Agua Fria Cheer
Agua Fria Spiritline
Our last, but not least, senior spotlight goes to Melea Gaskins! Mel has been a part of the cheer program all four years of her high school career! Mel’s favorite cheer memory is every single time a stunt has hit, along with as a team when we were successful or a routine went perfect after repeated hard work. The feeling Mel gets when we are all together and realize what we’ve achieved is unmatched ..pure joy. After graduation, Mel plans to attend ASU Walter Cronkite school of journalism and pursue ROTC in college. She plans to receive a Bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communications. Beyond college Mel wants to be involved heavily in public affairs while in the United States Air Force. Mel leaves this advice for her fellow cheerleaders, “Please know what seems impossible now will soon become muscle memory and unforgettable.”
Our third senior spotlight goes to Dominique Martinez! Neeka has been a part of the cheer program for all four years of her high school career, and is a captain for the 24-25 school year cheer team! Neeka’s favorite cheer memory is during this year’s summer camp after our swim day, being able to bond with the team and eat pizza with our coaches. What a lot of people don’t know about Neeka, is how much of a picker eater she is…. (Planning team dinners has been great LOL). Neeka’s plan after high school is to work in the NICU. Neeka leaves this advice for her fellow cheerleaders, “Be positive and enjoy every moment.”
Our second senior spotlight goes to Leyana Flores! Ley has been a part of the cheer program for two years now. Ley’s favorite cheer memory is when the girls started becoming closer, sharing inside jokes, and becoming like a family. Those moments of bonding and laughter made the team feel so special. It wasn’t just about the routines and being perfect, it was about the friendships and support we built along the way. Being around such supportive and funny girls made every practice and performance even more meaningful and fun. She is going to miss her beautiful girls so much. And thanks them for every amazing memory spent with them. After graduation, Ley plans to become a dentist. She would love to help more people become confident in their smiles. Ley leaves this advice for her fellow cheerleaders, “Always believe in yourself and never give up. Cheerleading can be tough, but with dedication and practice, you will get better. Be kind to your teammates and help each other out. Most importantly, have fun and enjoy every moment because cheerleading is about spreading joy and energy. It’ll all be gone in a blink of an eye. Don’t take anything for granted. Be grateful for your spot.”
We are kicking off the countdown to Senior Night for our cheer team, which is taking place before the Varsity Football game this Friday, November 8th.
Our first Senior Spotlight is our Honorary Senior, Valerie Bikadi, who is a Foreign Exchange student here at Agua Fria High School; and sadly leaves us at the end of this school year. This is Valerie’s first year participating in cheer, as her home country Germany doesn’t even have cheer teams! Valerie’s favorite memory so far this year is her first half time performance! Valerie plans on finishing her schooling once she returns to Germany so she is able to come back to America for College. Val leaves this advice for her fellow cheerleaders, “Believe in yourself, and never give up!”
