Teemer’s return was short lasted. 1:15 into his match with Lockhaven’s Alderfer, he inj defaults with a concussion. I clipped together below the initial blow to Teemer’s head which was uncalled for, and then the moment that Teemer looked dazed and went out when he was hit in head again. It doesn’t look like the second hit to the head was really bad, which makes me think that the initial smack may have been catching up with him . With that being said, it looks like the last swipe to the head caught him on the lower part of the head/upper part of the neck. You can get hit just right there where it gives you a stinger. Alderfer…talk about one of those guys you wrestle in gym class who is really strong but really stiff and awkward and ends up injuring people that know what they were doing because of his awkwardness. Pi**es me off watching this because the Lock Haven wrestler got the victory and Lock Haven gets 6 team points and Teemer takes the loss. Plus Teemer vs Shapiro tomorrow seems highly unlikely now. The officials should’ve nailed the Lock Haven wrestler for that initial bash to the head in my opinion.
Update: Scratch that …this is why the sport struggles. Zona st did not send out Figueroa so no #1 vs #2 matchup today.
👎🏼💩

61kg Bouzakis bronze medal with two tech falls today. He lost to India 12-11 in quarters and India won gold.
65kg Mendez (Ohio St) loses 5-2 to Iran to take silver
70kg Meyer Shapiro (Cornell) wins Gold with a 11-6 win over Iran . What a battle that was. He went down 4-0 early but kept attacking. Has quite the gas tank on him.
74kg Mitchell Mesenbrink gold with a 16-5 win over Iran . He went 5-0 in the tourney with no match going the distance and only his final going past the break.
79kg Singleton takes Bronze with a 9-7 win
86kg Berge wrestling for Bronze next.
92kg Darrah 0-1 DNP (lost 4-3 was tied 3-3 with 4 seconds left and he missed the go ahead push out by about half second as time ran out).
97kg Mc Danel takes bronze with a 8-2 win
125kg Carroll got tech falled today and DNP going 1-2
So far USA has 2 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze
with 1 possible bronze left.
If Berge gets Bronze we would medal 8/10.
USA is 32-9 thus far
Gold Medal for Meyer Shapiro (Cornell)!
He wins 11-6 over Iran.
Mendez and Lilledahl take Silver
Singleton and Mc Danel take bronze
Summary
USA has 4 wrestling for Gold in the finals
57kg Lilledahl (today)
65kg Mendez (today)
70kg Shapiro (today)
74kg Mesenbrink (tomorrow)
USA has 2 wrestling for a bronze
79kg Singleton (today)
97kg Mc Danel (today)
USA has 3 in repache, all needing to win 1 to wrestle for bronze.
61kg Bouzakis (will wrestle repache today, if wins bronze tomorrow)
86kg Berge (will wrestle repache today, if wins bronze tomorrow)
125kg Carroll (will wrestle repache today, if wins bronze tomorrow)
USA has 1 eliminated
92kg Darrah (0-1 losing 3-4)
So best we can do would be 4 gold and 5 bronze which would be outstanding. I think Shapiro and Mesenbrink are Gold.
57kg will be very difficult as the Japanese he has in the final is awesome. With that being said, after what I saw Lilledahl do in the semi, not about to doubt him. Mendez not sure about his final.
All the bronze matches will be on mat A and the gold matches on mat B coming up here today.
After day 1 the team score was
Place Team Points
1 United States 80
2 Iran 60

Junior worlds update
Today decent day for USA but no where near yesterday where we have 3 in the finals and 2 wrestling for bronze.
74kg - Mitchell Mesenbrink made it look as if he was wrestling youth 74kg opponents. He stormed through to the finals with 4 tech falls out scoring his opponents 43-1.
Qual. 10-0 over Moldova in 2:10
1/8 12-1 over Azerbaijan in 2:53
1/4. 11-0 over India in 1:10
1/2. 10-0 over Kyrgyzstan in 0:57
Final Mitchell Mesenbrink (USA) vs Hossein Mohammad aghaei (Iran)
* Iran won his 4 matches 6-2, 10-0, 7-1, 9-0
* Mesenbrink has not been in the 2nd period yet.
I can’t picture anyone in his bracket even lasting an entire match let alone defeating him so he is as close to a gold lock as can be.
61kg Bouzakis lost in the quarters 12-11 to India. India then won his semi 8-6 so Bouzakis is still alive and needs to win one more match in order to wrestle for a bronze. His quarterfinal loss was frustrating to watch. He went up 4-0 right away and then got sloppy. Continued to get himself into a seatbelt position with a much longer opponent and would get his leg sucked under. He also looked like he ran out of gas with about 1:30 left in match. He was down 8-6 at intermission. I imagine the weight cut was difficult as he wrestled 141 all college season and now is at 134 1/2 lbs. Who knows. Anyway he for sure had the talent to make the finals but didn’t get it done. As long as his head is still in it, no reason he won’t get a bronze.
86kg Berge lost in the semis to France 9-2 which surprised me.
He won his 1/8 over Ukraine 9-5
He won his 1/4 over Bulgaria 11-0 tech fall.
He will be wrestling for a bronze
125kg Carroll got teched in the 10-0 to Amirreza Masoumi valadi (Iran). The Iranian made the final as he has been smoking everyone
9-1, 11-0, 10-0, 11-0 with all 3 of his techs in the first. Iran continues to produce outstanding heavyweights.
Carroll will have to win another match in order to wrestle for Bronze. He did win his first match over Poland 14-2 tech.
92kg Darrah is the only American that has been eliminated from Medal contention. He lost his first match to Georgia 4-3. The Georgian than won his next match before getting teched in the semis. So Darrah ends his trip 0-1. Tough to lose by a point and be done.
Man oh man is USA wrestling great!
All 5 guys that have wrestled made the semis . The 3 of the 5 that wrestled thus far are in the final. USA is 17-0 so far!

Incase anyone was wondering about the conclusion to this
Watching the video Bartlett wins but after words the wrestlers were told in locker room that the outcome had been reversed. This was the US Open semifinals!! Meaning these guys are two opponents away from a possible world team spot. How do you screw this up so bad? .. It has been explained and it is total bu****it. If i was Bartlett I’d be livid. Nick Lee did not deserve to win this match. First off, Bartlett was up 10-8 and with 5 seconds left Nick Lee gets a push out and the official calls a caution one against Bartlett which makes it 10-10. The score table screwed up and put the criteria in Bartlett’s favor. So the last 5 seconds Bartlett is defending rather than attacking thinking that he is winning. Nick Lee is on the offense thinking he is losing. They shake and raise Bartlett’s hand and walk off the mat only to later tell him he isn’t going to the finals and he lost and will be in the consis. Kolat all over again. First off to decide the match on a caution one is just ridiculous. Especially with 5 seconds left . Then to score it wrong and declare the wrong winner..awful.
US Open Semis living up to the hype.
There you have it…Semis are completed and Finals tomorrow with a spot in Final X (World team trials final) on the line.

Your 2023 NCAA Division 1
Individual wrestling champions
(With Austin O’Connor super-imposed cause apparently he missed the photo-shoot )
Couple interesting thoughts at the conclusion of the first round of NCAA wrestling…
- @ 165- Ramirez (Cornell) and Facundo (Penn St) will in fact be wrestling later today. It will be in the consi’s however instead of the round of 16 as anticipated as both were upset and took a first round loss
- @ 165 part 2 - #4 Ramirez (Cornell) was the highest seed to lose first round. Stevo Poulin (N Col) was the second highest seed to go down seeded 6th @ 125
- @ 149 - This was the second consecutive year Yianni Diakomihalis had to wrestle a returning all american round 1 despite being the #1 seed at the weight. (Last year Sherman UNC, this year Demas Poly)
- @ 197- This weight is a gamblers absolute nightmare as you can argueably say that the first 20 seeded wrestlers at the weight are almost inner-changeable. With that being said, hell of a job they did seeding this nightmare as it is the only weight to make it through round one without having one upset in coordinance to the seeds of the bracket.
- 17 seeds - 17 seeds for the most part got the better of the 16s . Out of the 10
weight classes, the only 16 seeds to beat the 17 were
125 Medley won 4-2
149 Arrington defeated Kinner 5-3 in OT
197 Pentz over Amos by injury default.
Very close to going 10/10 with a little change here and there
