Viewing support roles differently…
When Virtual assistants, virtual executive assistants, and practically all the operational support roles in your business and/or life are considered PARTNERS in your success, you’re making more space for yourself and everyone to expand.
Frankly, the time of people serving as “the help” has passed. We can be in relationship with the people who build and maintain a business with us.
Thank you to Rachel Everington - The Executive Ninja for the reminder in this post & graphic.
VEAs are not “the help.”
They are partners that are ready to:
➡️ Stand beside you in your business.
➡️ Offer support and guidance with tasks.
➡️ Hold you accountable the same way a partner would.
Many people say that they want an assistant on their level but subconsciously prefer to feel unsupported and like they’re the only person who can be trusted.
This creates an unhealthy dynamic that leans on control instead of trust.
If you want to fully trust your VA, you must be trustworthy too.
Are you ready for that level of accountability?
If so, we’re here to support you.
[ New episode alert! ] This week’s episode Sheroes of Small Business is about Debra’s and my writing processes: she just having published her 5th novel, and me struggling to just make the time.
What’s your relationship with writing for yourself or for your business?
The Sheroes discuss their writing processes—or rather, the lack thereof. Janice Plado Dalager (Janice Your VA) says when writing, she comes from the "school of suffering," meaning any amount of writing causes a lot of trepidation. She doesn't have any problem starting a project, but finishing an article or post is another story. Debra Ann Dotson, who writes 80,000-word novels, has difficulty putting 250 words together for a simple blog post, and would prefer if Janice wrote the description for each podcast episode.
Debra and Janice discuss the benefits of keeping up with a writing practice and some ways to get past the "fear of writing" by joining writing communities (such as NaNoWriMo) and taking part in online writing challenges (such as a 30-day blog post challenge). Janice and Debra have committed to doing a follow-up episode to report on how they have progressed with their writing efforts. Stay tuned!

She’s done it! Congrats to my friend and cohost of the Sheroes of Small Business Podcast, Debra Ann Dotson , on the release of her latest book, Unwitting Prey !
There won’t be any small business stories in this book - unless your business is murder and suspicion! 🫣
Seriously though, if reading murder mysteries is how you unwind,
1) I don’t know how you’re also friends with Janice the Scaredy Cat, but no judgement, and
2) Consider getting into “Unwitting Prey,” Debra’s latest edition in her Harrington Palmer series, or
3) Consider her other murder mystery series of books, because yeah, this lady’s got TWO sets of characters to fill your cup full of suspense before the summer’s over!
Enjoy!
It's here...FINALLY! The second book in the Harrington Palmer series—UNWITTING PREY! Learn more about this story and where you can get your copy at https://www.debraanndotson.com/unwitting-prey/
When you own your own time, everyone wins! Learn more on this week’s episode of Sheroes of Small Business!
In this episode of Sheroes of Small Business, Debra Ann Dotson and Janice Plado Dalager (Janice Your VA ) discuss “Owning Our Time.” We do this by creating schedules that work for us as well as our clients.
As we work with people in different time zones, it no longer makes sense to work the standard 8 to 5. And since we are building our own businesses to have a better work-life balance, we need to create a schedule that allows us to work when we are at our peak and affords ample time off to recharge.
When you “own your time,” everyone wins. You’ll be happier, more productive, and both you and your clients will reap the benefits.

How valuable is your VA or OBM to your business operation? How would your business run without your VA, OBM, or other people you contract?
Current industry standards don't reflect the full value that many gig-workers, freelancers, independent contractors bring to build your business vision.
Remember that that contractor is still a human being - and work is still just work.

"Managing Admin and Maintenance Systems in Your Business"
What do these systems bring up for you? Comment below and tell me more!
“Admin and Maintenance Systems in Your Business”
Sounds stark, doesn’t it? What kinds of tasks and systems do these sound like to you?
As a business owner who specializes in systems and operations in others’ businesses, this is the topic I’m being interviewed on next week - and I was hoping I read the title wrong!
Maybe the first saving grace is that NOBODY does admin and maintenance systems perfectly. Unless that is your actual job.
You know why? Admin and maintenance systems work IS a whole job, in and of itself. Here we are, either trying to squeeze it into scattered minutes here and there OR cramming the entire two days before month-end to clean it up, and still lamenting what a mess it is at the end of the month.
So let’s start by recognizing that establishing and executing admin and maintenance systems is necessary work - if you don’t want your life to suck at every month-end or quarter-end or year-end, when compounded with the stress of ignoring it, amounts to all year long. When we don’t recognize how much it matters - to our bottom lines, to our stress levels, to our relationships - then we don’t make an appropriate investment of time or effort to change it.

With regard to Boundaries, here’s a different consideration than the popular “If it isn’t a ‘Hell, yes’”-argument.

“What goals have you set for the quarter or the year?”
I get cringy, just asking about it, like when I got cornered at my high school graduation party by a well-meaning grown-up asking about my plans for my future.
We’re breaking down the patriarchal tendency of goalsetting on , so what’s been your experience with ? How have you gotten around it being oppressive?
Goalsetting: It’s a love/hate relationship for most of us. Goalsetting has somehow made “desire” the enemy. What’s your love/hate story with Goalsetting?
I’m getting ready to record a series on Goalsetting on with , and we’d love to hear about your own experience with setting goals, professional or personal.
