I didn't know what these "Future" pieces would be when I started thinking about them. I knew I wanted to layer things more consciously, and I knew I had scraps of blueprint paper that immediately made me think of afrofuturistic people. The rest I took step by step.
I am reminded that obsessing over the end result (of literally anything) can be incredibly limiting.

You might notice something is different 👀
I chose the name blackwomxngreenart a couple of years ago because at the time, I understood it to be inclusive, and I felt that it represented my own identity extremely well.
& I was wrong!
I now understand that - a term that I was using in an attempt to represent and folks - is unnecessary and transphobic. I never want anyone to feel excluded or othered in my lil corner of the internet - this is a space for celebrating ALL black people.
This is ALSO a space where we change when presented with new information, so it's now Rolonda Larae Art across all platforms 🤎

I've been digging through National Geographics that my friend gave me many years ago 🙃💜 as I began working more with paint, I just started creating the colors I wanted...it felt easier than flipping through endless pages in search of the perfect shade of pink 🙄
Looking through all of my and the various scraps I've collected through the years reminded me of the textures and colors that inspired me when I started collaging back in 2004. I'm so happy to reconnect with that feeling of discovery ⚡
