This weekend’s Introduction to Handgun Ladies Only Course was an absolute blast! I had so much fun with this group of gals. All theses students were super new with handguns but were the type of students we like to see. They asked tons of questions and were attentive to the details.

I don’t know that there is a better basics course available based on how much information we present to the students. At the end of each class I ask them what they enjoyed the most and what they’re going to take away from this class. They always tell me the live fire portion, but this class reflected to me how much more confident they felt behind a pistol as well as the importance of grip.

A nice overcast day for our South Dakota Enhanced Concealed Carry Permit Course! We’re working through our Single Action and Double Action Revolvers so everyone gets the experience of loading, firing, and unloading them.

There’s multiple reason to learn revolvers, and get some experience with them. Come sign up for our June 2nd or 22nd course to learn those reasons!

We're looking forward to a busy time this summer between team training, matches, private lessons and our scheduled courses. Stay tuned to the page as we're going to be traveling a bit more this summer with a weekend of courses in Wilmot at the American Legion. More exciting news to be coming down the pipeline at a later time.

Shooting Sunshirts are still available and we continue to take orders for them. T-Shirts are going to be ready mid summer, with our minimalist logo on the front and our newest slogan on the back.

We've had a great spring so far and we can't wait to keep training with everyone. There's not a better time to get in a class to assure you high quality fi****ms training. After last years Introduction to Handgun - Ladies Only Specials and our Red Dot Sight Course we're bringing them back!

If you've had the pleasure of being in a class this year as a new student or retuning student then you'll see things are only growing and you'll walk away with more information and seeing your hard skills increase.

Travis and I celebrated Mothers Day with a fine group of shooters for our Introduction to Handgun Course.

We deep dive into the Fundamentals of Marksmanship for the students providing a demonstration of each of them and allowing them to shoot a 100 round course of fire. This group was extremely fun and we challenged them with different target sizes and distances allowing them to become a more aware shooter.

We appreciate you guys coming and spending the day with us.

Weekend Training ✅

It was a busy weekend with a full South Dakota Enhanced Concealed Carry Course on Saturday and a Defensive Pistol Course on Sunday.

Saturdays class had a pretty solid group of shooters in the course along with some mixed ideas during our scenario based training. It was good seeing how people would react under duress compared to the person sitting next to them.

Sundays class had a small but mighty group that completed Defensive Pistol. We covered some new topics that have been added to the course since it was first designed. You’ll see I hung some targets to use as a white board so they can take pictures of the information we covered during course including mindset, manipulation skills, and marksmanship.

“Weekends are for training and wind” - Sundays Class…or something like that anyways.

Thankfully the weather was much better than the previous weekend to allow this group of students to really shine during our range portion with 2 students scoring a 46/50.

Moving into our classroom portion really allowed this group to have a variety opinions and good open discussion involving situational awareness, use of force, and scenario based training. This group of students came beyond prepared to Sundays class with knowledge and talking points, with plenty of questions to be asked.

The schedule for April & May is live on the website! We’ve had a lot of interest over the winter months and so I expect those courses to fill up very quickly. I’m super excited to get back in the range with all of you returning students and future students.

As a heads up our May schedule is very limited as we have several team training events, and a major match on the schedule. A reminder to our past October students you will need to book your Defensive Pistol Course by June 1 for the discount.

We can’t wait to see you guys at the Watertown Gun Show on March 16th & 17th where you can sign up for a chance to win a free spot in either a Introduction to Handgun or Defensive Pistol Course. You also will be able to register right at our booth for our upcoming courses.

Also I understand that people have been asking for some ORT merchandise. We will have some T-shirt’s, hats, and stickers available at our classes or you can send a email/DM. We do have a special item that will be for sale shortly and we’re just waiting on the proofs to be delivered and we’ll be doing preorders on that item.

Good Afternoon Shooters. The page has been fairly quiet since classes have stopped for the year. I just wanted to say a few things and let you know what we’re planning for next year once the schedule is done in February.

First thing I have to say is THANK YOU! Everyone that came out this year for our courses you guys are amazing. I can’t you tell you how thankful I am for every single one of you that came for our Introduction to Handgun or MP1/MARC1 and everything in between. All of you have allowed me to continue to live out my dream and passion.

My team, Brennan, Travis, Levi, Matt, Logan. You guys worked so ridiculously hard this year. I’d put my team against anyone else’s out there based on their work ethic, experience, and drive. Understand that these guys work for free including myself, everything is turned into the business. Sure it covers our travel, training sessions, courses, gear, and donations.

Honestly I could talk about all these guys and what value they each individually bring to our team. If you haven’t met the new guys this year just wait we’ll have their bios up on the website soon enough.

Speaking of website, as a reminder it is live. It has been an absolute great tool this year and it allowed a lot of you guys to find us. Full course descriptions are on the website allowing us to be completely transparent on what you’ll be learning in class.

We had a group of students that were extremely eager to do some learning and brave the cooler temperatures. Our South Dakota Enhanced Concealed Carry Permit course we hosted on Sunday was full of students that came from a lot of different backgrounds and even a few students were renewals.

It’s cool to see people bring in their own personal stories and experiences when we get into our classroom portion. We took more questions than we normally do in our classroom portion which was very awesome to see.

Congratulations goes to Mark for our TopShot award that we present based of their shooting of our test on the range.

Saturday was a great shooting weather day for some hands on training with our Introduction to Handgun Course. This class is perfect for anyone wanting to learn how to be a safe and responsible fi****ms owner being that we cover so much information in this all range time course, we give out field notebooks so you can take notes of the range.

At the end of this course talk about maintenance and cleaning make sure you know how to do it safely. We also throw in a bonus of allowing any of our rental guns to be shot before you go out and purchase one giving you guys more information to think about with your recent or soon to be purchase.

Thank you to this awesome group we had on Saturday and we look forward to seeing you guys on the range.

Saturday we hosted our first Red Dot Sight (RDS) class being taught by our Adjunct Instructor Matt Warren. With a higher round count class it was extremely fun time and everyone learned a lot. The students learned about mechanical offset, zeroing techniques, dot occlusion, and dot failures. Once we achieved the course completion a few of the students stayed after and worked on additional techniques.

I’d strongly suggest this class to anyone new or experienced with red dots on handguns. Learning to have a solid foundation in fundamentals with this newer technology in fi****ms has drastically changed the shooting community.

We’re looking forward to offering this course twice next years so the seating will be limited. If you’re interested in this course reach out to us and we’ll get you on the list for next year.
