🙏 A big thank you to the the🌳Northbrook Park District, the👮Northbrook Police Department, the Village of Northbrook -- and so many village & area residents -- for welcoming & attending the ⚒️North Shore Artisan Market at Village Green Park this past weekend. (It's what a public park & downtown should be!)

Your overwhelming support for small business is greatly appreciated both by us & the 90+ talented artisans participating this past Sat & Sun.

In the months leading up to the market & throughout the weekend, Lynna & I had the pleasure of 👨‍🍳eating & drinking at several local businesses in & around downtown Northbrook. Special thanks to the kitchens, servers, staff & business owners at Georgie V's, Leonidas Northbrook, Little Louie's, Graeter's Ice Cream, The Landmark Inn, and Kamehachi of Northbrook -- for great food, coffee, ice cream, sushi, service & hospitality. We departed downtown Northbrook on Sunday night well fed, filled with gratitude, and looking forward to future markets (& meals!) in Northbrook.

When we set out to debut the ⚒️North Shore Artisan Market...and kick-off summer THIS WEEKEND (Sat-Sun, Jun 22-23, 🕙10am-4pm both days), we figured we needed a few things...

🌳 Stately oak trees to keep our shoppers & 🎪vendors (literally "MADE in the SHADE") - so cool heads could prevail.

On Sat-Sun, June 22-23, '24....the producers of the ⚒️Chicago Artisan Market will be "rolling" into the North Shore suburbs of Chicago to kick-off Summer '24 -- with our debut⚒️North Shore Artisan Market at idyllic 🌳Village Green Park (📍1810 Walters Ave., Northbrook) in the heart of downtown Northbrook, IL. (More market details available on https://NorthShoreArtisanMarket.com or our Mar 17th FB post.)

💡 We were inspired by the former "North Shore Line" of the 🚋Chicago North Shore & Milwaukee Railroad (1916-1963). In its heyday, the North Shore Lines were known for their "high operating speeds" and "innovative services" -- two things we strive for, too! (Source: Wikipedia).

Today, commuters travelling by train to/from the North Shore to/from Chicago are served primarily by two METRA Lines that run (roughly) parallel to the original North Shore lines, namely:

🚆 METRA's Milwaukee District North - originating at Union Station & running through Edgebrook, Glenview, Deerfield, Northbrook & Lake Forest...all the way to Fox Lake).

🚆 METRA's Union Pacific - North -- originating at Ogilvie TC downtown & stopping at Clybourn, Ravenswood (near our ⚒️Chicago Artisan Market in historic Ravenswood), Rogers Park, Evanston, Wilmette, Winnetka, Highland Park, Glencoe, Lake Forest, etc...all the way to Kenosha).

Did you know?
🛤️ Annual METRA ridership hit a peak of nearly 87 million in 2008 (start of Great Recession) -- before steadily declining to 74 million in 2019 (pre-Covid). During the pandemic, ridership plunged to an annual low of 14 million riders in 2021, and has been slowly recovering since - to 24 million in 2022, and 32 million+ in 2023 - but still just 35% to 40% of historic highs.

💡Maybe Chicagoans just need more reasons to ride Metra! We need our trains running at capacity to have an efficient area economy & fully funded transit....and we're here to help anyway we can!
