Diabetic Retinopathy occurs when blood vessels in the retina (inside back part of the eye) swell, leak or close off. Sometimes abnormal blood vessels grow on the surface of the retina. The disease is usually symptomless until it causes these type of changes which affect vision and can lead to blindness. Controlling blood sugar and blood pressure are important along with regular eye exams.
November is Diabetes Awareness Month. Too much glucose in the blood for a long time can damage the heart, kidneys and blood vessels including the small blood vessels in the eye. It's estimated that 90% of vision loss from diabetes can be prevented. Don't wait for changes in your vision before having your eyes checked. Early detection is critical.
November is National Diabetes Awareness Month. Diabetic eye disease is a leading cause of blindness, often with no warning signs. Regular annual eye exams are especially important for people who have diabetes, are pre-diabetic or have a family history of diabetes. Timely treatment and follow-up can save sight.

Good vision and learning go hand in hand. Undetected vision-related learning problems can impact performance, reading, comprehension, grades and self-esteem. An annual eye exam can help detect underlying issues that may affect a child's school performance.
When it comes to wearing contacts, healthy habits mean healthy eyes. Follow these tips to help prevent eye infections.
It may be tempting to over wear your contact lenses to save money but it's not a good idea. Re-wearing contact lenses that are designed as daily disposables, or extending your weekly or monthly contact lenses beyond your wearing schedule can lead to serious issues. Neglecting proper cleaning and hygiene can lead to vision-threatening eye infections. It's essential to be vigilant about hygiene to protect your eye health.
Fall seasonal allergies can really affect the eyes. Itching, burning and tearing can become more than a nuisance. Ask about allergy solutions at your next eye exam.
