIGHT are the Southside Wrestling “tryouts”! Must have a sports physical form or be involved with another sport to tryout. Come out to the Wrestling room (East Shelter) at 5-6 pm!

Tryout reminder 🚨 Next Monday and Tuesday will be the tryouts for Southside Wrestling, from 5 to 6 pm! Make sure to bring a physical and athletic clothes!

Southside sent 6 wrestlers to the 2024 Arkansas Freestyle/Greco State Tournament and came away with ALL 6 earning their way onto the Arkansas National Team!

and a post for our only senior this season! Nevada has been with the team since her sophomore year, and is a State Qualifier and State Placer. She is a hard worker, and showed her potential many times through the season. Most of all, she’s a great person, and universally loved by the coaching staff and her teachers!

Nevada’s defining moment in her career will always be escaping the end of her season at Regionals and battling back for a qualifying bid at State!

Good luck to our local youth club, Spartan Wrestling Academy, this weekend at the 2024 Youth State Tournament! 🤼‍♂️

comes home with 3 state medalists! These ladies were the example of hard, gritty, and winning wrestling and it led them to the history books. Adversity hit the young team early, but they were too mentally tough to be denied! The coaches are very proud of their medalists, and are ready to keep pushing a culture and begin work for next season! 🤼‍♀️

Day 2 of the State Tournament, history is made on days like this… especially for the Lady Mavs!

All 3 girls will wrestle for 3rd place today. They will be the FIRST EVER girl’s state medalists at Southside High School, and Isabella Soto will be the FIRST EVER freshman state medalist from Southside! 🤼‍♀️

Day 1 results:

• returns ALL 3 of our Lady Mavs (Paiges Arsola, Isabella Soto, Nevada Berry) to day 2 and they will wrestle for 3rd place tomorrow! 🤼‍♀️
• Neko Pizana fights hard through the day but comes up short of medaling

Highlight of the night: Isabella Soto, the freshman, avenges 3 season losses and upsets Turpin of Bentonville West by a 5-2 decision in the blood round!!!!

Nevada Berry (155) advances to the state semi-finals with her teammate Paiges with a 3rd round pin fall! Boys will be next, so we will be waiting on Neko Pizana!

Isabella Soto (130) falls in the quarterfinals and will wrestle in the consolations for a chance at 3rd place.

Paiges Arsola (125) advances to the semi-finals by pinfall in the second round!!

The Mavs are ready for the 16th annual ARKANSAS STATE WRESTLING TOURNAMENT!
