Thursday, the ribbon was cut on Huntsville Fire and Rescue Fire Station No. 20 on Burgreen Rd! This 6,858-square-foot facility will ensure faster emergency response times in West Huntsville, leading to better health outcomes and enhanced protection for property owners.

The U.S. Space & Rocket Center had their Rocket Park ribbon cutting on Thursday to celebrate the restoration of Rocket Row, new green spaces, a new amphitheater section, and more.

The Space and Rocket Center holds so much important Huntsville and US history, and we love to see it continue to evolve and provide educational opportunities for visitors.

Students and families who need a little extra help before the start of the next school year are invited to the annual Community Awareness for Youth Back to School event on July 13 at Calhoun Community College Huntsville campus.

Hosted by CAFY and Huntsville Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, the goal of the event is to support students ages 12-18 by ensuring they are well-equipped for the 2024-2025 school year by providing free backpacks and school supplies.

Moves are being made to bring a recreation center to the west Huntsville area. The City has awarded the construction contract to Chorba Contracting Corporation for the construction of the one-story, 27,350 sq ft facility located on Martin Road. The facility will feature basketball courts, volleyball courts, pickleball courts, and more.

Council Member John Meredith presented the Historic Huntsville Foundation (HHF) with a $12,000 allocation from the D5 council improvement fund for the Lydia Drive National Register Historic District. Thank you to Donna Castello, the HHF Executive Director, and her team for their efforts in recognizing Lydia Drive as an important piece of Huntsville’s history. Also, thank you to Lydia Drive residents Olivia Brandon and Daphne Hyter Jah for sharing their family history with our City.
