I want to take the opportunity to thank all those who supported my write-in campaign. While the write-in votes still have to be counted, the likelihood of success with my campaign has shrunk significantly. Write-in votes must be counted by hand, and that will take some time, but will definitely be done before the Thanksgiving holiday.

In most of the races, there were about 4,600 votes cast. Votes for the incumbent Ty Gaither are unofficially at 3,285. So, while I still want to see the votes counted, I must acknowledge that the probability of success is somewhere equivalent to the likelihood of me becoming a boxing heavyweight champion or winning the Powerball lottery.

I have enjoyed this process, it has been an education to say the least. It has also required me to step outside my comfort zone in many ways, which has been a means of personal growth for me. It has been a pleasure for me to meet many more residents of the county than I knew before this process began.

There are many I need to thank personally, and I will in the days that come, but I want to publicly thank my wife and kids for their unwavering support throughout this process. It will be nice to have my nights and weekends back to spend with my family.

I have no regrets. Having lost in the primary and looking to repeat that feat in the general election, I am reminded that other great men have faced similar outcomes, Abraham Lincoln for one. I do not pretend that I am equal to Abraham Lincoln, because I am not. But when we live in a society that places a high value on the outcome of events, it’s good to know that having lost in the election process, I am in good company.

I will be getting around to pick up my signs in the next few days, but feel free to dispose of them immediately. In this election, so many more people came in and picked up signs, I’m not sure I know where all of them are located.

I want to take the opportunity to congratulate Jake Dawson on his election as the next Associate Circuit Judge in Cedar County. I also want to thank the citizens of the county for their time as I campaigned these past several weeks. I appreciate the support I received, and I look forward to continuing to serve the people of Cedar County as I continue to offer a wide range of services through my law practice.
