Back in 2015, Witch Tree put together an 8-song demo so venues and bands could hear what we sounded like when working on booking shows.

We originally planned to re-record all these tracks for our first proper release but as our style evolved it felt more difficult to put together a cohesive package of the songs we had ready to go. We decided to pick some of the songs from the demo tracks that still accurately represented how we played them live and had Danny Anton Productions remix and remaster them. Danny really went above and beyond with refining the demo tracks we gave him and what we've ended up with is a great sounding EP of five songs.

The remaining three songs from the demo will be re-recorded and included on our forthcoming LP, Be a Great Sea.

This is the single to the Witch Tree EP I recently finished post production on! You can listen here for free, or download for $1.

For those of you that know a little about audio engineering, the drums were captured with only a kick drum mic, and a single overhead. Getting the drums to sound like they do here was a challenge, but a rewarding one.

The post production work on the EP this single is from turned out to be time consuming, as the capture of the songs was not originally intended to serve as the final versions, but I am proud of the results!

This is a day that happens each month when Bandcamp forgoes their cut of music sales and all proceeds go to the artist. Tomorrow, we are releasing the single Damn Well from our forthcoming EP, The Root Cellar Sessions. Feel free to stream the track and download it today if you've got other stuff going on tomorrow. We're more interested in the popularity of Bandcamp Friday and the buzz it creates than the extra percentage we'd get of sales. But if you're able, we will make a bit more off downloads tomorrow. We're releasing this single exclusively on Bandcamp, but when the whole EP debuts next month (aiming for Friday, November 4th), it will be available on all the usual platforms (streaming and downloadable).

A slightly longer album version of Damn Well will be included in the release of The Root Cellar Sessions on November 4th, 2022.

This past week (September 22nd - 24th), I had the privilege of record engineering the foundational elements of Minneapolis based band Witch Tree’s forthcoming full length album.

Some attention was given to guitar and vocals, but the primary focus was capturing all the needed bass and drum takes. Although, the bass guitar was recorded directly into an interface, the percussive elements were given plenty of room to breath thanks to the hospitality of Fieldstone Farm. Their refurbished one room schoolhouse was the perfect live room for capturing massive sounding drums!
