The White Sands National Monument in New Mexico is a breathtaking area of giant sand dunes protected by national status since 1933. It lies 16 miles south of the nearest town Alamogordo, and only 50 miles north of Mexico. The sand is created by a soft mineral called gypsum. The mineral has collected here because the area sits within the mountain-ringed Tularosa Basin (on the dry bed of an ancient lake) where it is not carried away by rivers or rain.

Missing luggage is a huge problem in the travel world right now, so if possible, pack your bags so that you can carry them on! If that's not possible, at least pack a carry-on with all of your essentials and a few changes of clothes. If your luggage does get lost for a few days, that'll help make it a little more bearable!

About 50% of the world's jaguar population is found in Brazil's Pantanal. One of the world's greatest wildlife troves, this sprawling wetland covers more than 75,000 square miles...and more jaguars are spotted here than anywhere else in the world.

Did you know that the Amazon rainforest covers 60% of Peru? Part of which is the 5-million-acre Pacaya Samiria Reserve, the largest protected wildlife sanctuary in Peru.

With some sections of this wildlife sanctuary permanently flooded, I feel that the only way to really immerse yourself in the rainforest is by riverboat. You'll be able to take excursions on narrow creeks and walk onshore searching for some of the nearly 4,000 unique species. In the larger tributaries, you may even see pink river dolphins!
