We have all been affected by the pandemic and many of us have been forced to ruin our credit because with the massive job lost due to closures, if we pay our debts we can’t eat.
If your getting calls from debt collectors whether it be the creditor or the collection agencies here are 3 tips on what to do in order to:

1. Stop harassing calls
2. Buy time to attend to your debts at a later date
3. Remove the collection or negative account from your report all together

1. Here’s how to stop the calls. When they call and you answer do not say your name or give any personal information over the phone. Rather say this:
“I do not discuss my personal financial affairs over the telephone with someone I do not know and I request that any further communication is done in writing." Then immediately hang up the phone.
2. Buy time by asking them as stated in 1 that they cease making any phone calls and write a letter to the person they are trying to contact. Here your not admitting nor are you denying you are the person that owes the debt but rather asking them to speak in writing. They will send out a letter to you which should take a few days or weeks. You will them then counter with a letter of validation which is basically asking them to show you what information they have on the debt. This will buy you an additional 30 days on average.
3. If the debt isn’t yours (as there are many times credit files get mixed up and you have someone else’s debt on your report) then proceed by proving it isn’t your debt or by asking them to send you valid information showing they own the debt and have the right to collect in the first place. (There have been many times where a factitious company is scamming a consumer by saying they have a debt that isn’t true and the consumer unknowingly pays that debt. If they can not prove it they must remove it.
Credit Repair is the art of continuously putting the burden of proof on the companies collecting that debt.
