WELCOME TO MY PAGE!

The Skinny:

Like most curious children exploring makeup, my career started by peering into the crack of my Mom’s bathroom door. I remember being fascinated as I watched her gracefully apply wine colored lipstick, pucker, smack three times, and dab the excess pigment onto her cheeks for “a little extra warmth”. My fascination didn’t come from thinking she was more beautiful after she applied it, (I already thought my Mom was the most beautiful woman in the world), but more so from the way she could choose to transform her look in a matter of minutes.
Before the time of social media, I was blessed to adopt a sense of intrinsic self-worth without makeup, by observing my role models (who were all makeup minimalists), while building a foundation that extended beyond my outward appearance. This afforded me the luxury of exploring my creativity without the added pressure of looking ‘perfect’ or fitting a mold.
Of all the creative outlets I explored, school spirit days were my favorite. My friends would anxiously await my arrival, just to see what I could come up with. Whether it was tin foil dreadlocks, turquoise stiletto’s, potted plants taped to my head, or a make-shift Halloween costume, I lived to debut my new masterpieces. At 7:15 am, I watched the bus doors slam open. Making an elegant departure, I would glide, aloofly, past a line of teachers blatantly rolling their eyeballs, and arrive at the entrance of the school lunch room, where my friends awaited my grandiose appearance.
Years later, when I started experimenting with actual makeup, I took the same approach. I made it a goal to never have the same makeup look or outfit combination twice. I liked the mystery and intrigue of being whoever I wanted to be. My friends liked it too, and eventually asked me to start doing their makeup, and creating their looks. I loved it! I was creating hundreds of looks and thousands of ideas. However, I noticed that some of my friends started relying on the makeup to feel beautiful, instead of using it as a creative supplement.
When I decided to launch ille Makeup Artistry, I wanted to ensure my brand was built on a foundation of intrinsic beauty before anything else. I believe makeup wasn't created to mask our natural qualities, but instead to explore ourselves in a creative, expressive outlet. I pride myself on perfectionism, professionalism, meticulous dexterity, and creativity. However, I maintain that what sets me apart, is upholding down-to-earth, grass-root efforts, in a fast-paced world that aspires to be aesthetically pleasing. Each face tells it's own special story. My passion lies in helping you tell that story, by expressing intrinsic beauty through an extrinsic canvas.
