A lot of the time, we hear people measure feeding therapy success in terms of food expansion. But success is NOT ONLY food expansion. Success can also look likeā€¦

šŸ§” Eating steak ā€œwell-doneā€ if you like crispy foods
It might not be the cool thing to order, but thatā€™s ok! Celebrate the foods you want to eat.

Weā€™re here to help! If youā€™re ready for a change, Kelly provides individualized therapy services to help you meet your feeding goals. Message us for more information šŸ“²

A lot of the time, we hear people measure feeding therapy success in terms of food expansion. But success is NOT ONLY food expansion. Success can also look likeā€¦

šŸ§” Feeling comfortable tasting a new food without stress or anxiety
Itā€™s okay if it doesnā€™t become a safe food or if youā€™re not eating a huge variety of foods at the moment. Itā€™s important to recognize where youā€™re at right now, and be happy with the progress youā€™ve already made.

Hello and Happy New Year!

Itā€™s a new year, and there are a lot of new faces, so I wanted to take a second to introduce myself. Iā€™m Kelly āž”ļø
šŸ§” A Speech Language Pathologist and Feeding Specialist. ARFID is my jam, among other complex feeding disorders
šŸ§” I know that therapy is not one size fits all. I use alternative techniques, such as hypnosis, to help you meet your feeding goals
šŸ§” I love sharing my knowledge with others! I have a couple of feeding courses through CIAO seminars (link in bio!) focusing on helping SLPs and OTs improve their feeding therapy skills. I also mentor feeding therapists virtually (you get to bring your own caseload!)
šŸ§” Increasing your food repertoire isnā€™t everything. There are so many goals to strive for other than just increasing foods, and Iā€™m here for it. I want to help you meet YOUR goals, whatever that may be.

Introduce yourself in the comments! Iā€™d love to hear more about you ā¬‡ļø

Virtual therapy is becoming increasingly more and more popular and has been found to be just as effective as in-person therapy, even for hypnosis.

We often get questions about what virtual hypnosis sessions may look like. Check out our blog post where weā€™re talking about virtual therapy sessions, and how Kelly uses hypnosis to help her clients!

Including your little one in holiday festivities doesnā€™t have to be stressful. Remember, the holidays are about fun and family. NOT stress! Any way to include the entire family (regardless of food preferences) is the goal!

Even if your teen or child doesnā€™t love to eat these foods, it may be fun to include them in the prep work (with no pressure for them to taste/eat it) as opposed to having a stressful day filled with food rejection. Hereā€™s one idea of a fun, holiday-themed food-related activity for your little one to get involved in:

šŸŽ…Fruit Skewers - You can use this for ANY holiday! Holiday hats, decorate the marshmallow with eyes to make turkey faces, and more.

The Rutherford family is very near and dear to my heart! I work closely with this family, and I am devastated to hear her brain tumor now requires surgery.

Please send positive thoughts to this family, and if you can, consider donating to Emma.

A lot of the time, we hear people measure feeding therapy success in terms of food expansion. But success is NOT ONLY food expansion. Success can also look likeā€¦

šŸ§” Having your child eat lunch at school, even if you pack it for them!
There are many kids who can go their entire school career without eating school lunch. The most important factor here is that your child is eating during the school day! Kids need nutrition to support their learning, but they donā€™t need to eat the school lunch to be successful.

Does your child have significant picky eating concerns that limits their social interactions, health, weight, growth, and/or development?

Reaching out to a professional for either parental coaching or therapy for your child can make a huge difference. This DOES NOT mean that youā€™re doing anything wrong or that youā€™re causing the picky eating. Parental coaching or therapy for your child will help you support your child in expanding their food repertoire.

Although picky eating can be developmental, if it seems like itā€™s something harder to deal with and your child is not outgrowing it, talk to your doctor about it to rule out any medical causes.

All the tips and therapy in the world will not help if there is an underlying medical issue at hand. For example, is your child constipated? If food is not coming out it will not go in! Does your child have reflux? Pain and eating do not mix well. Does your toddler have undiagnosed allergies? Allergies (some that we cannot even see) are common causes of feeding issues.

Ruling out a medical cause when it comes to more severe picky eating is very important and cannot be overlooked!

It happens to the best of us! We go in with a plan, then the plan goes out the window when you get stressed.

Having a picky eater can be one of the most anxiety producing family stressors, but our little ones can feel our stress and will feed off of it, making mealtimes worse and creating problems in the future!

I like to think of ways to respond ahead of time, and think about how I could say something differently next time. You can even write yourself some notes to glance at if needed!

Whether youā€™re looking for you or for your child, we know it is tough finding the right care for feeding challenges.

Youā€™re likely looking for a therapist that you work well with, a therapist or a clinic who can work with your schedule, and a treatment option that you can afford. Then add a less common, and often misunderstood, feeding challenge such as Avoidant/Restrictive Intake Disorder (ARFID) on top of thatā€¦ we get it.

There are a number of services out there to help you meet your goals of expanding your food repertoire and increasing your nutritional intake. Swipe, or check out our most recent blog post, to read more about the benefits of online and in-person clinic programs, and some considerations when looking for a program thatā€™s right for you or your child. Find it here: https://infinityhypnosis.com/is-there-an-arfid-clinic-i-can-go-to/

Alsoā€¦ stay tuned!! We have our own ARFID clinic opening soon! šŸ§”
