My Announcement that was printed in George County Times 🖤💙🖤

My name is Lisa Finlay Chimento and I currently hold the position of Sergeant and Supervisor with the George County Sheriff Office, having worked under both Sheriffs Keith Havard and Dean Howell, with a cumulative tenure of 11 years with the department. My prior six years of service were with the Mobile County Sheriff Office in its Mounted Patrol Division. It was an honor and privilege to train, care for and serve with the horses. Together we performed crowd control, day to day law enforcement duties and aided with search and rescue missions. I am currently commissioned with the Biloxi Police Department as well as the George County School District, assisting with special event security and other duties as needed. My current duties with the GC Sheriff’s Office include patrolling our streets and community to keep it safe, serving warrants and making arrests, securing crime scenes and protecting evidence, working alongside CPS on child cases, working accidents on county and state highways, first responding to medical and domestic violence calls, working with EMA for any natural disasters and much more.
As a Sergeant (supervisor) I oversee the patrol of our county which is 503 square miles. Together, we patrol for 12-hour shifts, making sure our communities are covered with deputies to protect it at all times. As a Sergeant, I help carry the load by going on call and making cases for our investigators, as well as ensuring all reports and felony arrests are completed and logged into the system. It’s not a glamorous job, but my fellow officers and the citizens I serve make it mean so much more. I’m here because I care. Because I’m one of you. Because I’ve been on both sides of that phone call. It has been my life experiences that brought me to where I am today. My dad served in the Marines, and I grew up with seven siblings, five boys, and two girls. My brothers, along with my dad, sculpted who I've become. I had started a career in the medical field, but I was always passionate about becoming a police officer. That desire was defined when our father died. December 23, 2001 would bring a life-changing event I will never forget. A drunk driver killed our dad. The man who took our father's life never spent a night in jail, nor did he stay a single day in the hospital. But we had to lay our father to rest. My children would never see their grandfather again. That moment changed my life and has led me to where I am today, doing what I can to protect and serve my community and by helping me to better understand the different situations involved in the hundreds of calls we answer monthly.
During my time with the department, I have also had the privilege to help with several new programs and events that were created to benefit the communities. In 2016, the First Annual GCSO Golf Tournament was organized, providing much-needed equipment for the deputies to help with daily duties outside of our annual budget. This year will be the 8th annual Golf Tournament benefit and I am honored to have been a part of these efforts since the beginning. Another of our fundraisers for the children of George County is the GCSO Blue-line Toy Drive. This program provides toys, clothing, and necessities for children of local families with assistance from our local teachers and donations from our community. I attribute the success of these Toy Drives not only to the generosity of local businesses and citizens, but to my inspiration to organize and implement the First Annual GCSO Car Show with all of the proceeds to benefit this annual Blue Line Toy Drive. The community has also been brought together by the creation and management of Neighborhood Watch Programs, created by Sheriff Havard. I am currently involved in implementing this program that brings our citizens together and provides valuable information from the Sheriff's Department and GCSO Investigators and Narcotics Agents, with the assistance from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fish & Game. I have been a part of this program since its beginning and I’m excited to continue this endeavor and look forward to pushing for safety and progress in our communities in the future.
I have spent the last 11 years in the GCSO and see firsthand the importance of evolving in a rapidly growing community with increasing population, crime, and growth. Our citizens deserve the most well-trained and equipped law enforcement presence we can provide, a presence that should be prepared at all times. Sheriff Havard has made a significant difference in our county concerning safety with community involvement, upgraded technology, better training, and much more. But unfortunately, as a small and rural law enforcement agency, we are susceptible to falling behind our larger counterparts in adopting and using newer computers and other technologies - technologies that can help reduce crime, catch criminals, and improve safety for our deputies and the public. I am dedicated to continuing the growth and betterment of our department and its resources to ensure its ability to serve and protect the citizens of our county.
Today, I give you, my word. I will continue to build on these programs if elected Sheriff of George County, and I will continue to do everything I possibly can to make George County safer for all of its citizens. I love George County and am committed to its citizens. This is my home too.
Please help me to CONTINUE COMMITMENT, INTEGRITY & LEADERSHIP by Voting and Supporting Lisa Finlay Chimento as your next Sheriff. Thank you!

As I ponder on this election, I realize most people call it a race. Running for your next Sheriff Elect, there’s so much more that I want the citizens to know. There’s no finish to this race, it is just the beginning! As your new Sheriff, I will continue to put the citizens first, to keep progress moving forward and to build the department even stronger, just as the current Sheriff has worked so hard to do. With the help of my colleagues and the citizens of George County there is nothing that isn’t possible with everyone’s help.

Continuing Leadership, Commitment and Integrity

Since taking office in 2016, Sheriff Keith Havard along with the department, has organized multiple successful programs to benefit our community and Sheriff's department. These nonprofit benefits are a 501(3)(c) organization, that are overseen by a board of trustees
In his first year, 2016, he initiated the 1st Annual GCSO Golf Tournament, which provided much-needed equipment for the deputies to help with daily duties, equipment which is not covered in our annual budget. This year will be the 8th annual Golf Tournament benefit.
One of our most significant fundraisers for the children of George County is our GCSO Blue-line Toy Drive. This program provides toys and necessities for children of local families with help from our local teachers, as well as donations from our community. Each of these toy drives has been incredibly successful, thanks to the generosity of local businesses and citizens. The success of those fundraisers was my inspiration to organize the First Annual GCSO Car Show with proceeds to benefit this annual GCSO Blue Line Toy Drive drive.
Our Sheriff has also brought the community together by helping with the Neighborhood Watch programs. This program brings the communities together and brings valuable information from the Sheriff's Department and other agencies, such as GCSO Investigators and Narcotics Agents, along with assistance from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fish & Game. I have been a part of this program and will continue to do so.
Sheriff Havard has made such a significant difference in our county with regard to safety with community involvement, upgraded technology, better training, and much more. You have my word. I will continue to build on these programs if elected Sheriff of George County.
This brings me to say I love this community/county and I’m committed to its citizens' safety and well-being. This is my home.

Please join me in CONTINUING COMMITMENT, INTEGRITY & LEADERSHIP by electing me, Lisa Finlay Chimento as your next Sheriff?

It goes without saying that voting is one of our most fundamental rights as Americans is the ability to vote for the candidate of our choice. It’s our way to express our opinion and contribute to the future of our county, state, and country.

With this being said, I am humbly, and respectfully asking for your vote in the race as the next Sheriff of George County. As a resident of George County since 2000, my law enforcement career began with the Mobile County Sheriff's Office in 2007, before choosing to accept a position with the GCSO in 2012. I currently serve as a Sergeant and Supervisor. I have been in law enforcement nearly 16 years.

Please stay tuned to this page as I lay out my plan for this great county. Thank you!
