Does anyone need a dozen eggs??
-
Our egg supply dwindles over the winter months - with shorter days and colder temps, there are more important things for our girls to focus than laying eggs (like keeping warm - and who can blame them!) β€’ But judging by this bounty I found in the coop this morning, things are looking up β€’ Could this mean that spring (and warmth, and sunshine) is right around the corner? β€’ We sure hope so!
-
We officially have enough eggs to start selling again, so if you'd like some let me know β€’ There's no way Adam and I can eat them all on our own πŸ™‚

It's been just over a week since we (almost) finished our new 'hay crib' and it's safe to say that it's one of the best things we've ever built β€’ It's perfect for our menagerie of critters - the horses can reach over the top, and the rest can eat through the slats on the side, all without standing on and pooping in the hay like they used to β€’ It still needs a roof and a proper gate, but so far it's eliminated hay waste and that makes everyone - especially the humans paying for the hay - so happy @ Watswood Farm

We just finished putting together this winter shelter at the beginning of the week and Antoinette (or Annie,) Josie, and the rest of the girls think that the timing couldn't have been better β€’ Here's to staying warm, dry, and protected from both the weather and the hawks as winter heads our way!

Our candles are now in stock in the sweetest little shop in Bel Air!
-
Next time you are on Main Street (here's looking at you Harco friends!) make sure to pop in and check them out - along with other amazing clothing, accessory, and home decor finds β€’ And as always, thank you for choosing to 😘
-
Side note: those little 2oz ones have been selling like crazy - in the shops and in person - and faster than I can list them on Etsy β€’ But I have a new batch in the works and (fingers crossed) a new listing on the way β€’ So stay tuned!

Mornings with my best little lady
-
We named her Emma for two reasons: 1. It was a shortened version of her previous name 'Gemma' and 2. Her full name - Emma (Jean) Watson - is the perfect tie to one of our favorite stories (and actresses) - as her frizzy forlock reminds us so much of Hermione Granger

Belly rubs to celebrate

Apologies for being a day late - this holiday wasn't exactly on my radar as I haven't been able to celebrate it until this year 😊

We stocked up at Wyre Naturals earlier this afternoon, and now it's on to the next pour! Watswood has had an incredible first few weeks on Main Street and we couldn't be more grateful β€” thank you to everyone who chooses to

'Operation House Chicken' is a go!
-
Poor little thing was sneezing up a storm yesterday afternoon, so I immediately separated her from the rest of the flock to prevent the spread of anything contagious β€’ She didn't have any other symptoms but I treated her for an upper respiratory infection just in case β€’ After a night in the dining room she seems to be back to her normal self
-
The good news: it was likely just dust or allergies and she can go out with the other girls soon β€’ The bad news: I'll miss my house guest β€’ I think I'll keep her inside for a while longer (oooor permanently?!) just to be sure 😁 (she just fits in so well!)

When you get that feeling that you're being watched...
-
We've been spending a lot of time inside the past few days because it.won't.stop.raining. β€’ Luckily there are plenty of things in the house and barn to keep me busy
-
Also, as of Sunday, we've been graced with this one's silly, sassy presence for a whole year β€’ She drives me crazy sometimes but I can't imagine life without her πŸ–€

It's that time of year again!
-
*In my best Bubba (from Forrest Gump) voice* " You can grill it, boil it, bake it, saute it - there's zucchini kabobs, zucchini bread, zucchini noodles, zucchini fries, zucchini casarole, zucchini burgers..."
-
Zucchini is one of my favorite things from the garden and will be on the menu all week

One more healthy little chick made it's debut over night! This time from a dark brown egg - so he or (hopefully) she is a Blue or Black Copper Maran. It, and the little Olive Egger that hatched yesterday, are happily snuggled under momma and all are doing well!

Proud momma and her first chick πŸ–€

Baby is chirping and moving around a bit and we will continue to monitor as it dries off, fluffs up, gets stronger - and hopefully gains a few siblings
-
This is the first little one born at our farm and I can't even explain how special this is β€’ What an absolutely wonderful thing to be a part of

We've hit day 21 for Charlotte and her eggs! No signs of pipping when I went out to the coop this morning β€” but I will continue to check throughout the day. Fingers crossed that we will have babies by the weekend!

The perfect summer snack β€’ I have a feeling this will be on the menu quite frequently in the coming weeks - especially as our tomatoes continue to ripen

Lucille is the perfect model ✨
-
In other news from the coop: Blanche started laying the cutest little brown eggs β€’ The new girl Wilma is settling in well but continues to elude my attempts at taking her picture β€’ And Charlotte is still sitting on her eggs and we are less than a week away from our expected hatch date!

Dog days of summer

Photos from Watswood Farm's post 02/07/2018

Having a lot of animals means there's more love - more laughter, more smiles, more friendships β€’ But sadly it also means more opportunities for heartbreak β€’ And while the good days will always outweigh the bad, the sad and cruel ones never get any easier
-
Samson passed away unexpectedly yesterday and we are all at a loss for words and reason β€’ We don't know why or exactly when it happened - only that it seemed sudden and (I hope more than anything else) painless
-
He was fiercely protective of 'his' goats, constantly judgemental to his people, and always kept us on our toes with his chill-one-minute-spit-in-your-face-the-next personality β€’ He was but also a fluffy, opinionated goofball that brought us daily entertainment and laughter β€’ We miss him terribly and know that the farm will not be the same without him πŸ–€ @ Watswood Farm

Watswood Farm: the official candle supplier to the state of Nevada! β€’ Okay - maybe that's an exaggeration - BUT starting next week you CAN find our candles in - the sweetest little store in midtown Reno!
-
This opens up a whole new (and scary and exciting) world of Wholesale and we are so so excited to welcome Joanna at Sittie & Sage as our first official partner β€’ We're so happy that she found us on Etsy and are honored to be offered in her beautiful shop! (Seriously guys - the aesthetic is amazing - go see for yourself!)
-
We're talking with a few local (Maryland) shops and would love to add a few more states to the list - so if you or someone you know is interested we're all ears!

Dixon had his first bath today and looks ✨
-
He danced around for the first few seconds but quickly realized that running from the hose didn't work, and stood patiently from then on β€’ And he didn't roll immediately after - so I'm pretty proud of my little man!
-
The other critters - alpacas included of course - also got a refreshing sq**rt and are feeling much more comfortable @ Watswood Farm

Miss Charlotte has gone broody πŸ₯š
-
For the past few days she's refused to leave her nesting box and has greeted me with the most unpleasant and unwelcoming squack every time I open the coop door β€’ She thinks she wants to be a mom - so tonight I'm honoring that wish β€’ I picked up a dozen fertilized eggs from a nearby farm and we're going to give this whole 'mamma hen' thing a go β€’ She's happily keeping them warm and if all goes well, we'll have a new little farm family in a few weeks
-
Fingers crossed that we get more pullets than cockrels so that we can add some of these gorgeous egg colors (swipe!) to our daily collection @ Watswood Farm

Dixon is finally starting to loose his winter fuzz and is looking quite handsome (as usual) β€’ I'm hoping to give him his first bath this weekend to get the rest of his winter coat (and dirt!) off β€’ I'm anxious to see how he will react to the hose for the first time, but judging by the way he's handled everything so far, I think we'll be just fine β€’ He's the best little man
-
Side note: this hybrid halter from is such a great tool and gives us that extra bit of communication that is so critical in his training β€’ It blends the pressure and control of a rope halter, with the ease and versatility of a nylon, and is a must-have in any barn
