It’s warm weather out and one creative way I like to do therapy is to have a “walking session” 🚶🏾‍♀️where clients and I walk together while doing talk therapy. This is helpful for the mental flow but also physical and emotional connection.

Our culture, or ethnicity to be specific DOES impact our identity and relationships. My own story and many of my ethnic minority clients can relate to needing work on boundaries, the blurring of following your own desire ( American concept) versus what your family thinks is best for you and honoring them ( minority culture concept). This is my niche- seeing my minority clients from all generations and helping them find their voice in a kind and respectful way! Christian counseling too as requested.

I hope you are on your journey of creating harmony by accepting all parts of you- the loud, the quiet, the shame, the depressed, the “swept under the rug”.

I am Alicia Cherian, the Founder, Owner, & Therapist at To Love & Be Loved Therapy Inc. Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist which basically means a Licensed Mental Health Professional highly trained to provide therapy to individuals, couples and families.

The name To Love & Be Loved Therapy came about because my life motto has been that everyone desires to be loved and when connected to their core self, each person can give love to themselves and others. I hope to continue to help each person coming into my practice accomplish their goals this way. UNIQUE: minority culture therapist, can provide faith infused counseling if desired, expert in relational and generational dynamics
THERAPEUTIC APPROACH:
I listen and help identify patterns from the past and present while creating space for the client’s story to truly understand the issue. I believe in using client-centered, and systemic approaches to see the whole of a person in the context of their relationships. I use Cognitive Behavioral, Solution Focused, Emotion Focused, Internal Family Systems, Strategic, Structural and Intergenerational modalities of therapy.

Some say being a marriage-therapist /LMFT should mean your own marriage is easy- 🧐not really. I’m human, he is human and I am definitely not OUR therapist. We get our own therapist once in awhile to help keep us healthy. There is NOTHING wrong with that! We encourage growth!

My person 💝. In the ups and downs we try to come back to our choice we made when we said I DO, that is to be on “one ☝️ team”. It ain’t easy but I’m choosing daily and thankful he does too.

Marriage takes a lot of work.

A good reminder that resurfaced from my old art work. I've been keeping this on my office desk. Love never gives up when working with individuals and couples in counseling. Providing hope in each session. Each session is "sacred holy ground" ( a colleague/ friend put it this way)that God provides to be an instrument of His work. Each of us want to BE LOVED and when healthy LOVE OTHERS. We can feel less isolated.

Peace. Feels like slim pickings these days right? As there is so much in our daily lives bombarding us TO REACT😤-stop- take a breath🧘. Remind yourself, no one has the power to take away my peace.

Take notice/think through: What is my reaction saying? What is it really about? The answers to these can lead you to HOW to protect your peace.💥✌

We have so many parts to us that are sending us various signals. First, what are those parts? As a South Asian I have that part, my upbringing and the voices of expectations, my marriage, my inner self, the traveling part, the part that feels like a bird and wants to explore. Even the angry and depressed parts at times. Some times getting to know the parts of yourself truly brings peace. Explore and acknowledge ALL OF YOU.

Roman had his eyes dilated today and the doctor said his vision will be blurry for the next 3-5 hours. When I delivered the update to my husband I added in my matter -of-fact voice "... so he wont be able to drive." And be believed me for a second. hahaha 😂 Also- we ate a book instead of reading it.
