Private Art School in Carbondale, IL. Promoting self-discovery and creativity through fine art.
Art Post Photo dump. I never know why I’m so hard on myself as an art teacher. I worry constantly the kids are bored, or not understanding concepts, or not producing enough work. This year I’ve been focusing on a more emergent curriculum, listening to their interests, allowing their input and putting it into production, as well as introducing them to more process art.
One month in and they’ve done some exciting work. It’s a great crew of kiddos this year. They are a ton of fun.
K-3rd works: Hot Dogs Cool cats, Roll A Bug, Abstract Window Boxes
4th-5th, Monochromatic Wood Sculptures demonstrating repitition, pattern, movement, and balance
5th-8th
Alcohol Ink Exploration, Alcohol ink Shadow Transparencies
5th-8th grade students were asked to create either a protest or inspiring art piece using their favorite quotes or verse of their own. I'm so pleased with all their work. Their pieces are quite visceral and mature in thought. Food for thought and hope for the future. Love these gals.
We made some upgrades to our Chihuly sculpture with more recycled items. I'm so in love with this piece and the students diligence and work ethic to get it finished. It's cool to see them get excited about visiting the sculpture at our local Neighborhood Coop grocery store. They are so proud. And they deserve to be!
Our Chihuly sculpture has found a temporary home at our local Neighborhood Co-op Grocery (in the entrance). We are grateful for their enthusiasm and support.
Recycled projects. Art puns. Cerealism rather than cubism and surrealism. 3rd-5th grades.

When the students play in art class
Glass artist Dale Chihuly inspired recycled group project. This turned out beautifully. Especially in the sunlight and golden evening light. So proud of these students for their dedication and hard work on this project. The end result is wonderful.
A few wintry art drawings from my K-2 artists. Jack Frost Picasso faces on water colored paper covered with saran wrap (while the paint dried) to give it that ice effect. They’re a whole “Breath of Winter” mood. Love these so much!
I always love this lesson. Warm/cool colors, K-3.
