Had a fantastic time at the Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce's Annual State Representatives Luncheon!
Together with my colleagues and community organizations, we discussed and celebrated the work being done in the . It was great to hear from HWM Chair State Representative Aaron Michlewitz — who led us through the passage of our 2025 state budget, which will strengthen and support our local economy, small businesses, and workers.
Thank you to Joseph and Michael from Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce for a great event.

Thank you to Speaker Ron Mariano and House Ways and Means Chair State Representative Aaron Michlewitz for leading us through the fiscal year 2025 state budget process.
Friday, we enacted a $58 billion budget that delivers historic investments in every level of education, transportation, regional equity, workforce development, healthcare, and more. The budget reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering on affordability and economic competitiveness for our constituents and the Commonwealth.
This week, the House and Senate finalized the most significant gun reform package our state has seen in the last decade—one that prioritizes the safety of our communities. This historic legislation cracks down on the creation and sale of untraceable ghost guns; prohibits the carrying of guns in schools, government buildings, and polling places; and strengthens the Commonwealth's red flag laws.
I am excited that it includes a provision from my Harassment Prevention Order (HPO) legislation, which I co-championed with State Representative Natalie Higgins and Senator Robyn Kennedy, to protect harassment, stalking, and sexual assault survivors.
I am very grateful to Speaker Ron Mariano, HWM Chair State Representative Aaron Michlewitz, and Judiciary Chair State Representative Michael Day, for a thoughtful and deliberate months-long process that allowed for the public and experts to contribute to this well-informed bill. It is now on the Governor's desk for her signature.
Clean energy can't wait.
Last night, I joined my House colleagues to pass a climate bill that makes great strides to accelerate Massachusetts' clean energy transition and build a more climate-resilient future.
This legislation builds on our recent climate wins, which include the 2050 Roadmap, Public Lands Preservation Act, Clean Energy and Offshore Wind Act, Transportation Resources and Climate Bill, and other funding bills. Thank you to Speaker Ron Mariano, HWM Chair State Representative Aaron Michlewitz, and TUE Chair State Rep Jeff Roy for your leadership.
It was wonderful to meet with more than 30 residents at the Clubhouse at Riverside Woods in Andover to answer questions about the issues that most concern them. Thank you so much to Sue Wartman, Al Timm & Steve Fink for organizing this get together. Our conversation ranged from education to artificial intellgence to housing to healthcare. We covered a lot of ground! Talking and connecting over our shared priorities is the best way for us to break down barriers and come together as a community.
I was glad to host college seniors from schools around the country who are in a highly selective summer program at Harvard Kennedy School. They're in a 7-week intensive public policy incubator taught by the illustrious Setti Warren, Director of the Institute of Politics at Harvard Kennedy School. Only 15 students were accepted out of 13,000 applicants!
This program gives them a head start on Master's level public policy studies and capstone project that they can build on in their future work. My HKS classmate Andy Paul and Harvard MPP student Mariana Canet are helping to run the program. I was happy to catch up with another classmate, Anis, who also joined. It was great having them here to learn about our historic Massachusetts State House and the vital work we do daily at the state level to help people across our great Commonwealth.
Yesterday’s unconscionable and hateful shooting occurred while I’m at a weekend conference bringing together Democratic and Republican leaders from across the nation to overcome political polarization and move our country forward. As I'm sure many of you are doing the same, I am still processing the situation, but here are my initial thoughts.
📣 Exciting news--we're hiring! Take a look and please share widely: http://www.mawomenscaucus.com/
As a proud union member and supporter, I was happy to speak to the North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters (NASRCC) at their monthly meeting this evening.
The union community is such a central part of our communities. I value any opportunity to connect with members and leaders around our shared priorities of supporting working families.
I am so proud to be a part of the Emerge Massachusetts sisterhood and to stand among these incredible women. Thank you for the Woman of the Year award.

Beginning Thursday, August 1, contactless payments will be accepted onboard buses, Green Line trolleys, and at all gated subway stations. This is part of the MBTA’s goal of offering easier, more convenient, and modernized ways for riders to pay fares.
Contactless payment options provide better flexibility and allow riders to pay by tapping a contactless credit/debit card, phone with a mobile wallet, or watch on fare readers on buses, on Green Line vehicles, and at all gated subway stations. A one-step option for pay-as-you-go travel, riders can save time by using their contactless credit/debit card, phone, or watch instead of purchasing and reloading a CharlieCard. Riders can look for the contactless symbol, tap their card or device on the reader at the fare gate or the reader at the vehicle door, wait for the green checkmark, then ride. Riders with weekly or monthly passes or those who would like to continue to use their CharlieCards will not be impacted by the change. The current ways to pay will remain the same.
Riders in reduced fare programs (such as Senior, Student, and TAP) will have the option to link their benefits to their contactless card, phone, or watch. Riders who do not want to link their benefits to a contactless card, phone, or watch will be able to continue using their current payment method.
Riders will be able to manage their contactless cards, phone, and/or the watch they use for travel through an online Charlie account at Charlie.mbta.com, by calling the Customer Support Center at 617-222-3200, or by visiting the Charlie Service Center. A Charlie account allows riders to check their balance, manage their charges, view their trip history, and access other self-service tools for quick and easy account management. Registration is optional.

Black women in Massachusetts earn 57 cents for every dollar that a white, male worker earns.
Today, we recognize National Black Women's Equal Pay Day, raising awareness and fighting against harmful gender and racial wage gaps.
This session, I joined the Massachusetts House in voting for H.4109, An Act relative to salary range transparency. If signed into law, this bill will help to close these gaps by requiring employers to disclose the salary range when posting a position and reporting data to promote equal opportunity in the workforce.

Happy Islamic New Year to our Muslim friends and neighbors! Wishing peace and happiness to all who celebrate and a blessed Muharram.
This Independence Day is an opportunity to remember the ideals of our nation's founding. A land free from tyranny, where all are welcome and have the opportunity to pursue their dreams. For nearly 250 years, people have been making strides in the political process and courts towards realizing these promises.
It is not something we can ever take for granted. We have to keep going, with hope and resolve in our minds and our hearts. Progress is real and worth fighting for! This is not a moment to give up; this is when we dig in and redouble our efforts to lift up our nation to where it should be. We need to ask ourselves what we can do for our country and then work together to do that.

Last week, the House passed a comprehensive economic development bill, which builds on Governor Maura Healey's “Mass Leads Act.” This bill will invest in Massachusetts' local economies, small businesses, workforce, technology hubs, and much more.
There is a lot packed into this massive legislation, including major investments and tax credits in climate tech and life sciences. I was excited to vote in favor of this bill, which includes amendments I filed with my colleagues totaling up to $4,550,000 for our district.
Thank you to Speaker Mariano; HWM Chair State Representative Aaron Michlewitz; Rep. Jerry Parisella, Chair of the Economic Development and Emerging Technologies Committee; and Rep. Michael Finn, Chair of the Bonding, Capital Expenditures, and State Assets Committee, for their leadership on this bill.
This week, the Massachusetts House of Representatives passed crucial home equity legislation. I was a lead sponsor of the bill, and have been working on this issue with advocates and homeowners since being elected to office in 2018.

Today, the House unanimously passed a home equity bill that I have been working on since I was first elected to office. This legislation will stop entities that prey on vulnerable people, like seniors on fixed incomes and persons with disabilities, who fall behind on their property taxes and face risk of foreclosure.
Currently, these third party purchasers have no incentive to communicate clearly and effectively to homeowners to ensure that they understand their rights, including the right to pay all taxes due and stop the tax foreclosure. Instead they stay quiet in order to collect a a huge profit when the property is foreclosed in Land Court and sold away.
No one should gain a “windfall” profit - in a split second - by stealing every bit of equity that someone else has built over decades or a lifetime. That manipulation stops with this bill today. H.4791 ensures that clear, effective, and uniform notice will be given to homeowners in multiple languages. These consequential notices will convey the gravity and implications of nonpayment and how to remedy it.
I am very grateful to Speaker Ron Mariano, Chair Aaron Michlewitz, Chair Mark Cusack, Chair Jeff Roy, Rep. Tommy Vitolo, Chair John Mahoney, and all the advocates who worked on this.
Last week, I joined my House colleagues in passing comprehensive legislation to expand equitable access to maternal and birthing people's health care. It focuses on patient safety and incorporates recommendations from the Special Commission on Racial Inequities in Maternal Health.
Highlights of this omnibus bill include the creation of a professional licensure process for midwives and lactation consultants, encouraging more freestanding birth centers, improving education on pregnancy loss and perinatal mood disorders, establishing a task force on maternal health access and birthing patient safety, and requiring certain health care providers to perform, and health insurers to cover, postpartum depression screenings.
Thank you to Speaker Ron Mariano , Chair State Representative Aaron Michlewitz , Chair Marjorie Decker , and Chair John Lawn for leading on this bill. I am also grateful to colleagues and advocates for their hard work.

I enjoyed visiting the Sri Chinmaya Maruti Temple in with Meena Bharath from Asian American & Pacific Islanders Commission and Shova Sharma. It was an enriching experience of mindfulness, positivity, and peace. We appreciate Dr. Shashi Dwarakanath and the Priest for taking the time to show us the temple and explain their mission. The temple serves a large Hindu community in the Greater Andover region. We are fortunate to have many diverse communities living in Massachusetts.

As we mark World Oceans Day (June 8, 2024) and National Oceans Month, we reflect on the vital role our oceans play in sustaining life on Earth. Covering over 70% of our planet's surface, oceans regulate our climate, provide food, and support a rich diversity of life. Today, I urge all of us to recognize the profound impact that oceans have on our everyday lives and the need to protect these magnificent waters from pollution, overfishing, and other threats. Let's commit to safeguarding our oceans not only for our generation but for the generations to come🌊.
