What are you doing to help your local Turkey population??
CAUTION***********
FYI: The next 4-6 weeks is mating season for coyotes. Please do not let your dogs out alone. The coyote gets your dog to chase him and then somewhere in the distance the pack waits for your dog. Then the outcome is tragic as they can & will attack/kill your pets. Just be aware it can happen to your beloved pet. {Coyote breeding typically peaks in late February and early March, the gestation period averages 58 to 63 days. Male coyotes can become more aggressive during this time of year, the long and short of it all is that coyotes always pose a risk to your dog (and other small pets). That risk increases during mating season. If you have issues feel free to contact us.

Watermen can’t go anywhere these days without being asked, “What is happening with the crabs?”
While female crabs are above the threshold to make enough babies, there is a significant drop in small crabs estimated to be in the Bay. We cannot ignore the disconnect.
We need to focus on the new factorS that are impacting the population in Maryland and our ability to continue our successful management of this important fishery. ONE of those factors is the explosion of Blue Catfish in the Chesapeake Bay. Since 1997, the catfish population has increased 10-fold.
Blue Cats
- are the largest Catfish species in North America and live up to 20 years.
- can grow up to 150 pounds.
- were originally stocked as a recreational fish in VA rivers by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries in the 1970’s.
- spread to the Potomac River and then established in Patuxent River in mid-2000s.
- are now in every tributary of the Chesapeake Bay.
- 62.5 tons harvested in Maryland waters in 2011.
- 119 tons harvested in Maryland waters in 2016.
- 251.5 tons harvested in Maryland waters in 2017.
To the watermen and recreational fishermen targeting blue catfish and to the restaurants willing to put it on your menu, thank you. Thank you for doing your part to protect our crabs, striped bass, clams, white perch, menhaden, and other native species!
